Will it be the same next season
Will it be the same next season
Assuming we are relegated, and we are top of the Championship walking through teams as we did last season, will it feel the same to you?
Last season was full of hope excitement and I was drooling over the style of football on offer.VK could do no wrong. If it's repeated next season however,It just won't feel the same to me

I would have no issue with us having a repeat of the 2022/23 season.
It’d be fantastic all over again.

If we were to have a season like last season I will enjoy it just as much as any other excellent season.

Re: Will it be the same next season
Absolutely yes!
But we have to find that consistency again first. We need a smaller squad and more competition for places, around a brilliant Championship spine.
My main concern on the playing side, is my expectation. Two years ago, I was hopeful of a top ten finish. Now I feel like we should be targeting the top two spots and WE ALL KNOW that football doesn’t work like that. A couple of early losses/ draws in a long, long season, could get backs up very quickly.
We have to hit the ground running and that means not ripping everything up and starting a rebuild job with a load of players who need 120 training sessions (or whatever figure it was) to get used to the way we play.

I don’t doubt that I’ll enjoy it
My only concern is that if that was the case next season, then the following season would be the same as this

Re: Will it be the same next season
TBH last season was so enjoyable it was unreal, if we do go up again it might not be as exciting knowing the corrupt, cheating, cesspit of big club bias that is the Premier league.

Re: Will it be the same next season
It might lose a bit of lustre because the expectation will be higher than it was last year, but if we play similar football and get a similar points tally it'll be hard not to enjoy it.

Re: Will it be the same next season
Regardless of whether it's promotion, relegation or mid table, its going to feel less pointless.
The Premiership is soulless, all we are doing is playing to avoid the drop. I did have high hopes this season that we might be a middle of the table club but even that isn't much of an aspiration is it.
Next season we are back to having something to play for every week, twice a week. The only downside is that we might get promoted again.

Re: Will it be the same next season
I suspect there will be a lot of clubs carry painful memories of what we did to them last time and will be particularly focused on making life much more difficult for us next season. The game plan will need to evolve and the know-how about navigating the slog needs to be refreshed within the player group if the departures go along the lines we expect.gtclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:15 amAssuming we are relegated, and we are top of the Championship walking through teams as we did last season, will it feel the same to you?

Re: Will it be the same next season
The biggest concern for next season is impatience and apathy.
If we hit the ground running we could see a record points haul.
Still think we deserved around 10 more points in our championship season.
If VK is showing he is learning, and the squad fight for the badge, then it is all we ask for really.
Summer is key!

Re: Will it be the same next season
Promotion next season will be absolutely vital. Fail and we will be in grave danger of becoming a Bolton or a Blackburn ! Or even worse
Championship is a tough division. Ask Leeds Leicester and Blackburn
So yes promotion would be every bit as good as last season in fact it would probably be better

Re: Will it be the same next season
Give me this season any day of the week over some of the Championship campaigns prior to Coyle arriving.
The football was at times equally hard to watch as it has been this season but with a threadbare squad and an annual black hole to fill with player sales.
We have been spoilt for a long time and believe me if things do return to the standard before Premier League football, you'll have no problem waiting for the season ticket seat swaps after the early bird has finished.

Re: Will it be the same next season
I'll be chuffed to bits and just as excited if we have a repeat of our 2022–23 season. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't.
Sometimes I read posts on here, and it reminds me of an old mate of mine.
Years ago, I used to go fishing with a group of five friends and one of them would whinge about everything.
It was either too early in the morning, or too late in the day. Too hot, too cold, too windy or raining. He'd blame the water we were fishing on and say it was rubbish - even though the rest of us were catching or at least getting knocks/bites. We went to Ireland one summer, and he even moaned about the lakes being too easy to fish - said he was bored with catching fish nearly every cast. He was never happy, until it finally dawned on him that fishing really wasn't for him.

Re: Will it be the same next season
I think we need more English or British based players with experience of the leagues and culture to compete like we did . THB, , tella , Barnes, cork all had it, tella had been on loan before to in the league. I think a few of the newer signings will be shocked at the league and how it’s played at 100 mph and long ball.
Re: Will it be the same next season
Can see where the OP is coming from. A repeat of last season would obviously be great, but will probably be at the back of everyone's minds whats happened this year.
Expectation levels will be through the roof as well, plenty of people will be turning up just expecting to blow teams away.

Re: Will it be the same next season
A season like last year for me would be utopia. My concern however is how much has VK's pride been dented. What effect has this disastrous season had on his confidence and ability. Surely his ability to attract great prospects will have been reduced. And has he learned from this year. Will his stubborness continue. How does he re-motivate players shut out of the team ie Benson, Zarourry, Muric, Roberts
We all want another great year but for me many questions and factors making it that much harder.

And if VK is not showing that he is learning, Alan Pace will have potted him by Christmas.

Re: Will it be the same next season
Just worry where are the goals going to come from ? particularly if 1-2 flair players get sold in summer.
Re: Will it be the same next season
I just enjoy seeing Burnley win, no matter what league we are in, so any repeat of the last champ season will be fine by me, and each promotion we had to the prem has never felt any worse than the one before so far.
As for the team, yes we need a strong spine and a sprinkling of experience but I’m confident we will have that and there’s no doubt in my mind that VK will still be able to attract young hungry talented players as he clearly gives them a chance to play. So im sure the loan market will once again be a key area we delve into.

Re: Will it be the same next season
if you watch the JJ Watt stick to football show and listen to VK's pre match Brighton interview is pretty clear they are all aligned, it's pretty clear they know they screwed it this season and it's pretty clear they've been thinking about doing things differently going forward in terms of recruitment and style of play - as always, the proof will be on the pitch next season. There was clear acknowledgement that they thought they could replicate the Championship football in the PL and it hasn't worked (staggering they hadn't clocked it tbh)
