Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
I once went on here to get some petrol in the morning before work, then returned at dinnertime to go to ASDA
They tried billing me saying I'd been in the carpark from 07:40 - 12:55
Of course I fought and won, but it's only because I had screenshots of my purchases and where I worked

Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
Had to bump this after what happened today. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I went to TKMax in Burnley and then to Home Bargains next door. After much trying on and walking around TKMax we spent £146 and followed this up with £75 next door. We didn't go anywhere else. The other day we got a parking fine for being there 2 hours and 12 minutes which struck me as extremely unfair under the circumstances. I took it to the manager at TKMax along with the receipts which showed clearly we'd been pretty good customers and she sorted it without hesitation despite the parking charge actually being issued by a separate private company it's now been voided. Excellent result and fair play to that lady tbf.

It often is when it's genuine but when your wife leaves her car on a supermarket carpark whilst she goes off with another bloke you have to have some sympathy with these parking companies.

You should treat your wife better perhaps she wouldn't go off with other blokes in supermarket car parks

What time does the store open?
If the car park is for customers only and the store doesn't open until 6 am then unfortunately they can claim you are not allowed to park on the car park when the store is closed (as technically you can't be a customer until after 6)
Depends what the signage around the car park says about 'terms & conditions' if parking.

i am genuinely scratching my head about this one and i'd honestly rather get a ccj or worse than pay.

That’ll get chalked off.
Needs going to the local press with stuff like this. People need to avoid companies who outsource to parking firms who do stuff like this.

Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
Hmm, does seem a bit strange as going off that you haven't parked outside the allowed hours.
These parking companies are very sneaky though - If you can, I'd pop back to the car park and just check the signage as the website info may be different to what's on the signage.
I got done £100 on TK Maxx car park last year when they quietly reduced the allowed parking time from 3 hours to 2 (it's now gone back up to 3 hours but I always double check the signage if I park there to make sure I don't get stung again)

Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
I also got done on that tk maxx carpark for going 5 minutes over 2 seperate times when theyd changed it to two hours. Tk maxx manager refused to help at all saying they could do anything about it and even their own staff have had issues with it so its interesting to hear that they had helped others in thr same situation. The parking company pestered my family for 3 years when i was living abroad. They were trying to charge me 500 quid by the end, eventually settling through a mediator at 250.
They then tried to charge me again a year after id paid saying i still owe them money. Utter disgrace of a company.

Surely entering a car park 5 minutes before a store opens is entirely reasonable (if you intend entering as soon as the doors open)?Vintage Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 2:22 pmWhat time does the store open?

(Notwithstanding the fact that the poster has now said that the car park is open from 5.a.m.)

Shop elsewhere but let them know why. I got fined £60 from a Morrisons but we used to spend £7,000+ there. So it’s there loss.

I've been "" fined "" on 17 occasions now by various parking agencies and have always done exactly as advised by a barrister friend.
Enter into no communication verbal or written. Bin everything.
They won't take you to court as they wouldn't have a hope in hell of proving that you have welshed on a contract that you willingly and knowingly entered into.
16 went away eventually, and one bunch of glorified debt collectors from Truro are still wasting their time sending me pretend solicitors letters for my bin.

Tk maxx has MASSIVE signs saying No Match Day Parking and it's 2 hours maximum.Vintage Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 2:47 pmHmm, does seem a bit strange as going off that you haven't parked outside the allowed hours.

You'd struggle to spend over 2 hours in there
Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
I do all the shopping in our household and I'd be pulling my hair out if I was in Asda for over 2 hours!nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 9:25 amI fully understand the argument, and I recognise the issue that you raise.
There's no perfect solution. I wouldn't have thought that the ASDA car park would have been a popular option for football parking since it's a quite a long walk, but the issue is the College and I can see why a 2 hour limit would prevent people from using it for this purpose. I myself go to the College for just over 2 hours per week, and including walking time from ASDA my total stay would be about two hours and a half hours, so I can't park there.
I fully get it.
However, I think that my point stands that shoppers need to be careful, since it would be quite possible to legitimately stay on that site for over two hours if you were using all its facilities.
I do however think that there should be some signage at McDonalds that reminds customers that there car park is covered by the 2 hour scheme. It does seem a bit unfair that if you book a children's party there you can't park for the duration. It should be stressed that you have to go to ASDA to pay a fee if overstaying.
I'm not sure there's a solution though.

It's currently 3 hours maximum on TK Maxx car park not 2 but yes , I agree you'd normally struggle to spend even 2 hours shopping in TK Maxx and/or Home Bargains alone.

