German Friends have Burnley Experience!
German Friends have Burnley Experience!
My friends from Dusseldorf Roman and Sylvia (Sylvia is a Fortuna season ticket holder) attended the Villa match, with me. One at one end of the Longside Upper and the other at the other end. I am in the middle.
Pre match first visit (for me too) to Royal Dyche. Sylvia loved it. I thought the service was great, given the volume of people. All good. Toilets not to Roman's liking, so he visited The Turf, next door. All good he reported!
They liked Yorkshire Street and the atmosphere. Liked Turf Moor and appreciated Burnley is a real football town. Sylvia had a burger at the van by Royal Dyche, after the match.
Outcome: Thank you for the Burnley experience, which we enjoyed very much.
Well done Burnley and all the folks.

We have 29 lads coming over from Spain (including some Barcelona fans) for the Palace game. Hopefully they'll similarly enjoy the experience.

Re: German Friend have Burnley Experience!
They’re horrendous most are on match days though and the Turfs are just as bad tbf!
The worst I experienced this weekend were the Bees Knees in colne R&B, it smelt like rotting corpses.
I also left after 1 beer, I couldn't face a second visit to the bogs

Re: German Friends have Burnley Experience!
I hope she didn’t crack a fag out mid match I’ve been to a few games in Germany and went to fortuna. We stood in the terrace behind the goal and my god, literally everyone was smoking around us. I had a bit of a tickly cough at the time and it left me in bits. German football is great though, I’d encourage anyone who can try a few games to do so. My favourite stadium in Germany is Olympic Stadium (Hertha) but best game I’ve been to was at Bochum. Such a great day out.

I have seen quite a few Werder Bremen matches and can certainly agree about the smoking ! Generally the crowds are very up heat, lots of flag waving and at Werder they flash up the other scores almost as soon as they go in. Atmosphere seems to be mainly positive and if course you are allowed to drink too.

The comment was that at least one person had missed, throughout their session.

Re: German Friends have Burnley Experience!
We had this discussion at work the other day. A standing ticket costs €14 (here anyway) which includes the free use of public transport 2 hours before and after the game. You have the choice of standing or sitting, having a beer whilst watching and even smoking a fag (which I hate too). The away games are just as cheap, with the coaches full of beer/non alcoholic crates for consumption. The costs are very much fan orientated, possibly to the detriment of attracting high profile players with massive pay checks. They support whoever puts the shirt on. The match day experience in England requires a small bank loan and being told where to sit...I know which I prefer.

I've given up on Colne Blues. Queue for ages to get served, and then go outside and stand in an overcrowded street. This is what the Colne Blues experience is like for most of the attendees. I'm not knocking those who enjoy it. It's just not for me any more.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 8:49 pmThe worst I experienced this weekend were the Bees Knees in colne R&B, it smelt like rotting corpses.

That's why I generally go on Saturday these days. A bit quieter and no bother getting a pint/watching a band.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 4:43 pmI've given up on Colne Blues. Re: German Friends have Burnley Experience!
I can understand why your German friend thought the toilets were skanky. In Germany, the public park toilets put many of our pub/bar bogs to shame.
The last time I was in Munich, I popped along for a few beers in the Englischer Garten. The public toilets in the park put us (UK) to shame. You pay 50 cents or €1 and for that you get spotlessly clean toilets and handwashing basin, along with your own hand towel. They even had freshly cut flowers on a windowsill.

Shot in the dark, is the HB in your name related to Hansa Stadt Bremen ? I ask because HB is the car registration for Bremen.HB Claret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 9:23 pmI have seen quite a few Werder Bremen matches and can certainly agree about the smoking ! No I’m afraid not - I live in Herne Bay in Kent but have worked with a company based in Bremen since 1999 (hence the chance to attend matches there) !

Re: German Friends have Burnley Experience!
I always visit the Englischer Garten (when in Munich) for a walk round and a beer or two if the weather is ok. Here in the UK, on a sunny day it would be full of boozed up chavs and the park toilets would only be for the brave. Please don't get me on about dogdirt or litter. We are such a skanky country.
