Stoke
Stoke
What a strange club, to say they are owned by billionaires* No matter who they appoint, they're always crap these days and they're in the relegation zone now.
*obviously FFP makes that irrelevant. Must be so frustrating.

Re: Stoke
My understanding is that owners can spend as much as they like, as long as the spend the money rather than simply loan it to clubs.
Owners have been loaning clubs money, having a jolly and then pulling the plug on their little hobby, withdrawing funding and wanting their money back. Clubs have been going bust because of this. Loaning money to clubs is owners wanting to have their cake eat it. They want the billy-big-wallets kudos but they want their money back at the a moment's notice.
Owners are allowed to lose as much money as they want - as long as they actually spend the money rather than loan it. I believe that in order to "spend" the money they have to convert give it to the club by converting it shares, known as "secure funding". There may be other techniques of doing this, and I'm not 100% sure on my understanding. Perhaps somebody like ChesterPerry could enlighten us?

Have seen that the "secure funding" is up to £90 million over three seasons.Rowls wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 12:00 pmMy understanding is that owners can spend as much as they like, as long as the spend the money rather than simply loan it to clubs.

Re: Stoke
Its actually quite depressing whenever i see them at home on tv. Stadium half empty and completely silent.
Total contrast to the Pulis days. Another team that suffered when trying to change to a more progressive style. Im starting to think playing pretty football is nearly impossible these days in the Premier League unless you have a hell of a lot of money.
If you are too open you don't win games.

I didn't know that, but £30m a season (referring to your next post) isn't that much if wages are included.Rowls wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 12:00 pmMy understanding is that owners can spend as much as they like, as long as the spend the money rather than simply loan it to clubs.

Re: Stoke
Stoke had three consecutive top ten finishes in the PL after Pulis left. It’s not change of philosophy as such, more making the right decisions particularly in the transfer market. Something we patently haven’t done.

Re: Stoke
Stoke were free from profit and sustainability regulations last summer and as such signed 19 new players and generated optimism among supporters but it has been another poor season.
Technical Director Rick Astley was sacked last week from his role and it has been given to Jon Walters on a interim basis until further notice.

Re: Stoke
True that was Hughes wasnt it? They did jeep a good core from the Pulis days together, i think the further they got away from that era the more they fell. Players like shaqiri, Bojan, Arnautivic etc whilst good player in their own right really didnt have the same ethos.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 12:41 pmStoke had three consecutive top ten finishes in the PL after Pulis left. Burnley is a very similar case, we could see the value of having the good hard working characters like Cork, Barnes, Lowton etc and the further we get from the Dyche era the less we see the same basic elements of that team to fall back on.

I'd be interested to compare Arsenal's "offside" VAR goal against ours. Arguments for both decisions to be right or wrong but, 9 times out of ten, the big clubs get it because it is "expected" and so "accepted".

b. A sneaky under the radar joke

Odd about the stadium and crowds. The old ground used to be a real bear pit.Goliath wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 12:19 pmIts actually quite depressing whenever i see them at home on tv. Stadium half empty and completely silent.

Once saw a fan when hit on the head by a pie, pick it up, wave it in the air in thanks and take a bite; but it wasn’t just pastries that rained down. That concrete tunnel in was pretty intimidating from memory too. Liked going though, probably because I was young and stupid… happy days.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 10:49 pmdefinitely a place you needed eyes in the back of your head as an away fan !

Re: Stoke
When they were relegated from the Premier League in 2018 I thought they were such a well run club that they would bounce back very quickly. Six years on and they’ve never come close.

The owner Denise Coates is worth 7.8 billion USD but no chance of her spending her brass,to buy success.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:45 pmWhen they were relegated from the Premier League in 2018 I thought they were such a well run club that they would bounce back very quickly.
