Stephen Ward

What an outstanding left back we have. For years we had poor ones and often the subject of criticism. Great defender, creative, committed and consistent.

I asked a Wolves fan on another forum about Ward,he said no he isn't good enough...how wrong could he have been, probably after Mee & Keane he's our most consistent player.

So any reason why he was subbed , he didn't look like he was injured or maybe I am wrong .

Think he just wanted to give Flanagan a run out... ;) he went Dow injured holding his left knee twice plus he was a doubt before the game.

I think he had a twist in the knee or the thigh so could not continue, hope he's not out for long.

He sat in the dug out in the second half still in his kit but with a big ice pack strapped to his knee. Obviously an injury but not sure how serious.

He really has been superb for us this season. It shows how influential he is when the worry kicked in for so many when he went off yesterday.

Best left back at Burnley since I've been watching ............... and I'm including Les Thompson in that ;)

Superb and steady defender - may I also add that Lowton has stepped up the mark tremendously

He was who got my vote at the recent Supporters' Club Player of the Season Awards.
We are actually getting a Republic of Ireland international player at the absolute peak of his powers. I reckon he's probably got at least two years(barring injury) at that level of performance. We should cherish that.

He was a doubt before the game and if it is the same leg/knee now injured that made him a doubt then I guess he will be out for a few weeks. Ice packs on knees don't sound like quick turn arounds.

Certainly my player of the season. His performances have been of the highest quality since he became a regular in the side in January 2016. A great Dyche signing.
In my opinion he is one of the most capable and dependable left backs I have seen play for Burnley, only out ranked by Elder and Newton.

since coming into the side following the defeat at Hull Boxing Day 2015 he's been magnificent - and many fans player of the season!

from BBC website:

Stephen Ward (against Palace) registered his first Premier League assist for Burnley, and his first in the competition since May 2012 for Wolves v Wigan :o

wonderful player...and so pleased he chose us over Brighton! :D

As the Lord says. He's tremendous, and has plenty of high quality service left in the tank. We do need to sign someone as back up, though.

I doubt we'll play a side with two better old fashioned dribbling wingers and Lowton & Ward/Flanagan controlled them perfectly.

I don't know if you were there yesterday or not but he went down twice in quick succession (on his own) and on the second occasion he was clutching his knee and frantically waving at the bench for attention. He went off almost immediately - he certainly did look like he was injured to me.

our entire back line is immense
A few tweaks here and there that we all know about and we can be a mid-table PL team no doubt

Agree about Ward and Lowton. The whole back five have been superb this season and they've had a lot of work to do.

I've always thought he was fantastically steady but my eyes opened when (Boro away game I think) he went on a run from the edge of our box and absolutely tore the arsehole out of their midfielder and fullback for pace. It was like watching Steve Kindon again. I think it was the one where Vokes fluffed it.

Ward is in Garth Crooks' team of the week, BBC website despite only playing 45 minutes. Crooks credits him for the great cross for Barnes goal. John Motson seemed to think we would be relegated prior to the Palace game.

Best left back I've seen play for Burnley.

And I've seen Lee Briscoe.

We have an excellent back five [plus Tarkowski when needed ]...the fact they play together so often now, is a major factor in their reliability...they are very well drilled /organised by Sean and his staff as most of the pundits recognise on Saturday evenings [MOTD].

He has had a great season. Defending - brilliant. Charging down the wing - brilliant. Crosses - mostly excellent. Heading at both ends, fantastic.

Great stuff Wardy.

Ward seems to have steadily improved since he stepped foot on the pitch. The early signs looked good but he's taken a while to get to the current standard he's at now. He's easily been one of the first names on the team sheet over the last few months.

I still think we will look for improvement in the full back areas, but he's certainly showed he can do it at Prem level.

One thing I love about ward is his positivity. As soon as he gets the ball he looks to charge forward as far as he can. His crossing's not bad either!

but will he be missed if not playing next few games, for me a big yes and obviously for a lot of others given the comments about JF coming on!

So if Mee is fit Saturday does he revert to LB and continue with Tark's or is JF the answer, who'd be a Football Manager with these decisions and scenarios given the 20,000 experts watching your every move and willing to voice before matches how daft your team selection is. Or will the Palace win make a few of them think first? Sorry just being silly with that rhetorical question, I know the answer :)

S Ward been one of the first names on the team sheet for me along with about 4 others, 6 players questionable given who and where we playing in any given game, he will be sorely missed if it's a bad one!

But the end result by June will not make a lot of difference.

Can only agree with the previous comments, he's been an absolute rock. All the back 4 plus Heaton have been superb and have improved massively over the last 18 months or so.
