Esteve
What a good player this lad is. Finally some leadership at the back. He was commanding that back line all afternoon. I hope it was just a precaution to take him off because we will need him.
Re: Esteve
He’s class. Proper defender. Can tell he’s got it. Unbelievable we’ve got him in the Championship.
Re: Esteve
Grabbed his calf as he went off by the looks of it which is not a good sign

Re: Esteve
Him and O Shea looked excellent together. Assignon too. Starting to see a back line we can start to build on.

Re: Esteve
I really liked all the back four today - complemented each other well.

For it to all get disassembled in in a few months..burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 5:04 pmHim and O Shea looked excellent together. Assignon too. Starting to see a back line we can start to build on.

Let's pray he's not injured.

Re: Esteve
And that right there's the problem. That's my worry for next season - if we keep 80-90% we've got a strong platform to expect an immediate bounceback. If not, it's another overhaul & rebuild and rabbits out of hats time.
But I agree re. Esteve, looks a quality find. Really surprised and impressed me.
Re: Esteve
Played well. Him and O’Shea look to have the makings of a decent partnership.
Re: Esteve
That back 4 is Premier League class. Its the first time we've been able to say that this season. Delcroix is also a very good defender but less comfortable in posesion than Taylor.
If we had started the season with this squad, id fancy our chances of staying up. Maybe we are seeing evidence of Kompanys comments about is getting promoted very early.
By this time next season he will have had time to build his own squad fully and get rid of the flops so we should have more balance. The problem is he has been relying on bringing loads of players in in both seasons for various reasons which werent really his fault so he was bound to have some flops. If hes ruthless in the summer and gets out the underperformers then we will end up with a well balanced squad with some really good quality and depth.

What I mean is, we will keep 80-90% and I’ll be very surprised if we don’t. Can’t see it being another full rebuild. Can make 60-70m off Odobert, Amdouni then all the fringe players.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 5:12 pmAnd that right there's the problem. Re: Esteve
Surprised you think Delcroix is less comfy in possession than Taylor. I actually think the opposite!

Re: Esteve
Part of the model has to account for relegation as greater possibility if you're buying for the future. You'd hope the contracts of these players reflect that. For most valuations to mature they'll need more than a season.

Re: Esteve
Aye fully agree. Younger players won’t be on as big a wage either. Bigger earners are out of contract. This team needs to mature and stick together. Fully believe in its potential.willsclarets wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 5:22 pmPart of the model has to account for relegation as greater possibility if you're buying for the future. Re: Esteve
Hope you're right, but I worry it'll be release clauses or taking marginal profits all round. Doesn't help that I'm looking at it thinking the players I'd want us to sell on are the ones more likely to stay, and the ones I'd hope to keep will probably move on.
I feel jaded this season. It's been hard, it's been whiplash, but I've also had a lot of stuff going on in my life outside of football that's made football not seem as important or interesting, which has probably added to my dissatisfaction. I'm more positive when I feel more invested. Objectively I know that ultimately, this is still a club in a much, much better position than when I started supporting Burnley, but I'm struggling to feel the spark at the minute, so that could be colouring my pessimism for next year.

Re: Esteve
It sums up our season. Can’t keep a settled side, can’t keep players fit
Re: Esteve
I think delcroix is ok in possession as a centre half but gets a nosebleed when he goes over the half way line. Taylor seems to have more purpose to his play going forwards imo
