Everton seem to be ready to stuff Mr Dyche and his team. Iwobi and Maupay sold. None in.

With the loan market to the EFL still open it’ll get interesting who departs in the near future.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We’ve signed the Belgian Player of the Year.
Just let that sink in.
What a time to be a Claret.
Enjoy it.

They signed Beto who came on as a late sub in LC, scored the equaliser, hit the post and took MOM after changing the game.

An amazing window. 15 signings. I estimate 7 or 8 are ready for 1st team. Also managed to hold onto a number of existing players, too.
Bastien will be like a new signing. Got carried away, there.

Everton torn up Gbamin contract, a player they signed for £20+ million.
Announced after the window shut, I wonder if they were waiting to see if anybody would take him away from them?

Can Tresor play as a CAM as well as wide ? Which position has he played in mostly ?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Winger or CAM. Played wide a lot, but from the man himself says he also fancies himself as a No.10.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
What's interesting is how we won 10 in a row last season playing Barnes as an old fashioned No9 by trade disguised as a No.10. But now we've brought in proper specialised No.10's/false 9's in Zeki and Tresor to play the Barnes role in the team, while also having Foster on the pitch to run at defences. I see it like Foster replacing Tella's role in the team in running at goal, Zeki and Tresor playing Barnes' role coming deep to receive the ball. There's a hell of a lot of fluidity in this system and I don't know if it'll pan out like that over the season, but it seems on paper like this is the way to go.

I have to admit. I was following this thread and started to believe the ITK whoppers that our dealings were done.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Shame about Maatsen - my guess is he gave us the green light early doors, and whether though a change of heart or the deal changed, he didn’t want the move - but a really good window. Be intriguing to see what VK does now - it’s clear that Chaz can still ‘do a job’ but is that enough for VK? Maybe it should be against the top teams - bit more pragmatism? We shall soon see. Delighted to get Tresor, he looks an absolute baller. Also think Massengo may surprise a few - from what I’ve heard, he’s a real terrier in the CM, just what we need.

Could he be another seeing out his contract to see what offers next Summer brings him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not getting a LB is the only thing that stops this window from being probably one of the best we've ever had. I'm encouraged (read: giving myself hope) by the fact that last summer, which was probably one of our best ever transfer windows, while still considered very good at the close of the window, to a large degree now only looks like a GOAT transfer window because of what we went on to achieve, but casting our minds back to last September there were still worries about the GK department and the fact we only had Jay and Barnes up front and were worried where goals would come from. If we look at this window and the only serious worry is the LB position I think that's a sign this window has been a good un. So close to being perfect, but there we are; the struggles of being a small fish in a big pond remain.

The talent we have brought in this window is incredible. The work done by the scouting network and the people getting the deals over the line has been outstanding.
The board have clearly gone all in behind our manager.
Now in VK we trust to make the magic happen and get these lads firing.
I trust it's going to be a hell of a ride! Let's gooooo!

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I thought we would try to strengthen the CM area with a real enforcer type to protect the back-line and add a little steel and strength into a team that looks a bit lightweight. The interest in Lokanga and allegedly Phillips suggested that VK was also interested in adding to that area. Time will tell whether Massengo turns out to be that player.Spiral wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 12:00 amNot getting a LB is the only thing that stops this window from being probably one of the best we've ever had. I also felt that another centre-forward would have been useful - and the interest in Origi and Daka suggested VK was looking for such a player but we will have to hope that Foster's promising start to the season is a sign of real progress from him.
Both full-back areas needed addressing. Obviously the failure to sign a left-back is a major cock-up and something has gone badly wrong with the recruitment process there. But we will also have to hope that Roberts stays fit because there is no natural right-back alternative that looks PL quality (ie not Vitinho in that role). I suppose Al-Dakheel can fill in if needed but that's not ideal.
On the plus side - Amdouni could turn out to be a really exciting talent and we have endless options in the wide, attacking areas.
I guess only time will tell if the quality level brought in is good enough for the Premier League.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I’m not sure how we’re going to accommodate all these wide attacking players, but we shall see.

Not sure where this Phillips link has come from other than wishful thinking - he’ll be on a fortune at City, I doubt he was even considered. I think Massengo is the Lokonga alternative. Full backs needed strengthening but maybe Vinny needs to adapt somewhat now.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think O'Shea was brought in as a CB primarily but with the possibility of him playing RB if needed. He's played there quite a bit and is by all accounts perfectly comfortable at RB. Aside from being in the current unfortunate position of losing Ekdal and Beyer both at the same time, in terms of how the squad list looks we look well stocked with CB's, and the logic must have been that by bringing in O'Shea and Delcroix who have both played at fullback (O'Shea more that Delcroix as far as I'm aware) we can take a gamble on covering two positions with each of those players. I don't see RB as urgent, certainly not as urgent as LB, because any other RB would only be a backup to Roberts, i.e a replacement for Vitinho as Roberts' backup, or an outright improvement on Roberts, which might have got too pricey for a position that didn't need urgent work.
