Yes true, I was wrong there. Zaroury was better than Benson, many times Barnes was encouraging Zaroury when and where to press. Clear that he hasn't kicked on though. You're right about how Benson featured for us, he was a bit of a cheat code, but that was made possible in part by how he came on with twenty minutes to go and absolutely tore knackered defences apart. It's not quite as simple as that in the Prem.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:28 pmI actually thought zaroury was good off the ball last season but to be honest we very rarely didn’t dominate the ball, so benson either started and had loads of space and saw the ball or him came off the bench after tella had run left back ragged for 60 minutes and the opposition were just sitting in

The problem with trying to be clever is that it can make you look stupid.RVclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:22 pmYour reply to me on that post and even now is literally agreeing with me? I don’t get what you are saying. ‘Benson came on at 82 minutes and was ineffective’. Just cause others were too doesn’t mean my statement was incorrect, in fact you are saying it is correct. I didn’t mention anyone else as the comment made I replied to was about Benson.
You know full well that the context was that it would be very difficult for any player (let alone someone with as few minutes as Benson) would find it very difficult to be effective with coming on in a game with 10 minutes left for a team being totally dominated all over the pitch.
But nevertheless let’s park that - let’s concentrate on this training stuff you’ve come up with
Re: January transfer window rumours.
This idea that Benson was only good off the bench isn't strictly true. Three of his best displays were away at Sheff Utd away, Bournemouth away and Man Utd away all lf which he started.
Hes an excellent player but hes a modern day wide forward, not a winger, he wont track back to the nrcessary standard. If he was playing for City thats fine but for us we would have to sacrifice a striker and play a 433 so the rcm could cover him defensively, sort of like Henderson did for Salah or Fletcher for Ronaldo etc. Its doable but Kompany doesnt seem to keen on using that system which I suppose is fair enough and means game time for Benson will continue to be limited.
I don't think i disagree with him really. If we had a right hand side of Benson and Vitinho we would be an absolute mess defensively down that side.

We forget we were winning at half time in that game at Bramall Lane and they couldn’t handle Benson.Goliath wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:43 pmThis idea that Benson was only good off the bench isn't strictly true. Anyway, a shame our whole discussion is about us selling players and it doesn’t look like hardly any incomings despite the glaring need in a couple of positions.

It's difficult to reconcile the Benson who cops out of training and obviously isn't good enough with the Benson who signed the bumper contract extension in the summer.

Unless of course we’re to believe RVclaret joins Lowbankclaret on his regular visits to the training ground.

Try reconcile the summer and this season being two different time periods and you might work that one out.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:06 pmIt's difficult to reconcile the Benson who cops out of training and obviously isn't good enough with the Benson who signed the bumper contract extension in the summer.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
How does any Burnley fan not know why Benson hasn’t featured for us this season?
The same reason he didn’t play at all during pre season
He’s been injured for the entire season, he started his first game back against Aston Villa and I think he went off injured.
I repeat HE HAS BEEN INJURED THE ENTIRE PRESEASON AND SEASON, he’ll be miles off full sharpness and will take him a while to get up to speed.

Time to get back to rumours, LongsideClaret is usually good for accuracy so that sounds promising.

Not sure this adds up. In August he was worth the big new contract but 76 minutes of football later he's not good enough?
I am overlooking the thing you made up about training as I'm a kind-hearted and gentle soul.

This is exactly what I'd be doing in certain games/certain scenarios, sacrificing Amdouni for an extra midfielder.Goliath wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:43 pm

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I don't think its the worst idea, we finally have the profile of striker that can lead the line on his own to make it work. I'd wager that Bensons output would be more than Amdouni's as well. Its unlikely to be tried though so probably a waste of time even discussing it.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:49 pmThis is exactly what I'd be doing in certain games/certain scenarios, sacrificing Amdouni for an extra midfielder.

Ramsey looked like he was going to be that extra midfielder against United at home but then for some reason next game away to Newcastle decided to play Ramsey wide left and he had a shockerCoolClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:49 pmThis is exactly what I'd be doing in certain games/certain scenarios, sacrificing Amdouni for an extra midfielder.

A former Claret may be on the move. Blackburn want to sign Jimmy Dunne from QPR (BBC Gossip column)
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Because he’s no longer injured and needs game time, he’ll be a million miles off full fitness required for the PL.

None of them are in the premier league, which was the point being made. Coming off the bench for the last half hour for a championship team is just a little different from playing in the premier league.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 9:19 amBut the clubs interested feel he would be fit enough for them.?

Re: January transfer window rumours.
It's extremely disappointing that our recruitment has stalled .We have needed a combative cm striker and a back up lb all season .
Re: January transfer window rumours.
In the league below, where they can afford to carry a luxury like Benson whilst he builds up fitness. Or he’s proven to be very effective off the bench.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 9:19 amBut the clubs interested feel he would be fit enough for them.?

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Well, he's 24, 25 in July. Don't think he fits the category of a 'kid'. However, more importantly, I'm intrigued regarding your comment about his 'shortcomings'. It's exactly his 'shortcomings' that have cost us so many points this season. Passes that go astray,( especially in centre field), passes that put his teammates in trouble, lack of positional sense. There's enough there to work on. The bottom line, though, is he just isn't good enough for this league. Of course he's not the only one. He seems keen and very personable but he's holding down a position that requires an upgrade.spt_claret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 11:18 pmWouldn't move on Vitinho, think far too much is made of his shortcomings and people forget how young he is because our whole team are kids. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Clearly there's no doubt about he's ability imo, if he's physically fit enough to compete in the championship he's physically fit enough to compete in the Premier league, in other words he's either fit or not fit. If he's still carrying an injury then he's neither fit for the championship or the Premier league, it's as simple as that, as I say there's no doubting he's ability, yes of course there's always an issue in terms of a player being match fit or not, but the only way a player gets that is by playing games, and that goes for any player no matter what league their playing in, if a player has been injured he needs games to get match fit, players that have been injured don't all go to a lower league team to attain that fitness and as I've said there's no doubting benson's ability so it's quite simple, he should be getting game time if free of injury, to take the issue on a bit, gudmundson or larsen to name just two haven't shown any reason to keep playing them any more than giving Benson the chance to prove he can show he's ability in this league, but needs a run of games to do so, I'm baffled he's not being given that chance under the circumstances.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
The intensity of the PL and Championship are two different things especially when you’re having 80% of the ball in the Championship.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 11:05 amClearly there's no doubt about he's ability imo, if he's physically fit enough to compete in the championship he's physically fit enough to compete in the Premier league, in other words he's either fit or not fit. Also he hasn’t had any pre season, we’ve all heard several times from different players how important pre season is.
