Has there been any sign of exists for Bastien, Egan-Riley and Churlinov? Wouldn't be surprised to see them sent off on loan or perm in Churlinov and Bastien's cases
Bastien looks certain to be off if we take his involvement in pre season in to account, sad I thought he would be useful but it hasn’t worked out sadly.
Egan Riley got an ACL by all accounts towards the end of his loan last season so I would imagine he won’t be off anywhere until at least the Jan window.
Same with Chutlinov suspect we are stuck with him till Jan as he is still recovering from the disease he caught whilst away on international duty.

I think Kompany and Pace are very much looking high up the table. Got a hunch that Pace thinks European football is achievable sooner rather than later and they're throwing a bit at it while we have the momentum of last season. Like I say, just a vague theory but some some things have been said in interviews which makes me think a relegation fight has barely even been considered.
Agree……. however, I’m sure the management team wound be delighted to simply remain in the division come May of 2024 despite their welcome ambitions for more. Let’s not kid ourselves; we are a newly promoted side in a league full of clubs far more wealthier than us and with players who have proven themselves at this level. We look like we are going to be a young and talented bunch, but this guarantees nothing over the course of our first season back in the prem. Personally, I think we will be okay this season, but I don’t see any reason to suggest we will somehow challenge for Europe this year, although I am more than happy to be proven wrong!

I have no wish to make a prediction as to final position in the table and I will also take a 17th place finish if that is where we finish, as I 'll always take a positive from a situation, but I'm hoping and expecting a higher finish than that. As Vegas says there are a lot of average sides, seemingly, so if we aim to finish top of the 'average teams' we won't be that far from a European qualifying position. Keep looking up guys.

Oddschecker (covering most bookies sites) had us down a few weeks ago as 4th favourites for relegation above Luton, Sheff U and Bournemouth
Now we are considered to finish close 14th with the likes of Forest, Everton, Wolves and Fulham in the mix
https://www.oddschecker.com/football/en ... relegation
I will gladly take 17th

Mike Mcgrath with a new link, i'd take him all day long
I really hope I’m wrong, but I see 0.00001% chance of this. Everton fans would absolutely lose it if we pulled it off though, they’ve been hoping they’ll get him all summer

Haven't many of you watched him play?
He was one of the key players when SU were "running away with the league". He is a quality player. I am very happy with this deal, if we get him. He reminds me a little of Cork but with more goals in him. He's not really a defender, as such. but can put his foot in in the middle of the park.
This would be an excellent signing for us. I am full steam ahead on it and, even though he is a different sort of player, I'm more excited about Berge than I am about Ramsay.
Usual disclaimers, etc.
I saw Sheff Utd a few times on TV and four players stood out - Berge wasn't one of them. They were Ndiaye, Ahmedhodzic (who scored as many goals as Berge) Bogle and McAtee. I could perhaps add Jebbison but he didn't play enough to properly judge. Berge did seem to liven up near the end of the season.
I do agree though that it may be that United's style of play in The Championship didn't suit Berge.

Yeah their system definitely doesn’t suit Berge - confident that VK would get the most out of him for sure.
Gnoto would be unbelievable he’s going to be a superstar.

I think he’s one of those players that can stand out massively in a game, but equally can go unnoticed, but those that watch him every week see exactly what he brings.
I bet it you asked a lot of Championship watchers from last season they’d say “Cullen wasn’t one of the Burnley players that stood out” but for us that see him every week he’s a colossus!

I can’t believe that there is even a remote chance of us signing gnonto. His price would surely be astronomical unless it was just a loan.

Berge is very highly rated by all the Blades in my office (and there’s plenty). They’re absolutely gutted at this and were the same about N’Diaye.
There’s a perception on this thread for some reason that Berge has been hit/miss for the last two seasons - season ticket holders at Bramall Lane will tell you very differently. He has been their best player outside of N’Diaye in this Championship period, with the one negative being that he’s had a few niggly injuries which have cost him a couple of months of each season.
(They’d drive Bogle out themselves as an aside!).

