Cards on the Table…

Post by Lord Beamish » Sat Oct 07, 2023 4:59 pm

I prefer Dyche’s approach to the Premier League than Kompany’s.

Kompany’s style edged in the Championship, but Dyche Ball was far more effective at this level.

Dyche had gone stale.

We have more points now after 8 games than we did in Dyche's last season.

We've not been brilliant this season but there's many more positives than under Dyche in that last season

100%

I don't particularly miss Dyche but I'm totally lost with whatever this season's weird experimental brand of football is supposed to be achieving. I thought after Tuesday we'd be well up for getting something from today. That seemed to go out the window when the team sheet came out.

I can’t remember us losing 5 home games in a row under Dyche in the Premier League. You may correct me if I’m wrong.

Could do with a mixture of both styles. Dyvhe style was horrendous for our attacking threat and Vinnys is the exact opposite, although much much more better to watch.

Is this really all that much better to watch? We’re conceding goals at home for fun. Once we concede a second, we just roll over.

I can't remember such a hard run of 5 consecutive fixtures either to start a season under him. Both Manchester clubs, Untied still have World class players, a rejuvenated Spurs, a top class Villa and Chelsea who've spent a billion quid.

Frustrating as it is, and I'm not making excuses but I'll judge where we are after our next 3 or 4 home games..

That’s fair enough, but Man Utd were there for the taking, and Villa were also given an easy ride by us.

We’re now under so much pressure to get something out of our next three. Another couple of points or three would’ve relived that.

Compared to the Toffees who have been playing the likes of Luton, Sheffield United, Wolves, Brentford, Bournemouth etc. Surely, tougher tests await them.

That “shite” kept us in the top flight for 6 years, with two top ten finishes and a trip in Europe.
It did go stale in the end, but believe me, getting smashed at home week after week will also pale very quickly.

I'd rather watch a Kompany team in League one than the last 2-3 years of Dyche. His achievements to keep us up were incredible but more than anything I want to be entertained. This season is a struggle as expected, last season was the most enjoyable in the 40 years I've watched us.

I loved what Dyche did. I loved that our owners were suupporteers from the area. I loved having british players from the north. I loved that SD "understood" the town. I loved that nobody could bully us. I loved that Tarks, Mee, Wood, Barnes etc would knock teams about.

That style had no future. Even prmotions under him were hard on the eye for much of them. We were struggling to recruit. There was a narrative against us. We couldn't sign cheap players any more because bigger clubs were in and offering more.

I accept we needed a new business model. A new blueprint. That involves youth with all the frustrations that it entails. We look naive and that infuriates me.

I'm with the programme, though. Our goal today was glorious. We will grow. We may end up easily safe. We may end up struggling all year like most SD teams. I'll keep behind it. I'll keep supporting it until it isn't breathing any more.

Dyche just lacked funding.

He’s a considerably better manager than VK. It’s light and day.

God's sake. Football fans are hilariously reactionary, revisionist and fickle. Sense of time and progress goes out the window in a heartbeat. One of the reasons managers aren't given enough time to ever see a project through.

Nope. Still would never want it back, even if we never played at this level again. Absolute bore fest (although this is nothing against SD - just I don’t want that era of football back, even if it means not playing in the PL again).

Dyche good at buying established players with absolutely no sell on value.
Kompany developing a team of young raw talent which is the only way we can exist long term at this level. We will get some spankings but we will also beat a lot of teams too.
Keep the faith

This team that a world class defender built can't defend simple has that

The players he's spent 100 million plus on is too small, weak and inexperienced and will be lucky to pick up 30 points

Very early days yet and we have played a lot of the top sides.
However we need to at least be a yo yo club from Championship to Premier League or if we go down and stay down in Championship for a few years funding will cease and the club will be in a mess

Dyche worked within a particularly tight budget and opted to go for a quality keeper/defence and keep things tight...defensive players are cheaper than attacking players.
Using wing backs and lop the ball over into the box with Austin, Ings and Vokes...bingo it's a hard fought ....1-0 win..
Trying to play pretty passing football in the PL we are going to get outdone by the more talented, fluid, expensively assembled top teams.

We need to get back to a settled team like last season.
If everyone fit I’d like to see Muric at keeper and then Ekdal and Beyer at centre half. We should have signed a younger version of Cork and bar Larson none of the wingers we’ve tried so far are much improvement on Benson and Zaroury.

There is no doubt we have a collection of young and talented players however, a mixture of naivety and inexperience is hurting us at this level! Knowing and playing the best 11 would be a start allowing them to understand each other. Just my thoughts.

Dyche is almost on the verge of being Hounded out of Everton after less than a year. The football under that man was utterly woeful.

The reason we are being battered is because we are trying to play and are a bit open. We just aren’t quite good enough against the better sides to pull it off, but i think we can beat enough of the bottom half teams with this style. We do need a good solid centre half, centre midfielder who’s comfortable on the ball.

We need to play Muric instead of Trafford aswell. Trafford is way too green for the PL. he’s a cracking shot stopper but that’s where it ends.

Re: Cards on the Table…

We literally (imo) pressed the self destruct button today and that's the most galling thing about it. The OG is extremely unfortunate and I can't apportion blame I don't feel, but the other three are utterly awful and down to us rather than Chelsea. However, I still prefer watching this team (I think?)
PS. Berge was immense on Tuesday, but absolutely dreadful today. Is he someone who shines against the "dross"/also rans, but can't compete with the big boys???

Looking at this evening's table we've played only two teams who are in the bottom half of the table and have earned four points from those
Chelsea were in the bottom half and still are

We are seriously lacking leaders in our side for the premier league. Norwich under Farke were the same and they struggled massively. We need a plan B.

We aren't good enough to stay up, I've seen nothing from the squad or management to convince me otherwise.
Spent big money on a load of bang average players.
Tactics are shocking, the so called easy on the eye style we play is utter dross I'd rather stick pins in my eyes.
