Quiet January?

Post by NewClaret » Sat Nov 11, 2023 11:43 pm

Listening to Vincent’s interview after the match he said:

Everyone in this team has a reason to believe we can get over this hurdle, then go again in the summer, get stronger or get better, and have a really good go at this league”.

Maybe reading too much in to it but is that his way or saying it’ll be a quiet Jan and no more significant strengthening until then?

I’m not too fussed either way. We’ve invested a lot and if we’re spent up that’s fine, just didn’t sound like he was focused on January.

To me it tells us we have a manager who is sticking to his process and who completely believes that we’ll have enough! I suspect we’ll see some additions

I hope not or our chances of relegation have gone from 95% to 99.9%

I can't see any permanent singings coming in if we are still not picking up any points. A couple of loans maybe to give it a go, but I think realistically, unless things drastically change, we will need to be thinking ahead to the Championship.

After a £100m spend this summer, I can't see the board wanting to throw much more at it right now.

we need someone who is comfortably as good if not better than Berge to go alongside Berge....that's before we address the defence and striker lol

Looking at the fixture list I am sorry to say I doubt we will have a double figure points accumulation by January 1st (with over half the season gone by then)

I think it would be more of a question as who would want to come other than who we will be signing

We could be 8 points behind 17th place in two weeks if Bournemouth beat Sheff Utd and we lose to West Ham.
We could be miles away even by Christmas nobody of any real quality would then sign permanent in January

Looks like we’ve given up and are accepting relegation already. I think we’ll be cut adrift by then and I wouldn’t then be buying anyone.

At least we don’t have to worry about any of our players being poached!

It’s difficult to see who has actually increased in value. Maybe Koleosho.

Nixon saying Kompany wants cash to spend in Jan. Not seen the full article so unsure on details (if there are any).

He should try “Pay Day Loans”. they me able to help him. Alan’s deep pockets are now empty.

VK's project is as interesting as anything else going on in the Prem.
We back them no matter what.

Sounds a bit like he’s stating the obvious again.

Tbh I don’t think Kompany could really complain if we didn’t give him a load of cash under the somewhat precarious circumstances we’ve found ourselves in. There will have to be some financial discipline.

Spot on. A lot of fair weather fans around at the moment which I personally find more annoying than a group of young players losing to the established PL clubs.

He can’t complain if he gets nothing to spend. He needs to move players out before getting players in I would imagine. There have been some good buys this year but there’s about £40m been wasted so far.

Well the 'what' is, that the point in football is to win matches, not get turned over week in week out and how viable is the project after another relegation? That will put a serious dent in the finances after we've already blown all the promotion money

We currently have a squad of 39 players (inc Loans out)
We might make a bit of profit out of McNally and Twine if we sell in Jan, Wout would have to go for next to nothing (and he still has another year with us after this)
Cork,Taylor and Jay will be gone in the summer when their contracts expire, God forbid that JBG gets an extension - can't see any of these wanting to leave in Jan when they can go on "frees" in the summer
More than likely we will still have a squad of 30+ going into next season without new faces in Jan
Given the shambles of last summers recruitment I would think Pace will let things ride until the end of the season unless we can persuade some loanees to join short term

WE could go balls out, not buy players but use VK's friendship with Pep, and his Belgian contacts and go for the loan of Kevin Phillips and Tilemans. Neither are getting any game time. We could reduce our wage bill by getting a few players out on line and still paying SOME of the wages for the big earners ie Cork, Jay. Berkeley joined Luton recently so we should not doubt our ability to still attract players

However, more realistically our only hope is loans of lesser players, and as we need goals to stay up we need primarily a striker. There simply has to be a striker, whose more effective than Jay who wants to be in the PL shop window
