Sander Berg
Ahhh dear dear Sander
A tall elegant chap , rather athletic in his physique, does a lot of running whilst on the pitch .
Probably a good type all round .
Good manners lets the opposition players have ball before him as he doesn’t want to hurt any of the chaps from the other side by putting his foot in .
The epitome of the Corinthian spirit.

To me does a few good things when in the mood ...but talk of a top 6 player is way wide of the mark ...

Re: Sander Berg
Of all the players in our team, Sander Berge was one of those that i didn't expect to be dug out as a scapegoat after losing a game, given his performances compared to 95% of the other players who could have been picked.

I suspect this hate stems from the one obvious challenge he should have made but pulled out of whilst on a yellow card and being cautious.
Been our best player so far this season.

Re: Sander Berg
Not sure there is any criticism for his performance yesterday....in any event i did not watch it ..he may or may not be the best player this season but that probably is part of the reason why we are where we are ...
He is a bit like Paul Comstive ..admittedly at a higher level does some really nice things but not every week...
Probably has been best summer signing to make an immediate impact...but that is a low bar...
He has all the physical attributes but dies not make the best of them ...
He has improved as the season has gone on...
If he is interested next season he should be a good player in the championship next season

Re: Sander Berg
Firstly, it’s Sander Berge.
I think he’s been an absolute class above. He was our best player on the pitch yesterday, I thought, although imagine Trafford’s performance caught the eye for most.
He’s playing in a pretty weak 2 man midfield, often with not much in front of him by way of support and does it brilliantly.
His awareness and reading of the game is excellent, in my opinion. He retains the ball really well given he’s often receiving or giving it in tight spaces. Passing pretty imperious, don’t recall him missing any passes.
I actually feel quite sorry for him that he’s not playing with others of similar quality because I think if he were we wouldn’t be in this position.

We need him against Luton - can he get booked against Villa then miss Spurs in the Cup?

Re: Sander Berg
I thought when he stepped it up a gear in the second half, coincided with when we suddenly started to look more dangerous. Him and Odobert were making a big impact IMO.
Oh and ffs if the guy who shouts "Go on Sandra" everytime Berge picks up the ball, is reading this, stop mate, there is only you laughing at your joke....

Yellow cards I believe are competition specific
Booked against Villa will mean he misses Luton game I think

But - most importantly - is it pronounced "Berg", "Burger" or "Burj"?

I humbly apologise for an inadvertent typing error when mentioning Mr Berge’s name.
However the observations one made in my original missive are undoubtedly correct .

Re: Sander Berg
It's class when he appears to be ambling with the ball, then you look at the opposition midfielders sprinting, and getting further away from him. Deceptively quick.... but I still struggle to see a balanced side that gets him, Amdouni, 2 wingers and a striker in.

The commentary and pundits continue to think he's a burger, if they take a look at the spelling maybe they could get it right. It's spelt Berge.

Re: Sander Berg
It’s surprising with all these wonderful players we have that we find ourselves almost cut adrift at the bottom reaches of the prem with 9? home defeats . While SB scored a great goal at Fulham and certainly has his moments ,as a prem midfielder he appears distinctly average .

He’s settled in well particularly in recent matches. Getting a foot in these days just gets you a yellow card if not worse.

Berge has been very good indeed. Not quite scholes or iniesta, but neither is he Comstive.
One of the first names on the team sheet.

I think he’s probably the best central midfielder we’ve had in my lifetime. He’s above Defour and Cork for me.

Re: Sander Berg
I was extremely excited when I heard the news that Sheffield had accepted a bid from us.
I felt that was a tipping point in our prospects. Still may be.
I do think though that we have half a dozen equally talented players, albeit some of those are younger and haven’t yet figured out how to make the right choice. Trafford, Beyer, Odobert, Amdouni, Tresor, Foster. All equally talented. The key is whether they can all make the most of that talent.

Re: Sander Berg
If Amdouni can reach the same level of performances as Berge then we stand a chance of staying up. Only issue is that so far, if one performs the other doesn't at the moment.

I don't know your age, so you're maybe too young, but had you been watching Burnley in the late-'60s to '74, you'd have probably said something like this about Martin Dobson.Turftalkers mentor wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 8:18 amAhhh dear dear Sander

I think we'll have more chance of winning with only 1 winger, with a centre midfield of 3.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:04 pmI was extremely excited when I heard the news that Sheffield had accepted a bid from us.

Something like:-
Trafford
Roberts O'Shea Ekdal Taylor
Beyer
Berge Brownhill
Any of 7 Foster Amdouni.
We should have bought a new back 4 and not as many wingers.

Sander Berge is a very good player. Without him how many points would we now have?
How good would a Brownhill/Cullen midfield two be if he got injured?

I too had the privilege of watching Jimmy Mac.
I do thank you Sir , however for your valued comments
