Cricket field stand

Post by PaintYorkClaretnBlue » Sat Sep 02, 2023 7:56 pm

Half of you magnificent, half of you should be ashamed!

The stand was half empty with 25 minutes to go, you knock the rest of the ground for not creamy an atmosphere but you bugger off when we’re getting beat.

To the half that stayed, brilliant! The continuous “we are the longside” was just what was needed!!

I can understand people who leave to beat traffic but not half a stand with 25 minutes left!

I was at the City game, and was shocked the way the CFS emptied at 35 mins and then again at 80 mins.

We have a young team playing in the hardest league in the world. What a difference it would make to see a full ground clapping you off and singing proudly, even if you have been soundly beaten.

There were a few CFS posters getting defensive after the City and Villa games because of the poor atmosphere, but if you sit in the CFS, you have to accept that the rest of the ground, the players, and VK, are looking at you to create an atmosphere.

Fair play to the one's that stayed and got behind the team. Those that leave as soon as we're getting beat are probably the same one's who disappear for a pint/line after half an hour.

Well said.

I must admit I would have left around 85mins if I could get down the row but the CF was half full long before then.

Well done to the ones that stayed - might be my imagination but the singing was a little slower

I left after the 4th went in.

I’m 40 and I’ve probably only left about 4/5 games ever. This one was that bad.

Doesn’t reflect on anything except I had better things to do on a Saturday than watch us get torn apart due to our own tactics.

Like I said I’ve left a handful of times. Today was one of those times because it was that bad.

I used to absolutely rinse anyone who left early when I was younger so I get it. But today, my God, I was so glad to go back to a family BBQ after their 4th went in. I just didn’t understand the tactics from the first whistle and then we made it worse after half time

Every single stand I could see from the Upper longside was half empty by 5 nil.

But yeah, have a do at the CF lot who were superb.

I couldn’t see the JMU because I was in it but the cricket field was noticeably more empty than the longside with 25 minutes to go. The reason for my post was more the hypocrisy of the cricket field having a pop at other stands for the lack of atmosphere when they bugger off on a bad day.

I emphasise that I don’t mean all of the cricket field stand though, the ones who stayed were superb with their support.

You always look at the fans in adversity and today was one of those days. The CFS was magnificent chanting to the end but the most endearing moment for me was when Brownhill came over to take a corner at the BL end, when the game was well and truly up and he received an ovation. The BL's way of showing we think he along with a few other's I could mention should have started. That said, for those who left, who could blame them, it was as bad as it can get.

I stayed until the end to beat the crowd, but more had stayed than I thought.

People buy a ticket and are entitled to stay or leave. I only ever early once and that was at Hillsboro when we lost something like 7-2. I would have left after the fifth today. At that stage we could have conceded any number. Fortunately Spurs took their foot off the gas

One bloke in front of us went with his daughter with 25 minutes left, other than that I didn’t see too many although I sit relatively close to the front.

To be honest I thought most of the crowd stayed to the end,I’ve seen many a Premier League team fans leave well before the end when getting a beating.Remember the enemy loves it when the opposition starts falling out with one another ,3 games in and it’s chuffing started already ,to vastly misquote Kennedy ‘ Think what I can do for The Clarets, and not what the Clarets can do for me
‘get a grip some of you Snowflakes were in it for the long haul.

I stayed 'til the end cos my dad is one of the mentalists who moans about early leavers and I wouldn't dare even suggest leaving.

I think some on here need to realise it's not a moral virtue to watch your football team get thrashed. It's nice for you if you stayed and sang (although the singing from the CFS didn't carry across the pitch to the Jimmy Mac) but it's probably nicer to get home a bit earlier and enjoy your evening.

The original poster has it bang on. My first game in the Cricket Field for a number of years. Absolutely p*** poor support once things weren't going all our way. Mass exodus before any other part of the ground. I'd been looking forward to going in there but witnessed a long line of wet farts making their way out with half an hour to go.

That was at Turf Moor? Final game of the season iirc.. against an already relegated Wednesday.
One game I wish I'd left early, was the 0-0 draw against Luton under Cotterill.. they were rock bottom I think, and we were in the middle of a 17 ish game without a win.

You discover your character and desire when facing adversity.

Those who left early have shown their character. It's still a step above the ones who get on players' backs.

The sheer irony of the CFS singing when we were 1-5 down as opposing to seriously backing the team when the game was still live .

love the idea that somehow the cricket field end epitomise genuine support !
ANY supporter anywhere in the ground is beyond criticism. Some have been going on decades and sit everywhere for a myriad of reasons. I don't care whether they shout, remain ponderous throughout the entire game, or leave whenever they choose. They turned up, no more needs saying.

It’s not a moral virtue but what the hell does that say to the players when we only support them when things are going well?

The ones left in the CFS could be heard in the JMU and I applaud them for that.

It really is pathetic, we regularly have the debate about people leaving five minutes early etc and people have reasons for doing so. Today was ridiculous, basically they couldn’t handle losing and bottled giving the players their support. They would be the first ones to complain if the players downed tools like they did. Please don’t come back with the players did down tools because they certainly didn’t.

Every single stand I could see from the Upper longside was half empty by 5 nil.

But yeah, have a do at the CF lot who were superb.
If they left at 5-0, they must have arrived late as well. ;)

Ok, if you really need the quotes to understand

Please don’t come back with “the players did down tools!” because they certainly didn’t.

I presume that you were one of the wet wipes who cried because we were losing and left early?? :D

Already been said in this thread. I'd like to think it was a mistype and that he wasn't in the toilets sniffing some white stuff before kick off.
Which alot of people have claimed about CFS fans with genuine cause, even that they do it in their seats infront of other fans.

This always comes up about leaving early.

I left after the 5th. I've better things to do than watch that shite.
My pal from Australia was home and we were going out. The option of meeting him on time became more important than chasing a lost cause.
The point is, people literally have better things to do. Simply as that.

Exactly this. I left after the 4th to go back to a BBQ on one of the rare sunny days we’ve had.

We were terrible yesterday.
