I've been watching Brighton v Luton, it's 4-1, could have been double that. Luton are just a set-piece team at this level

I've seen a lot of that game and I just can't see them picking up many points at all.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 4:54 pmI've been watching Brighton v Luton, it's 4-1, could have been double that. Luton are just a set-piece team at this level

Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Everton booed off the pitch
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Don't think the Evertonians will put up with Dyche's brand of football for long.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
It's a bit disappointing that a few of our rivals have picked up points so far. Could probs do with Liverpool vs Chelsea being a draw now.

Out by bonfire night. Not even his fault, club's just a mess.

Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
In the Arsenal Forest game I thought bringing on Elanga and Awoniyi was very effective. I was mighty impresssed with Awoniyi last season - pacy, strong, an eye for goal. It seems he's had a recent injury so was only a sub. Elanga injected some strength and pace too leading to a quality goal.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Dyche doesn't have long.

Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Which is strange as they absolutely dominated the game just couldn’t put the onion in the bag
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
To be fair these are Everton fans we're talking about here.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 5:12 pmWhich is strange as they absolutely dominated the game just couldn’t put the onion in the bag
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
I'll take those results thank you very much. Last thing we wanted was any of Everton, Forest, Luton, Sheffield Utd getting off to a flyer, and let's hope Wolves get a defeat too.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Newcastle flying out the blocks here

Great game so far.
Again, you can see exactly what VK has been on about all preseason. PL sides are huge.

Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Absolutely. We'll be bigger than last season but last night it was noticeable just how many units City have. Neville said pre and post game that they were once not really associated with being good at set pieces but they have five or six players now who are giants. Same can be said of most if not all sides in the Prem.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Mings down with what looks like a potentially serious injury

I always remember the first game back to the Prem under SD when we played Chelsea and was amazed at how big their players were.Pickles wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 5:53 pmAbsolutely. Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
The new bloke for Newcastle, Tonali, looks like a good player. Whatever happens this season we are going to see some terrific footballers at the Turf.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Definitely. It's one of the biggest things you notice when you're in the ground, just now massive they are. Even a player like Luke Shaw who isn't thought of as being tall... 6ft.

Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
It blows away the fallacy that the Championship is more physical, it's not. You might get away with more fouls in the Championship but the PL is the land of the giants and 95% of the players are also technically good

Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
There's no way Shaw is 6ft. I mean, I take your word for it, but like, I still don't believe it. Probably because he's almost as round as he is tall it makes him look short.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
That's the enormous difference. In the Championship the big players don't tend to have as much skill as other players but in the Prem all the tall ones have an abundance of skill levels.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 6:10 pmIt blows away the fallacy that the Championship is more physical, it's not. Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
I haven't measured him personally but I probably would if he asked, as a favour. Wikipedia has him down as 6ft1. I knocked the inch off coz that felt mad!
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
I know he looks a bit of a porker at times, but with sports science I can't imagine he's not got an optimal body mass index. The club wouldn't allow it.
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Is that not denying a clear goalscoring opportunity and red card for Martinez?
Re: Today’s Footy (12/08)
Martinez should have had a red card - defo goal scoring opportunity if there is no goalie in the nets

Probably one of those very rare instances where someone can legitimately say I'm not fat, I'm just big-boned.
