Someone must have dusted off some Old almanacs of players we were once interested in.

280 PL appearances, averaging 30 appearances a season since 2008.

Maybe a tad old, but if it happens then so be it.

Is our away kit going to be green does anyone know?

It may be funny that we are linked with another Irishman but I think this would be a good signing...From what I saw of him last season he is still fit and still wins the ball and uses it well.
I wont be unhappy if we sign him for 2.5 million.

He could play the Jon Parkin role.

Don't think he's got the workrate to be a Dyche signing though.

Stoke play a three man central midfield.
Not sure he's operated in a 4-4-2 under Hughes.

Can't get even remotely excited by the prospect of signing Whelan. Surely he'd arrive as back up to Hendrick, Westwood and Defour (if he stays). I'd rather have O'Neill as 4th choice. We should be signing to improve the first 11, that's the only way you progress.

Although I was initially critical of the Walters transfer, I'm coming round to the idea of targetting experience, at least for another season.

We can't have another disastrous away campaign like last. In any 'normal' season, one away win gets you relegated. We simply can't rely on our home form to bail us out again.

Walters, and potentially Whelan, would give us the know how to go away and win, or at least scrap for a point when it's on offer.

I'm ok with this approach. I wouldn't say I'm thrilled, but if it gives us PL football for a third season, then fine.

Obviously a lot of these links are not necessarily true but there is an overwhelming sense of bringing in strength and experience. Makes me wander if Sean is over guarding against 2nd season syndrome and wants us to battle through this year to become an established side.

Some good players linked and some of these cheaper buys will hopefully mean we have one or two crackerjacks on the way.

Out of Cork, Whelan and McArthur I'd go McArthur then Cork then Whelan if we could only have one.

Don't like how Whelan was available to Villa for £1m but would cost us £2.5m. So much for our crack negotiating team.

Doesn't it work like that in football though? If there is not much interest in a player, a team would consider taking a smaller amount, but then if a team with seemingly more money comes along, they will smack an extra million on?

Maybe it's not, but I would imagine it works similar to that.

Didn't we take more from QPR than what Hull were to pay for Austin?

Villa weren't willing to pay the £1m. We would be.

If you're at a car boot and something's on sale for a tenner, and the bloke next to you is haggling saying he'll only pay a fiver, you go and offer that full tenner if you want it. You don't offer £25.

There was never any interest from Burnley.
Shame the usual snipers surface who clearly have no idea. But just love to find criticism.
The club is on an upward curve and enjoying an excellent period.
Try and understand that and appreciate there are further improvements in the pipeline.