I agree, but in the post quoted i referred to "all" the facilities on site covered by the cameras, so that would include Poundland, the filling station and McDonald's.

How does this happen to anybody 17 times?? I assume you drive for a living?
Do you just ignore the screens where you can enter your reg?
How do you even know it's 17 times? I'd stop bothering to count after the first handful
Finally (this one's a proper question), when did the barrister give you that advice? We had one from Britannia Parking over Christmas after my wife parked in a pub car park for 15 minutes without entering her reg inside.
Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
Let’s hope it comes back positive. I hear what you say but if you get no joy I’d still ask to speak with someone in charge at Asda, if you’re fobbed off ask them for the email address of their complaints department and preferably for a name I should address it to. Also ask for the persons name you’re talking to at Asda and mention you’ll include in your email that you’ve spoken with them and they couldn’t help, It’s surprising what a few spoken words in a nice calmly manner can trigger. Good luck.

I thought I'd put this here rather than start another parking thread and cutter up the board
If this happens (see link) it will be a bit of a hammer blow for any shops that rely on people popping into the town centre for a single item.
Lancashire County Council is to ask district authority leaders whether – and where – they would like to see on-street pay and display fees introduced in their areas before it draws up any proposals to bring new parking charges to town centres.
The authority’s deputy leader, Alan Vincent, made the pledge after concerns were raised by some second-tier authorities and the Labour opposition group at County Hall over the resurrection of plans that were abandoned amid widespread discontent five years ago.
A meeting of the county council’s scrutiny management committee on Tuesday heard that consideration was being given to rolling out pay and display charging in as-yet-unspecified places where roadside parking is currently free.

Try contacting Asda head office on

No point in appealing to ParkingEye.
If you were a genuine customer of Asda they should be prepared to cancel it

Most parking companies take cases to court and the courts and the courts are full of parking cases these days
They also have 6 years to chase you up so if you change address during those 6 years be sure to let them know otherwise you are very likely to get a CCJ by default

I have a roll of black insulation tape in my glove box. I find it quite useful for altering my number plates on entry/exit to these car parks. As they are private property as such, the police cannot get involved ,civil law. Problem solved.

Not at all, these firms make their money by clearly stating that its private land, hence police can't get involved. It's like doing it on your own drive.
As long as you don't do it on public land, roads, there's nothing anyone can do legally.

You'd have to alter your reg plate while on a public road because the camera nabs you as soon as you enter the car park.

Depends on the positions of cameras, plus it takes seconds. Given that police have even given up on responding to 999 calls, I'll take my chances as a dangerous number plate alterer.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 10:21 pmYou'd have to alter your reg plate while on a public road because the camera nabs you as soon as you enter the car park.

Why? A quick trawl on the Internet will find it's a common practice, I fundamentally disagree with the DVLA selling my details to private parking companies who often use bully boy tactics, so I sleep very soundly at night when I've "scammed" them.

Firstly, when someone said you’re breaking the law - you responded by saying it's private land and the police can't get involved. Next, you tell us it's where the cameras are positioned, when challenged about driving in off a public road and altering your plate. Then after all this, you say that you do indeed break the law, but you take your chances. Basically, within a post or two, you contradicted yourself.

The very fact you’re altering your number plate is illegal, it’s irrelevant where you are. Same if you were on your mobile while driving or something. I mean, you probably will get away with it most times, but it’s still illegal.AmbleClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 10:16 pmNot at all, these firms make their money by clearly stating that its private land, hence police can't get involved. who really could be arsed, just park where youre supposed to, you'll have no problems then.
reminds me of those people with those dash cams who upload them to youtube showing a "near miss" when they've sped up to orchestrate it so they can honk their horn and mouth off about being a useless driver, completely avoidable and fabricated situations

Re: Parking Charge - Asda Burnley
so an update regarding those lovely people at parkingeye:
after my first appeal, rather than admit they were in the wrong they got back to me and asked for a receipt. like i'd be parked in asda carpark at 6 in the morning for 22 minutes for any other reason.
anyway, luckily i still had the receipt and sent them an image.
here was their grudging response:
no admission of guilt, certainly no apology and the allusion that i was actually in the wrong and they were actually giving me some useful advice.
absolute dregs.

I’d have to reply to that I’m afraid and I’d send a copy to Stuart Rose - Chairman at Asda. I’d send them a bill of costs for letters/ emails attendance in person adding that if it’s not paid within 7 days interest of 8% will be added plus a daily rate, plus Court Costs at the point of issue. I appreciate its Parking Eye that the disputes with but it’s surprising how large Company’s do not like bad publicity.