He seems to be marmite, I was speaking to a couple of Sheffield fans yesterday and their perception was he has ability but rarely delivers.
There’s clearly a player there, I think if he set the league alight he would be out of our pay range. So one for VK to develop

Believe it’s 2 from Berge, Ramsey and Hamer. Berge should be announced today/tomorrow. Ramsey the more likely out of the other two.
Got told we were in for a “prem midfielder” at the weekend. As soon as Berge’s name came out yesterday I checked and they confirmed it was him and was already fairly advanced.

Any mention of a left back? I’m sure we’re trying for one but there aren’t many names being mentioned in the press. Hartman? Maatsen?

Berge got 6 goals and 5 assists last season and had the second most successful dribbles of any central midfielder (after Hamer). So sounds like he had a decent season.

Strange are football fans when it comes to their own players, Norwood gets pelters from their fans but has been widely regarded as one of the best Championship CMs over the last 7-8 years, certainly when you look at stats. I think Berge will be one of those you realise how good he is when hes not playing

A possible outgoing on the cards shortly.
Not sure where we are in terms of getting someone in. Certainly not before the city game so we have a bit of time before the next game due to the postponement. Suspect we are holding out for Maatsen loan.

The odd one (pardon the pun) is Odobert, for me. I say odd in that it doesn't appear to be particularly widely reported by the sources we have learned to trust when it comes to Burnley, and yet Santi Auona (by all accounts seen as trustworthy) has run with it twice and said that it's essentially done pending a medical.
Not sure whether to trust it or not as a result.

Andy Jones in the Athletic did mention the interest after Santi first reported it. No updates yesterday though.
I also find Odobert an interesting one. 32 games in Ligue 1 last year, 7 goals 2 assists in all comps at the age of 17/18, pretty impressive. Surely one to be in and around the first team this season (if he signs).

It was 4 goals and 2 assists in the 32 league apps.
The other goals came in a youth league.

Not sure why we aren't in for Nuno Tavares on loan from Arsenal for left back.
He'd suit this system perfectly and still relatively young

I would trust the source. However, it's clear that Burnley are getting a few deals to an acceptable level with the selling club before deciding which players they want to go ahead and sign. I suppose, in theory, if the deal is ready to go then it should be a quick process once they have made that decision.

Spot on JT - when we had Sacha Tavolieri on the From The Bee Hole Podcast (George Boyd ep still available
) he said that was the way we liked to do business.
I get the impression that VK doesn’t mind the odd story ‘slipping out’ because it creates a smokescreen for other deals. I’d expect we’ll see a couple more deals like the Berge one happen before the window closes - they’ll come out of leftfield/the blue with little build up.

Bastian posted on instagram last night a pic of him smiling in training kit with caption
“smile through the storm for sunshine follows the rain”
I was told he’d had a few issues last month which I’m sure hasn’t helped things. Needs to move on I think.

I presume the possible outgoing might be Taylor...
Why Taylor? He'd be the last to go as he's our only recognised LB at present, unless we plan on using him in a deal for Gnonto.

Because even though he's our best recognised left back at present, he isn't playing....so you would assume that he isn't really in VK's plans. As many others on here have mentioned, Taylor is an excellent left back in a typical back 4 but he doesn't really suit the system that VK deploys. I'm not sure what his contract situ is but reckon he's probably now into his last 12 months? Therefore, now would be a good time to sell/deal him up. It may well be that he can only leave once a left back has come in first, though.

If Kompany is Burnley manager then Taylor isn't a left back.
Some interesting and exciting developments!

I agree. Be careful using the phrase 'smokescreen' on here though....
I used it a couple of pages back and got told I didn't understand the transfer strategy

The club will have little control of any stories getting out anyway. If an agent wants to spread interest in a player, news will get out regardless.
