A Fantastic Championship Manager
But not Premier League.
I've backed VK every week regardless, however, it's becoming more and more obvious that his lack of experience or (and) knowledge of this league is exposing his inability to coach a team at this level.
I dont know whether its the brief he was given In terms of youth or his total incompetence in buying the quality we needed for this league.
I have no doubt he'll do well next season but if we come back up, would he learn.....I'm not sure.
Did his last employer see what we're seeing in his 2nd season!
I'm not a VK out but I'm certainly going towards sitting on the fence.

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
It's the man management aspect that I have serious concerns about.
Tactics are one thing but keeping a unit together and believing is the main thing - I haven't seen any evidence of that.
To have just one player that played in a 101 point Champ winning team today is just insane. How can you expect to have a cohesive unit with that much turnover?
Just p1ssed away a season and for what?

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
he gets the first dozen games next season but we can't be having the lack of fight from the players. That's on VK AND the players, yes there are young lads in there but come on, at least try and close down and kick a few to let them know they are in a game. I'm not seeing any heart and that's the most disappointing thing about this team.
Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
Agree with Vegas. He needs to start next season. Daniel Farke was the same at Norwich and their fans wanted him out. They’d all have him back in a heartbeat now.

Not sure about that to be fair, I think it was more of a gradual thing as they were chasing shadows. The 5th goal though was horrific
Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
My point was his style of football but didn't make that clear. They battered everyone in the championship but lost their identity in the prem. Very similar to us in that sense.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 5:27 pmHe signed a few yeah - not all in one window replacing the team he had that romped the Champ though did he?
Pukki and Buendia were good as well!!

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
Been thinking about this. He may get us up next season but it’s a big ‘may’. He won’t be any better at managing at this level next time around imo. He’s not learning basic things from week to week now. Completely naive and out of his depth at this level

Exactly the same thoughts.
He smashed the championship again then we have a repeat of this season. What do you do? Sack him next time after a bad run? It would be a bit of a gamble to back him heavily in the transfer market again.

He's had all season, still hasn't got to grips with the job, pot him now, or at least look around for a replacement to take over at the end of the season, yes we won the league at a canter last year, but was that in spite of him? he made some strange decisions last season at times, and some even stranger ones recruitment wise.
Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
You title says it all a fantastic championship manager, which is where we will be next season. So why get rid

Dyche was a fantastic championship manager, failed in his first attempt at the epl (out of his depth because he hadn’t managed there before) and came back stronger and better prepared for his 2nd attempt.
There’s a high chance we’re watching history repeating.

If this squad was in the Championship last season they would have absolutely smashed it as well. The gap between playing Reading at home and Arsenal at home is unbelievable. It’s a different sport.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:13 pmHe smashed the championship with a much better team than we have now ….this is his team and he won’t win the championship with this team .. he can’t be thinking he gonna spend big next season after the disaster of signings he made

They'll be technically far better players than most in the championship but will they be putting enough effort in alongside it? That's been my biggest concern this season. Something seems badly wrong on that front

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
That Dyche team fought hard and showed spirit , even though it was a tough gig . This team have showed nothing and fold almost weakly and the squad is almost entirely assembled VK project . Half this board could have probably got that squad up last season , bursting with talent , speed and confidence.Holtyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:18 pmDyche was a fantastic championship manager, failed in his first attempt at the epl (out of his depth because he hadn’t managed there before) and came back stronger and better prepared for his 2nd attempt.

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
The effort has been there in general. I’d go with more an inexperienced team lacking confidence. Winning breeds confidence / builds a mentality, like we saw last season. I think we showed against Sheffield United what we could be like against Champ competition.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:29 pmThey'll be technically far better players than most in the championship but will they be putting enough effort in alongside it? Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
I agree he’s out of his depth this season. He’ll have learnt a hell of a lot. He’s only managed one season in English football in the championship prior to this. Why did people think he’d just walk the premier league.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:33 pmTbh, I do agree, but he's recruited really poorly since we walked the championship and it's not surprising people are saying he's out of his depth tbf.

Dyche failed in his first PL season and he clearly learned an awful lot and used it to good effect. The thing is, we were never this bad or this far off the standard. That's the worry.

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
Agree with your point about winning breeding confidence but i have to disagree with you regarding the levels of effort this season. I just don't think there has been anywhere near enough of it sadly. Whether that's down to a lack of leaders on the pitch and/or players with more experience i don't knowRVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:45 pmThe effort has been there in general. Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
Getting very bored with the false equivalence to Sean's first PL season.
I don't think Dyche failed in his first PL season at all. If anything he over achieved being a Matty Taylor penalty away from staying up.
He went up first time with a team with little budget and spent hardly anything and came very close to staying up - giving us a real platform and belief that next time we could do it and we did.
This is very different, not comparable at all for me.

His refusal to use or buy experience of the PL is what has sunk us. The kids need help but there’s not so much profit in selling on experienced pro’s so we don’t buy them.

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
He is very much a victim of his own success here. I venture to suggest not one fan thought when Dyche left we'd be promoted as champions the next season. The model was clear, buy young potential. Although he certainly took that to the extreme, we are very early in a cycle. To get rid of him now would make zero sense, financially or from a football perspective. Things are never as bad or as good as they seem, and despite what you think of Kompanys current ability at this level, it's impossible to judge the limits of his career at 37 years of age.
We've begun a project, it started great and it has stalled. But chucking it in the bin now would be suicide.

To add to those already in the squad is more than enough experience.

We are back where we were two years ago. Relegation with a squad that needs completely re assembling in the summer.
Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
Surely the project relies heavily on staying in the Premier League for more than one limp, lacklustre season? Sure, yo-yo, bounce back etc etc. Fair enough. But the whole model underpinning whatever specifically the project is depends hugely on the finances and exposure the Premier League provides.

The catylists in the team who made it the success it was, are either not with us, or out of favour, or injured. In order of importance (my opinion)- Tella, Benson, Beyer, Zarourry, Cullen,Maatsen,Roberts. Some of these were sensational. So what makes people think its a given to go straight back up in the same manner. We are not going to do it with the likes of Tresor, JBG, Brownhill. The latter two will be two years older. Yes we have Berge and the improved Foster, and hopefully the potential of Ramsey (fitness permitting), but we dont know what the relationship and belief between VK and the players is. I suspect no where near the level of 2022/23

Re: A Fantastic Championship Manager
It was an all new world when VK arrived with the media hanging on his every word as the future Pep ,Burnley’s media team was bringing out new videos every other week with the new guys being charmed with the thought of playing for Vinnie ,and the bandwagon started rolling and couldn’t be stopped ,when we go down the hype will have gone ,we won’t be the great unknown, and teams will outmuscle us on a regular basis ,if we get off to a good start we may steamroller the Championship again but if we don’t we could drop like a stone.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 9:36 pmThe catylists in the team who made it the success it was, are either not with us, or out of favour, or injured. Of course we're not back where we were. The project was to buy talented young assets that will mature in value, sell some on and turnover bits of the squad. The aim was to get promoted alongside that, which he did off the bat with the help of some excellent loan signings.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 8:52 pmWhat project?

In no way does our squad need reassembling, at all. There's an abundance of talent in that squad 18-24 years of age. 18-24! If anything it needs trimming and tweaking. The squad we had two years ago was more or less non existent, and what was left after inevitable sales was old. Imo he tried to do a little much too soon in terms of youth over nous and experience, but I still firmly believe in the approach and the players he has bought.
