Jay Rodriguez
I don't post much on here these days but when I do it's worth listening to.
You heard it here first boys and girls:
The lad is coming home and will start next season as that number 10 we have been crying out for.

Love it when people pretend to be in the know, A 5 a.m post telling us all we are signing somebody because of a ****** up conversation at 5 a.m between you and your friend won’t make me fall for it! Don’t need him let’s jog on, what’s he going to do clean wood and Barnes boots?

I can also confirm that Rodriguez will be coming back. Along with Tripper and Ings. Stan will also take over from Dyche.

Older than Wood
Less goals this season than Wood

Less goals this season than Barnes
Older than Vokes
Only one goal more than Vokes
If he was free then I’d say take a punt but will likely command a fee similar to last year so WBA can recoup most of it.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
It's easy to say no to Rodriguez at present because he's playing in an incredibly poor West Brom team. That doesn't make him a bad player all of a sudden. I'm not saying I'd want us to sign him, but I certainly wouldn't want us to rule him out. He'd improve the squad.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
We won't increase our wage cap by that much, especially for someone who isn't a stand out player.
Only gets a mention because he's a former player, other than that based on his last couple of seasons there wouldn't be much interest, especially on those wages.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
When you look at the form of Rodriguez, Keane, Ings and Gray since they left us it made me wonder how many Burnley players have gone onto bigger and better things while SD has been here.
Possibly Tripper, even then I'd say he played better for us before his transfer.

Would I like him back? Yes
Would SD want him? Maybe
Will it happen? Very doubtful
He's not the same player he was after the bad injuries and his wages would be a massive issue for is. There are better, healthier and cheaper options out there.

Both Barnes and Vokes had similar knee injuries and are now far better players than they were before getting injured in the same way.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
Jay would be an excellent addition to the Burnley squad, he really would. Please don't let your opinion be skewed by the fact that he's playing for a team on the way down. At WBA he almost always gets played wide in a 3, which is more of a five than a three. He hardly has anyone to pass to and he doesn't score goals because his role hasn't enabled him to, in a side which creates so little. I bet Dawson has had more attempts on goal than Jay. I'm not sure there's anything in it, but if there is, I'd certainly want us to be interested. Jay hasn't been injured for ages, so that shouldn't put us off. I bet his old man would like the move too! Don't get ahead of yourselves folks. We need to remember why we're doing so well. Jay fits the bill.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
Although Jay was a very good player for us several years ago, I'd like to think that we're setting our sights higher than him when it comes to player recruitment in the summer.
Re: Jay Rodriguez
The OP averages 3.8 posts daily, so not a rare poster.
However, just as a personal view, Jay Rodriguez is a total Claret so no question of his commitment.
He is a good header of the ball and a good striker. He can tackle and just behind the striker would be ideal. There is room in the squad and we would score more goals and not lose out defensively.
I would be chuffed if he returned. Whether he will is a different issue.

Jay has been OK this season without the goals he used to score.
He runs as hard, leaps as high. In the right team he is still a player.

I dont know why people keep making excuses as to why we should sign a player who has a poor reord of injuries, a poor goalscoring record since those injuries and who has spent the season as the main forward signing in one of the premier leagues worse ever teams.IndigoLake wrote:It's easy to say no to Rodriguez at present because he's playing in an incredibly poor West Brom team. This summer needs to be a ruthless one or we could well find ourselves dragged into a proper relegation scrap next season. Have to look at Rodriguez and think “is he really what we need”. I think no. Not a natural number 10, got better strikers, and should be signing a better winger. Arfield and GKN probably won’t be here next season.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
First of all, there are no excuses from me! I'm very much on the fence about Rodriguez. However, he's a PL player for a reason and he was capped for England for a reason. Now, I know those things don't make him a good player - some very average players have appeared in the PL and received caps. However, I'm just trying to be open-minded as to what he could bring to us. He's certainly different to Barnes and Wood and I feel he'd offer enough as a squad player. Certainly won't offer less than our other forwards have!cricketfieldclarets wrote:I dont know why people keep making excuses as to why we should sign a player who has a poor reord of injuries, a poor goalscoring record since those injuries and who has spent the season as the main forward signing in one of the premier leagues worse ever teams.

Rodriguez has had injuries but has also been fit for a while now. If we signed him, it would be because we feel he's seen the worst of them. Also, I would think we've learned something about not writing off players because they're part of a poor team. We signed Pope, Gudmundsson and Heaton from relegated teams (from the Championship no less!). So I think there's a lot to it such as the coaching the player is getting, how he fits in with the ethos of the club and style of play etc. Many Derby fans were happy to see the back of Hendrick and Villa fans weren't exactly crying over Lowton or Westwood leaving. There are probably plenty more examples.
So with regard to sentiment - there's none from me. I'm not from Burnley and I'm not even from Lancashire. Never lived there and never will. I don't care that Jay is from Burnley (though I do think it would help in terms of his performances if he was playing for his hometown club again). I'm just not ruling Rodriguez out. Lots of people argue that fans are biased over Jay because he's a Burnley lad. I'd actually say that you're far more likely to see comments saying that people only want to sign him because he's 'one of our own'. It probably actually goes against him as you can see from some of the comments on this thread.
Sorry for the essay, haha Just trying to be open-mined about such a signing.

Fair enough indigo. Csnt argue with your post. Just dont think we should be looking at him now. If we signed him I would fully support him.
Think we actually need to be looking at a smaller, quicker goal poacher to compliment Wood, Barnes or even Vokes. And thee creativity from wide.

Re: Jay Rodriguez
Westwood and Lowton are examples of good players being not overly popular because some fans have an unrealistic view of their clubs position. A bit like some of our own with regard to Wells and Walters.
Jay Rod would be a good addition to our squad, Lionel Messi would be a good addition to our first XI.
