I’d be delighted if we get Maatsen back today. We’ve missed him.

Maatsen said yesterday that he would make his decision today on whether he was signing another contract or not. Did I imagine that that they have another years option? If they haven't wouldn't he have to sign a years extension to go out on loan, the same as THB?RVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 1:58 pmChelsea now open to letting Maatsen leave today

I lived there for a while and even before those roads became speed-camera central you couldn't get into central/west end of London in thirty minutes... Well, maybe on the motorbike, if you went either really early or really late in the day?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think that was reported, not sure he directly commented on it.Commy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 2:01 pmMaatsen said yesterday that he would make his decision today on whether he was signing another contract or not. I also thought they had another year option. Who knows.

Our level is Premier league
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It's his pace that we need. He is excellent going forward and getting in goal scoring positions and he would cause problems with his pace, but he is fast enough to get back and do the dirty work like stopping teams with the pull backs .AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 2:00 pmHe can't defend, he's more of a winger, midfielder, look where Chelsea have played him, in the cup game he was cam

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
With Maatsen I was impressed late in the season how he started to anticipate danger, his progression was big from August to May.
That bodes well, but while he would be perfect for us and would play every week, I don’t think that would apply at West Ham, ok, in a minor European trophy so have more games but I can see Maatsen being a reserve, the curse of the utility player who can play in several positions.
So if I were him, I would choose us, but of course it will be the team paying the most.

He WAS a left back at our level, but we got promoted from the Championship to the EPL... Perhaps you missed that?

At times he struggled in the championship, the premier league is 100x better, if he comes so be it I'll back him but if he's the only left back we are bringing in I find it unbelievable there is no other LB available
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think you are right. Doesn’t strike me as a Moyes signing at all. His teams are always very physical / big.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 2:06 pmWith Maatsen I was impressed late in the season how he started to anticipate danger, his progression was big from August to May.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We had the best defence in the league last year, of which he was an integral part. Least shots conceded, most clean sheets. He is a left back, because he has played left back for most of his career. He is also the best left back we could possibly get. Was Roberto Carlos a left back? Cafu a right back? Alves? It depends what you want from a fullback as a manager.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 2:00 pmHe can't defend, he's more of a winger, midfielder, look where Chelsea have played him, in the cup game he was cam

I live near Bedford, and I can often get into "London" within half an hour from where Luton is. London is a big place remember (and I said nothing about getting into the west endAfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 2:03 pmI lived there for a while and even before those roads became speed-camera central you couldn't get into central/west end of London in thirty minutes... anyway, it's all academic about a player who it seems didn't want to come to us, and of course I was just being facetious with my original remark. If he ends up at Luton it will demonstrate what the player's (or his entourage) priorities are, wont it

It surely has to be Maatsen for us. We haven't even been linked with another left back, so surely they have been quietly confident of getting their man all along? Seems like it's just the games in terms of the contract between Maatsen and Chelsea?

Of all the bickering and irrelevant debate on this thread I'm nominating how near is Luton to London as top 5 material if not pushing for first place. Quite an achievement without Newcastle etc. joining in.

London Standard journo suggesting West Ham’s interest has cooled now Cresswell is unlikely to go, but Kompany’s comment about Marrakesh market yesterday (quote of the year imo) is bang on, none of us know what will happen in the coming hours, including Vinny and Ian.

I’ve done South of Bristol to Burnley in 2hrs to take my place for a league cup match against Darlo in the 80s. Not proud of it now but I was then.

averaging over 100mph - that's impressive, but doable before speed cameras. I've done a similar trip in the past (also proud at the time, but not now) Swindon to Gatwick in 59 minutes (early hours)Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 2:53 pmI’ve done South of Bristol to Burnley in 2hrs to take my place for a league cup match against Darlo in the 80s. Probably already been posted.. but only just seen on SSN that Harwood-Bellis gone to Southampton on loan for the season, with an obligation to buy for £20 million if they are promoted.
I would have liked to have seen him back here, I think THB alongside Beyer would have been decent at this level.

£31m has to be a joke.
He's good. I like him. I genuinely am glad that he might be returning but anything more than £15m is extortionate in this market. I think he will pay off in 3 or 4 years but he might never be worth more than £20m to anyone else.

Yes in fact Kompany gave him quite a few verbals in some games in the earlier part of the season and thus he improved!!!
