Just look at the state of that defensive “line”.

What do these guys practice in the training ground? Laughable.

A good half from us, but so weak in defence again.

Although a good finish from Amdouni, he’s been a peripheral figure again. A very good half from Foster, who’s been a real handful.

Fair but we’ve also caused them lots of problems with our set up today. It’s a better pass from both Vitinho and Gudmundsson to release a player 1 v 1 and toe nail from Foster for the offside.

Think five yellows means he misses next league game. A straight red for anyone would mean they miss the spurs game I believe

Think they’ve largely been fine. Villa’s threat has been out wide and cut backs into our box. Vitinho has been decent recently but struggled today, Taylor has been even worse and left a country mile of space to play Villa on for their second. Very frustrating as going the other way we’ve been brilliant.

He let Watkins run right across him, unchallenged for first. He is very slow on the ball and he is struggling here.

Delacroix , not sure, but the whole back line is so wide open to those through balls.

Agree, but not just the line - the back four getting pulled all over the show too - positionally inept.

Agreed - the full backs have struggled and our midfield hasn’t been following runners back into the box.

Blaming O’Shea or Delcroix is just scapegoating at its worse for me.

Obviously this is a tough place to go - not anywhere near as bad as some are making out

Yes the positioning is awful as well.

How we expect to come away to these stadiums and get anything when the defensive coaching is this bad is beyond me.

Strange one this. I think Gudmundsson has been poor today, I'd change him for Tresor.

At the back I think we've seen both sides of Vitinho, started well but has made some bad decisions on the ball.

Delcroix looks like a rabbit in the headlights right now.

The defence as a unit has been poor for both goals, but we're having a much tougher time on the left as oppose to the right. The second goal Berge has the runner but let's him go, can't really fault O'Shea but some will try too. The big mistake is not getting the offside right, which both full backs looked culpable for.

I actually thought up until their second goal we'd started moving the ball about with a bit more confidence. There's somthing here for us if we can cut the errors out.

If we can score 3 in the second half we might get a point. At least it sounds like we're causing problems. Are Ekdal and AAD fit? I can't understand how Delcroix can be in front of those two.

Watch Delcroix on the second goal after the balls gone in behind him. He hasnt a clue. Any centre back worth his salt would have sprinted back and got into position around the front post area where he would have cut the cross out no problem.

And no its not because hes an easy target. I dont really have any opinion on Delcroix, not seen enough of him but that was rank bad. As was his right footed pass straight to a Villa player before it when he really obviously should have punted it. I thought we were fairly solid centrally until he came on

Delcroix (as yet) hasn’t done much wrong today but I agree in general. I haven’t seen anything from him to mark him out as anything other than a cheap fourth/fifth choice centre back from a poor league. Al-Dakhil really struggled early on, but who didn’t? Weird that others have been given so many chances to get used to the level but he’s been cast aside really.

Don’t want to single any player out, but positional play of Delcroix is worrying sometimes.
That being said, O Shea should have blocked the cross.

Not too far off, but margins still unfavourable to us

You want O’Shea running out to marshal Watkins? That’s on the fullbacks for a forward drifting wide - if a centre half pulls wide they leave a gaping hole in the middle like.

This isn’t a Dyche 4-4-2 where everyone is compact and we have people behind the ball man - defending in space is vastly different

Again - Delcroix a scapegoat, he’s positioned absolutely fine for the second goal.

Really not sure what some people watch sometimes

It's one thing knowing the threat and another stopping it. He's one of the best strikers in the league.

Everyone knew what Arjen Robben was going to do every time he got the ball, yet nobody could stop him doing it.

Is Luton a must win for us?
Absolutely - but it is for them too. A draw is useless really. I’m not sure that’s a big statement, it’s looked must win since about October. I think we’ll be fine against them.

Villa are good enough without us making it as easy we did for both goals. That said, we’ve been more than decent going forward and Foster has been a real danger, delay that run by a nanosecond and he’s on.

Play like that and I fancy us to get another. Problem is it’s impossible to have faith we won’t do something stupid at the back.
