Tanks are so named, because they were deemed so secret during their initial development, the manufacturers employees were told they were " Tanks " to carry oil to the front line in the Desert during WW1 !!conyoviejo wrote:Fittingly for a city which started out as a fortress, Lincoln’s contribution to modern warfare was the invention of the tank. Built by William Foster & Co during World War One, the very first tanks were tested on the area now occupied by Tritton Road.

The James Hargreaves and Jimmy McIlroy Stands were both built by Linpave, a Lincolnshire construction Company. The Burnley board were impressed by the work they'd done at Sincel Bank, redeveloping parts of the ground at a very competitive price....

They owe me one that's a fact, the early 90s I think it was,I was around 7 I would say we got stuck in horrendous traffic going to sincil bank.By time we got there it was half time and I am sure we was 3-0 down.It never got any better and stays in my mind for all the wrong reasons! So I will be fist pumping every goal like its the winning final goal and remembering that day!

The A15 is the main road running directly north out of Lincoln along the line of the Roman Road Ermine Street. In 1956, the road had a giant chicane put in its otherwise straight route at RAF Scampton for the runway to be extended 10,000ft to accommodate the Vulcan (I think).

Lincoln has a massive Christmas market around the cathedral and the castle. Thousands attend over the four days. It is well worth a visit.

Re: Lincoln - Facts.
Went to that game on a hot, late July afternoon in 1972. Won it in the last couple of minutes with a goal from Frank Casper. It was a pre-season competition between teams from different leagues who,I think, had been top scorers the previous season. Hard to believe now but another fixture from that competition in 1972 was Halifax Town V Manchester United. And yes, the highlights were shown on television.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:Just seen a clip of this game on Facebook followed by a semi final defeat to Bristol Rovers! I was there and caught up in the trouble. I arranged an ambulance for one Claret who had taken a right old pasting. Suffice to say I don't like them very much.Siddo wrote:We played them away in the mid 70's , might have been a cup game.
