Re: Your lowest point as a Burnley fan
Tonight, after watching us succumb to another defeat against a team we would have comfortably beaten last season. Keeper badly at fault for their winning goal, dry bummed yet again by VAR. First it’s a goal, the Green line, then they continually look for a reason not to give a goal. The handball, not even reviewed by VAR. There’s an agenda for sure, and it hurts at the moment, to support “Little Old Burnley” No one likes us? For sure not in the Premier League they don’t. UTC
Re: Your lowest point as a Burnley fan
I really do think you are a very sad individual and I get your angst, I have called you out and humiliated you after your rather tedious anti Burnley posts, your awful recollection of facts , your somewhat bizarre football knowledge and desperation to be relevant. FYI I posted this;" Dreadful times in the old fourth prior to Mullen bringing us back to life, worst was 86-87 season you really had to be there to realise just how dire and desperate times were then. I think our generation sometimes get ridiculed for a cautious approach but wreckless spending and a dire board of directors coupled with horrendous managers got us into that mess."
not bad for somebody aged 6 in infants unless of course you believe in reincarnation.
If so were you a court jester ?

So why are they wanting Bournemouth to win over us?
Aren't they small too? Smaller than us?
Why is there an agenda against us?
I'm getting rather fed up of this whingeing boll0cks about some kind of conspiracy against us just cos we're Burnley. Bottom line is we're crap at the moment.
Utter drivel.

Nori is one of them who can’t hear a bad word said about anyone or anything to do with the club. It’s highly frustrating in that he’ll still defend people like Trafford when he’s so obviously pony but I don’t ever recall seeing any anti Burnley posts from him.

Re: Your lowest point as a Burnley fan
It has to be the loss away to Crewe.
I was devastated, distraught and lost. My uncle owned the "Gresty Road" chippy on the corner coming away from the ground. I can recall going in but I can't remember if I spoke to him, got any chips or ate anything. It was a horrible time.
The other low point was Stockport away in 88. I got caught up in the battle behind the goals and finished up with a badly split lip. It was only a couple of days after my son was born and it was the following day that the midwife patched me up and gave me a few words of wisdom about being responsible, now that I had a son

The lowest points for me have nothing to do with what's on the pitch - however frustrated and sometimes angry I feel about it - and there have been plenty of those that make the current situation seem nothing more than a disappointment - as has already be said we support our team through good and bad, but the following events have nothing to do with football other than the actions of a few have perhaps forever tarnished the reputation of the rest of us
For me - and in date order
The attack on Jimmy Mullen's wife
The manslaughter of a Nottingham Forest Fan in Burnley Town centre
The aeroplane over the Etihad

Losing 1-8 at West Brom in 67/8
73/4 Semi Final at Hillsborough
The Wimbledon FA Cup debacle
Every defeat to that lot down the M65
Watching us lose away games at Hartlepool & Torquay in the space of 4 days in 85/6
But worst of all Crewe away 86/7. Absolute despondency & a journey home made in almost total silence.
Losing a PL game at Bournemouth would be way down the list.

A few low points really, perhaps being beaten 8 - 0 at Tottenham or learning that Spurs had bought Ralph Coates.

Don’t think that’s true about the Forest fan’s killer. Here’s an article about the fan in question being sent back to prison and it states he was a member of our hooligan element, and he got pinched again for breaking his football banning order… outside Turf Moor.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:44 amWhat happened to Jimmy Mullen's wife - the truth not the myth

Both the LT and Mirror reference him as being a member of the SS and getting caught outside a the Turf at the first match after he got out in 2006. Might be a City ticket holder now, he’s about 40 now going off the reports, and he might be reformed character. Back in 2002 when the killing occurred I’m doubtful he was anything other than a Burnley hooligan, and even just saying he was mates with the younger lot is splitting hairs a bit in this instance.

Waddle season was one long low. On the back of what had been a successful and enjoyable period for the club from 89/90, I remember feeling we had lost our way were heading back towards the abyss.

Re: Your lowest point as a Burnley fan
Football wise the Waddle season without a doubt.
I’d started supporting us in division 4 but after the Orient season so every year felt like a steady climb back up the leagues, but that was the first time it felt like it was about to come undone. Even the season in D1 under Mullen felt like a part of the learning curve. Waddle was just abject and the feeling after the Oldham game was just dread. I thought we were down.

The Waddle season was just farcical and not winning a game under Cotterill for what felt like a lifetime wasn't much fun.
Personally though, our first season under Stan had some real low points. I remember thinking we were doomed in February / March after a dreadful run of displays. Just looking back at the results sends shivers down my spine. We were 15th going into February; six weeks later we were 21st after this run of results and it was looking more than a bit bleak. The three home defeats in a row without scoring were painful.
Burnley 1-2 Luton
Burnley 1-1 Reading
Wycombe 2-0 Burnley
Burnley 0-5 Gillingham
Burnley 0-6 Man City
Burnley 0-1 PNE
Wrexham 1-1 Burnley

Re: Your lowest point as a Burnley fan
I find it strange how all the newspaper reports at the time of the incident cite the offender as not just being a Burnley Fan, but a member of the youth bit of our hooligan firm. Not just the local press, but the national press quoting the prosecution’s courtroom arguments.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 1:30 pmThere wasn't an attack on Mullen's wife, there were some kids messing around with a lighter. Then again, in 2006 when he went back to prison for breaking his banning order by being outside Turf Moor, he’s described as a Burnley hooligan. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of him supporting City anywhere of record.
But really, what does that matter? Some lad lost his life from a senseless act of violence, and the smudge on the perception of our club remains. It happened amongst supporters of our club and Forest in a pub in our town centre and was done by someone who at the very least was closely associated to our young morons. Which isn’t great and not much of a reprieve for Burnley.

The 19-game run under Cotterill drove me closer to giving up regular matchgoing than anything else since my debut in 1986. A deconstruction of the idea of football as entertainment.
Before that the closest had been the two-season double-whammy of 1988/89 and 1989/90. Two consecutive 16th-place finishes in Division Four says it all.

Going in to the last chance Orient game realising the club could drop out of the league was huge.
Owen Coyle sneaking off and the subsequent poor effort to support Brian Laws (regardless of his ability) was another.
