I’m not sure about Hamer. Older and much smaller than Ramsey. I think Ramsey will suit us better longer term.

Hamer has certainly impressed me more out of the 3 in the flesh, but Vinny knows what's needed.

Football is about opinions and its easy to get taken in my media hype and commentators nonsense
I would never critise posts of others no matter how wrong they are.I have got slated for not following chat re attributes of players.100% effort is a minimum every match and if some don't agree fine.10 min cba players would never get in any Burnley team I choose

What you originally posted is nonsense though, and you have no evidence to back your statement up about Townsend. It is fine to say you don't want him or rate him, but to claim he has decided throughout his career that he can't be arsed in 80% of all games and that is why he has bailed from the club is grade A nonsense.

Hamer and Souza in exchange for Berge seems like good business for Sheff U if they get it done.

I’m happy with Berge but wouldn’t have been at all disappointed with those two instead.
Entirely agree. Hadn’t heard of Souza before news broke but he looked very good on YT. Always been a fan of Hamer. Would’ve loved to see him at Turf Moor.

As long as we get our team sorted, I'm not too concerned about anyone else.
I trust VK and AP. This team will finish mid table this season. Then kick on again next season.

sit back and enjoy the ride...

I said it yesterday, if/when Maatsan signs his new deal I think he’ll be heading back here for a season

Hamer is apparently 15m. Souza is costing 10m. How have we arrived at Sheff swapping Berge (12m) for those 2 at the same price?

Nobody has mentioned the same price. It’s the exchange of players being discussed.

Pete doesn't say that, he says they are swapping Berge for Hamer for £12m + £2m in add-ons. They have the money from Gyorkes too.

Great decision by Sheff Utd because we all know now what "before deciding his future next summer." means......................your leaving on a FREE !!!! just like us with Tarks either try and get 10-12 million for him the summer before his last year or keep him for the season and let him walk for free.

That sounds unlikely. If he’d decided to stay I can’t believe a side who are one of the favourites for relegation would leave one of their best players out of the squad.

Maguire and Ward Prowse to West Ham for £30m each. Just shows how crazy prices ate these days.

Can a club deliberately freeze a player out. I’m sure I have read somewhere that such behaviour is a breach of contract.

But it’s a great trick if you can pull it off, spending the money from another team’s player sale! I think it’s the way to go!

Not really sure I like the idea of developing a Chelsea player two years on the row unless there’s a buy clause for them.

We need to sort that position out. I’d have loved Maehle for example.

Heckingbottom on Berge:

Speaking to Talksport, Heckingbottom admitted he was “hugely disappointed” by Berge’s departure. “The timing of it, and the fact he's going,” he added. “In my mind I'd prepared for both [Berge and Ndiaye] a long time ago and drawn up plans and presented them to the club, saying this is what needs to happen.

“The problem is that when you leave it this long, everything's changed in terms of your targets so that's always been moving. The club have been told, they know who we want to bring in and the sooner we do it, the better.”

Asked if United could have done more to prevent vast swathes of their first-team squad approaching the end of their deals at the same time, Heckingbottom replied: “I'm not going into that as I'll probably say something that gets me into trouble, but everyone knows the situation we're in, I wasn't privy to those conversations but we have got a lot of players in the last year of their contracts, we know that, and it becomes a problem.”

They would have to be careful that it wasn't a case of restraint of trade, although the case would take so long to reach court it would be a moot point, and as they are an asset, normally you'd just seek to arrange an exit asap

Wouldn't worry about that, we're essentially developing young players for other clubs anyway. All about having a good blend of experience, development and loans.

The business needs to make money off sales and from staying in/doing OK in this league so the odd loan of a player who we know will contribute to that is sound.

The only concern about midfield if Berge and Cullen are the mainstays might be that it lacks a switch of play. My understanding is that Berge is a give and go player not unlike Cullen, which at one level makes them a good compliment. But Cullen doesn't rake passes side to side to open up space and my understanding is that isn't Berge's strength either. Last season we relied on Maatsen from full back for that, and THB - neither of whom are in the squad currently. It was a miss at times last season, and also latterly whilst we were in the Premier League - it makes it easier for teams to hunt in packs if you can't quickly sweep the ball across the pitch to escape them.

I suspect Berge is overall a better fit than Hamer (we need the presence apart from anything else) but that is one area where I think Hamer would give us something we lack. Brownhill doesn’t really do it either so it as a shortcoming in our midfield. Perhaps it is in Ramsey's skill set.
I noticed in the friendlies that Roberts has played in that he was spending more time further forward and infield. Seemed a lot more involved in build-up play as a midfielder rather than a right back.. he looked very comfortable in that hybrid role.

Natural progression from last season you would think. But Roberts doesn't really have a switch on him either, and the absence of anyone with a real right-to-left switch was in my view one reason Zaroury found it harder to get into the game/find space after THB got injured. It is a gap in our otherwise very impressive midfield armoury in possession.

O’Shea has pinged a few lovely balls out to the left in pre season. Something to work with there I think.

Connor Roberts is given licence to roam forward when playing for Wales. Our problem in the recent friendly was not getting cover quickly into midfield.Sander Berge will be an excellent recruit here with his ball winning and distribution skills

Not seen it, but good to hear. If we can get Maatsen back, he provides that balance from the left channel - which would make the absence of a central midfielder with that skill set less material.

Why is Berge so highly rated if he doesn't have a much better range of passes than Cullen, or anyone else in our team for that matter?

From what I've read he's a really good push and run footballer, very comfortable receiving the ball under pressure and moving it on, and carrying it.

Often those players don't have the big raking "ping", and vice versa. For example Dean Marney was great at those longer range passes but less good at the tight stuff.

Of course Berge might prove to have these qualities aa well- just not the impression I have from watching bits and reading.

Don't we already have players like Bayer to run with the ball like that anyway?

With the prices quoted Ramsey and Hamer were similar …VK made the choice to sign Ramsey. Possibly a younger player with more potential…. Berge was second or third choice after the Lokonga deal fell through for whatever reason. We needed players we can’t wait forever for clubs or players to makeup their minds.

True, but he's very good at making fantastic runs upfield in very tight situations.

Watching YouTube highlights Berge seems to have a pretty good range of passing to me. Looks very good all round player who I’m very exited about.

Also what makes us think Cullen can’t play a good long pass? He strikes me as someone who definitely could - he’s a good technical player.

Heard he’s at the training ground with Berge today filming the announcement videos.

Lokonga deal definitely fallen through? Was looking forward to seeing him this season for us

Re:comments higher up about restraint of trade. If they pay him they don’t have to play him. They just say his head is in a bad his standards have slipped.

Just passing on what I’ve been told. Hope so as both would bolster the midfield.

I really hope you are right. Those two would transform our midfield.

A midfield three of Cullen, Lokonga and Berge guarantees consolidation for me - there, I said that.

That is ridiculously strong for the bottom half of this league.

It would be strong. Don't think it "guarantees" anything though. Leicester had Tielemans, Ndidi and Maddison in their midfield last season and went down!

My head is spinning with all these will we, won't we transfers.

I would love to see Berge, Lokonga, Ramsey, Gnonto, Daramy, Odobert, Hartman, Field, Tella, Maatsen etc. sign for us but we can't sign them all so it's just a case of being patient and hope whoever we sign works out.

Whatever happens it's definitely exciting times and the exact opposite of what we had before VK came along.
