The Ashley Barnes Fan Club.

Post by Sidney1st » Sat Mar 03, 2018 2:19 pm

After listening to Carragher on Sky Sports today I think he's signed up as a Barnes' fan.

Superb today. Everton's defence didn't know how to deal with him

It's hard not to be a Barnes fan. His hold up play and genuine bullying of most defences is outstanding. A replacment player would be 20m plus.

I thought first half his lack of compsure let him down.

Second half he had the same type of chances and was far more assured.

Id have actually kept hendrick on. But great tactics fron Dyche.

in his own way he is the most difficult striker to play against in the PL. I'll be gutted the day he leaves

Only Costa was as niggly for defenders as our Ash - he is not around now so no one better at it in our league

Barnes’ value must be rising steadily. He’s really getting noticed as hard working, gritty player.

He’s a cracking player who in another side might look a none league player.

Suits our system to a tee and has a fantastic work ethic. Barnes is someone I would be so pleased to play alongside if I was a footballer, non stop effort (and, whisper it as it doesn’t get said enough, a lot of ability on the ball).

Have to take my hat off to Barnes who has probably had his best season for us.
At one time earlier in the season I was thinking he might be a liability and get himself sent off in some games
but he seems to have sorted that out whilst still remaining very competitive.
And he's scored some important goals too.
Well done the Ash!

Barnes was terrific! If you look at there lad Tosun apart from the chance that he put away, the difference in the pair of them was mikes apart one cost around 30 m and Barnes was nearer 300k.Proper Burnley striker we looked a proper danger with him and wood good end to the season me thinks...

Just edged it for my MOM today did Ash. Thought he made life difficult for Keane and Williams even when up on his own. Great to support him with Wood too, worked a treat.

Not sure I even saw any theatrics from him today either? Just cracked on and played excellent.

An absolutely outstanding player, Wood did well on his comeback...but could learn a bit from Ash on ball retention

Today for me has shown how Barnes should be played in this Burnley. He is not an out and out centre forward. There were better 'goalscorers' sat in the bench in the first half. I thought Ash was excellent in the first half but forever found himself isolated. 2nd half Ash was just as excellent but he had a goalscorer on the pitch who pushed Everton back and he had someone to play to. For me it has to be Wood up top. Ash in the No 10 role. Hendrick either further back in midfield or on the bench behind Westwood who has done well.

He's still one of my favourite Burnley players ever. It will be a dark, dark day when he's no longer with us. He usually makes it very tough for the opposition.

I advocated replacing him during pre-season as I thought he was the weakest out of the four strikers we have - shows how much I know, a brilliant barn-storming performance today.
I love him.

Don't want to sound smug but I've always been a fan.
I couldn't understand why others couldn't see how much he brings to the team.
Opposition fans and players hate him. The more they hate him, the more I love him.

Heard some lunatic today saying that AB wasn't worth a starting place, and he brought nothing to the team???

Baffling... utterly baffling. Wouldn't have swapped him today for ANY forward player on the pitch.

Barnes was outstanding today. A proper centre forward performance. And I wonder if Dyche had a word with him about falling over too easily because today he took all the pushes and knocks, stood up, and looked all the better for it.

90 mins up - Barnes holds it up - draws 3 players in - kicks it their defence then chases it half way across the pitch to panic their defender into clearing it.

I commented during the game to a mate that he's our attacking equivalent of Brian Jensen - we can bring others in but he just keeps upping his game to keep his shirt .... a quality that will only come from his type of career where you're only a few bad games away from being released.

I don't know if Andy Lochhead gets on the Turf much these days, but had he watched Ashley today I would imagine he'd give a quiet nod of approval and a 'Yes, that's a centre forward's game that I would play.'
Andy was a beast of a centre forward, ask Mike England. :)

I've been telling people for years that he's my favourite player and they never believe me. I earmarked Dean Marney as a future legend too when many had him written off. I also said Jay Rodriguez would never make it as a Premier League player after his Barnsley loan but no-one needs to know about that.
