I'll not be lectured about racial tensions by a Frenchman, if they don't mind. What % of the vote did Le Pen get again?

What a bizarre article, I can't really say anything else about it other than that. Just weird. It is kind of funny though because I said in jest to my mate the other day that I'm surprised there hasn't been a column in the Guardian yet by a SJW noting the lack of black/non-British players in our team!

We should just black some of them up, I believe Griezmann is available for tips on the best way to do it...

Disgraceful article. Are we not people? The more we view people as a collective rather than as individuals, society will continue to grow apart.

It's not our fault that Watford coveted one of our players, that one of our promising young strikers isn't ready for first team action and one of our summer buys has had an injury.

Looks like they have taken the normal and tried to find fault and then decided we run some kind of British apartheid regime all due to Brexit!

Apart from that, it's positive!

Didn't L'Equipe collaborate with the Vichy government?

It was called L'Auto at the time but they seem to have been Nazi sympathizers.

Ah, " La Belle France "....the very epitome of multi-racial harmony, where, every New Year's Eve, young people from the wealthier suburbs mix with their less advantaged brethren from high imigration areas like the grim estates of Northern Paris, and march down the banks of the Seine, singing " Ebony and Ivory " and " Kumbaya my Lord " arms linked, in an expression of " Liberte, Egalite & Fraternete "....

Or alternatively, over 600 cars are set on fire in the Northern Estates, around the Stade de France every New Years Eve, there is very little mixing or integration outside the major Cities, some refugees who get to France find it so welcoming that they risk hanging off Lorry axles to get to the UK, and the Front Nationale came 2nd in the 1st round of Presidential elections last year..

Going by UK ethnicity %

9 of the first 11 should be "White" British
1 of the first 11 should be "Asian" British
1 of the first 11 being an amalgam of other ethnicities.

We're very close to being representative.

Just need to replace the "Irish contingent" & "Defour".

The Vichy Government collaborated in the holocaust by the 'round up' ( I hate the phrase but cannot think of another one,) of Jews under their jurisdiction and sending them, in their thousands, on transports to the concentration camps. Admittedly they were under pressure to do so but apparently it did not take much to persuade them to acquiesce in this most awful of racial crimes. The Vichy France Government was still to a large extent a sovereign Government and also took up arms against the allies in many of the theatres of war in WW2. This latter betrayal is one of the unreported aspects of WW2 because it was politically unacceptable to call them to account after the allied victory.
Of course the Free French Brigades were loyal to the allied cause and fought with great distinction but De Gaulle was more of a hindrance than a help and was apparently , with some justification, distrusted by the allied leadership.

L'Equipe are staffed by French Journalists, going by The World Population at least 50% of their staff should be Chinese and a good proportion from The Indian subcontinent.

I have been reading about this on reddit for the last couple of days, literally went viral. To be honest the general consensus among football fans is that it is nothing more than a desperate attempt to generate revenue. The remainder of the article is behind a Paywall and those that have viewed it,say that it is very complimentary of us but Ofcourse By then they have your money. There was a lot of ribbing when we drew with utd about what they were going to write now. It definitely hasn't put them in a good light ie equippe. Utc

Quite ridiculous. A layman might look at the teamsheet and raise eyebrows but we have bought or tried to buy black players and either they weren’t up to standard, pushed to leave or turned down the chance to join. Coincidental. Anyway I can only find a maximum of five British players in our strongest starting line up.

But they arguably wouldn’t have been in the strongest starting line up. Brady and Wood would have featured ahead of them.

I'm sure some of our squad would like to join in as well.

The other day I was thinking that a player like Gueye (or Gana or whatever his name is) at Everton is the type of player we should be after now.

I don't think, of course, that it is racist that we haven't got black players, or many foreigners in our side. It's more a question of finding the right characters and them fitting into the squad, along with a lack of knowledge of what's available beyond these shores. If we continue to progress I'm sure this is an area we will develop.

Defour, after some difficulties, seems to be proving a success (indeed is he not the clubs first successful foreign import?). We can learn from this.

As I said on the "twisting the facts" thread when I highlighted this article the other day - the French public have been up in arms about this article and really shamed l'equipe on social media - apparently the rest of the article behind the paywall is actually very complimentary and steers well clear of this - pure clickbait unfortunately at our expense

I would love to know the ethnic percentages of France and compare that to the ethnic percentages of their national team. Off the top of my head maybe black French players are vastly over represented and therefore their world cup qualifying campaign had racist elements or maybe they are just the best players for the job :o

gandhisflipflop, the French have lots of academies who bring players from the old french colonies.
If you look at the 98 world cup winning squad the French people considered it as a real positive image of multi-cultural France.
The fact that many of them were born outside France and had no French ancestry seems to be of little concern to anybody.

I think one of the reasons our team spirit is so good is that the players and management share a common language and culture. Dressing room banter in sport depends on a shared understanding of humour, irony and having had similar experiences in life. If you dilute that too much you start to lose the positivity which comes with it. When I look at most Premier League teams now I do wonder how they communicate and build that almost indefinable togetherness. Burnley's strength is that they would all run through brick walls for each other, and I'm sure that's partly to do with the cultural character of the team.

Yes definitely. In a recent interview on Clarets Player Steven Defour said that one of the major reasons why the group was "the strongest" he has been in is the language. Both he and JBG have a good mastery of the language which has helped them integrate into the group.

It is though.

If the same argument was being made about a police force, a board room or a school. Many people would support it on here despite the gist being exactly the same. Those teams of people might be hugely functional but because some jumped up liberals cry discrimination, they may be forced into change that would upset the balance and strength of the unit. It happens all the time in other walks of life, football is far from immune.

Regardless of the article nonsense, which seems a more natural fit - an English team in the English premier league managed by an Englishman with predominantly British & Irish players (Burnley) OR an English team in the English premier league managed by a Frenchman with predominantly French & non-British players (Arsenal)?

Lot different feel to the "Frog" rag though. I found the Independent article quite interesting.... how things can be twisted and minipulate anything into anything you want to say; and yet put in little one sentence disclaimers to avoid Libel actions. The frog took the lesser, subtler digs points and blew the lid on what the Independent had left the reader to make there own connections, they printed the extremeist Liberal /PC view that had been supposed to be subconscious conclusion. I.e. don't start liking them they're evil... they're traditional and backwards.

i think one of the reasons why we have a predominantly British make up is simple.

Other clubs have been prepared to pay imports more money, if i was an african or french or east european and i had the choice of 3 premier league clubs i would probably choose the club that was prepared to pay me more. So i would choose Swansea or Hull instead of Burnley.

As we grow the number of foreign players will increase and the challenge will be assimilation.

Burnley will always be cast as a racist/brexit area. Last year the MEN reporter heavily hinted at the racist crowd for booing Sterling.

Interestingly Israeli chess players were refused visas for major chess tournament to be held in Doha. Will be interesting if Israel qualify for that world cup.
