Injured player rule
This is absolutely ridiculous.
I get that the referee should delay a player coming back on when it looks like time wasting. But if you’ve had to book the opposing player due to the seriousness of a foul, then let the medical staff on for treatment why do we need to wait a few minutes for the player to come back on? It’s a clear disadvantage.
example today when the referee spent a minute working out what had happened and then a minute to book the player before letting the physio on the pitch. Then we get punished for 2 minutes with only 10 men

Re: Injured player rule
The people to blame for this rule are the players who have made it necessary, mainly all of them. They've made it impossible for referees to use their discretion because they're all cheating, all of the time.
Blame the players here.
Blame the PFA.
Don't blame the referees.

Yeah it's a truly disgraceful rule. I think the player who commits the foul should have to leave the pitch until the opposition player is finished receiving treatment.

I will, purely on the basis of common sense.Rowls wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 11:19 pmThe people to blame for this rule are the players who have made it necessary, mainly all of them. They've made it impossible for referees to use their discretion because they're all cheating, all of the time.

Re: Injured player rule
You wait until one of the big six concede under these circumstances, it'll be in the bin by Saturday evening.
Remember the big fanfare about players leaving the pitch by the nearest point? Yep, almost never happens now, another fad that gets brushed away as soon as it's implemented.

Re: Injured player rule
You are of course relying on the utmost integrity of the players ( ) that they won't pretend to get treatment for five or ten minutes while the opponent is kept off the pitch. And I'm not altogether sure that footballers are 100% honest.
Either the players should be 100% trusted to be honest and can do what they want when they're injured, or else they need to be treated like cheats and the rules made so that cheats don't prosper. And as the vast majority of players are cheats, and are encouraged to be cheats both by their managers and by the PGMOL's orders to referees, then the rules should be made for cheats.
One thing that today's ref, at least, didn't do. When a player gets such a heavy tap on the shin pad that he goes down screaming in pain and he can't possibly get up for 30 seconds (while being certain that his shin pad doesn't need treatment), the ref doesn't stop his watch. I would make it a rule that any player who is injured and holds up play has to leave the pitch till the next break in play (none of this 30 second timer). Tough on the few genuinely injured players, but 90% of injuries are fake. If the player chooses to lie on the floor without treatment, fine, that's his option, but play should go on.

Re: Injured player rule
Exactly..and it was perfectly illustrated in the game today as well. Decordova Reid rolling round in agony..took an age to get up.....whinged and moaned then wandered off limping heavily...then he sets off on a sprint into the box as soon as the ball is near him. It was embarrassing and pathetic.Rowls wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 11:19 pmThe people to blame for this rule are the players who have made it necessary, mainly all of them. Re: Injured player rule
‘Head injuries’ can be the biggest con. Because of their potential serious nature refs stop play immediately. But of course in most cases the players are cheating. The’injured’ player must go off for a mandatory five minutes, that may stop the cheating, and if it is a genuine injury give the physios ample time to assess it
