The winger we have been crying out for since Glen Little.

Played very well today looks a good addition now he is dyche fit utc
Re: Lennon on the right
He's a real step up - extremely hard working player with pace and 1v1 ability. Just what we've needed for a while now, quality

Exciting when he gets one on one with a full back, energetic and effective.
I think we need to get him on the ball more somewhat.

Got to say I thought when we signed him he has had his best days behind him, but in a few games have seen some great skills. Good signing

Selling him to replace hin with walcott for 5 times more is one of the most baffling transfers ever.
Walcotts not bad. But hes no better than Lennon.

Re: Lennon on the right
He is the perfect player for us and our system. Works his balls off but also has pace, directness, and a willingness to beat a man. Also, and importantly, looks like he's really enjoying his football. Happy to have him. A very classy player.

He's the sort of player we were crying out for and we've got him. He's a massive piece of the jigsaw.

I was critical on a previous thread as I thought he'd been average at best since he's been here.. today he was superb!! I doff my cap to you Mr Lennon!!

Re: Lennon on the right
Excellent game from him today. The run he did in the second half past half the Everton team was pure class. Another example of how this team is evolving.

Re: Lennon on the right
Didn't we look better with the wingers on their correct sides Mr Dyche? I've been banging on about this for weeks and today he finally played them on their correct sides and we looked so much more balanced. Lennon had a great game BTW

Quicker than I thought he'd be, plus clever skills and a wicked cross.
There was a buzz when he got on the ball today, I like him, quality player.

Re: Lennon on the right
Lennon must stay on the right, then Brady on the left when fit, (and Gudmundsson playing inside), and we'll score a lot more goals.

How refreshing it is to see a player taking on his man. He's a fast, skilful player and he really caused Everton problems today. If he can stay fit, he'll be a cracking signing for us.
Re: Lennon on the right
I’m old fashioned - wingers should be on the correct side. A hardworking winger can still be effective defensively, even when not inverted.

Re: Lennon on the right
I guess it depends how 'old' is old fashioned. If you're in your 60s then old fashioned would be being able to use both feet. No 'wrong' foot or 'correct' side.DCWat wrote:I’m old fashioned - wingers should be on the correct side. A hardworking winger can still be effective defensively, even when not inverted.

Can't wait until we are fielding a team with Lennon, Brady and Defour, in it.

Re: Lennon on the right
Seems a confidence player - when the crowd rises he gives his all for the cause.
With the reception he got leaving the pitch today and the way he soaked it all in.... especially the CFS appreciation towards him at the end - he will be unplayable .... if the fans can adopt him as "one of our own" and give him the Barton status of this team then I have no doubt we will have an absolute world beater on the wing for us.

Re: Lennon on the right
If he hits that level of form for us, he will be devastating. Brilliant performance yesterday, he may well have wanted to make a point against his former club, but either way it was successful.
His speed and intent to get forward were great to watch.
I know there is a time to play it safe and pass it around hoping to find a gap to exploit, but his approach was so effective and direct.
It frightens opponents and makes them panic.
He clearly has an eye for goal given half a chance too.So unlucky with that half volley .

Re: Lennon on the right
It was suggested on here before the game he’d play as a double full-back...didn’t seem like that!

Re: Lennon on the right
An immense signing. But I'm sure most of us already knew that when he signed, surely. We all knew what he was capable of.
The fact that Aaron Lennon is at Burnley, in itself, is bloody amazing. We're the best we've been in at least 30 years.

Re: Lennon on the right
The main thing about Lennon (apart from the fact that he is Aaron Lennon - one of my favourite wingers for years) is that Dyche can now play the brilliant Gudmondsson on his natural left. Gudmondsson has been inmmense this season and now playing in his right (or left ha ha) positon how much more will we get out of him now? The question is going to be next season, when Brady is fit again, what will Dyche do about the left side? No way in this world can we drop JBG after the season he's had but Brady was just coming into incredible form when he was injured and he will surely not have a player like him sat on the bench (nor should he). But would bringing JBG indside spoil his game somewwhat? What a pleasant dilemma to have.
On another note: I have been very critical on here of Barnes, saying I don't think he is good enough etc. He is beginning to make me eat my words and I have to say I am delighted at that. Long may it continue. His perfectly timed run on Saturday from Lowton's peach of a pass was superb. Maybe he is the man to play behind Wood (who looks sharp as ever despite his lay-off). I have been a fan of Hendrick for a long time and defended him against a lot of criticism but he is looking somewhat jaded to say the least, Barnes would be a decent option for the position he has been playing, do you think Dyche will give it a try or is he too loyal to Hendrick?

I like the look of that Nil. I'd be surprised if they're all fit and firing at the same time, especially with our luck with wingers, but here's hoping.nil_desperandum wrote:Lennon must stay on the right, then Brady on the left when fit, (and Gudmundsson playing inside), and we'll score a lot more goals.

Re: Lennon on the right
That’s a terrible injury Brady is coming back from. He could be some considerable time before he’s ready for Premier League again. I have a feeling it might be more October before we seem him challenging. Dyche will have him playing loads of games to get him ready.
Re: Lennon on the right
Great experience - how many times when the ball is on the left hand side does he end up in space on the edge of the box with a shooting opportunity. Unlucky not to score v City, Soton and Everton. He was going mad at a team mate in 2nd half for not finding him.
Saw him on Sky earlier in the season v Swansea and he was definitely still an attacking threat.
When his name was read out pre game he got a round of applause from Everton fans, always a good sign. Then again Everton won't be saying that about Keane.

he's good no doubt about that. Lovely seeing him take on Keane and co Saturday.

Re: Lennon on the right
Talking to Everton fans after game, they were bemoaning the fact they had a RB playing LB due to injuries. Lennon looked great all game and I hope he spends more time on the right, but Dyche loves the inverted wingers thing. I wonder if Lennon on the right side was a specific ploy against a fullback on the wrong side of the pitch, rather than a broader change in attitude towards which side the wide men should play on.

Re: Lennon on the right
Think not having Vokes on influences Dyche's thinking. He's great in the air with those in-swinging crosses when the winger cuts inside to find a yard and whips one.
Re: Lennon on the right
Wonder if he'll get us a penalty?
