Player of the year voting

Post by Croydon Claret » Mon Apr 02, 2018 4:27 pm

Voting has been open a while, last date for votes is 20/04

https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/new ... year-1718/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I voted for Nick Pope on the basis that he has exceeded expectations by the greatest margin

I couldn't find any way to vote for anything else e.g. best goal, but if anybody knows how then please let me know

It's nigh on impossible to be 100% confident in a vote for player of the season. There have been so many consistent performers over the course of the season. I narrowed it down to 7!

Nick Pope - better than anyone could ever have expected.
James Tarkowski - stepped into Keane's shoes effortlessly, and replaced him in the England squad, in less than 12 months.
Ben Mee - the mistakes of the beginning of last season have well and truly gone. Immaculate this season.
Jack Cork - exactly what we needed. Loads of experience, great game management, a runner with other attributes.
Steven Defour - would have been even harder casting a vote if he'd been fit all season.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson - very dependable, very creative, understands the defensive side of our game. Rarely had a bad game.
Ashley Barnes - what can you say about him?

I eventually settled on Tarkowski, but it's seriously tough to make a decision!

It's so tough because most of the squad have been out injured for large spells, I'd probably go for Mee because Tark has missed quite a few games but if Defour carried on his form before getting injured for the season I'd have gave it to him. Barnes recently is certainly making a claim. I'll probably wait until the last day of voting.

Ben Mee played three more games than Tarks.

Shouldn't it not be player of the season? If you're looking for players of the year so far, or calendar year, it's a whole different question and answer.

Very, very tough and tbh even tougher with 7 games left which might have a real bearing on things. Anyway, I plumped for Cork as I think he's made as big a difference as anybody from last season when were flirting with relegation to us now being comfortably PL.

Don't think there'll be a runaway winner this season. You could make an argument for most players

I'd probably have to go for Barnes up to press.

Defour would have walked it for me but for his injury.

Currently can't choose but Lowton has been particularly impressive.

Barnes would be my 3rd

Any one from:

Pope
Lowton
Tarkowski
Mee
Ward
JBG
Defour
Barnes

Cork and Brady early season form would have seen them in the reckoning too but Cork not dominating quite as much and Brady hasn't played enough football to warrant the award. What a side we have at the moment.

I'll probably give my vote to Ben Mee. Deserved the England call so let's acknowledge him amongst our own ranks even if that lot don't.

Totally agree with MD Wat. All his nominations are worthy. Sign of a great team

For me Pope/Ward/Tarks/Mee/Barnes/Cork/Defour have all been superb and a few others not far behind

Extremely difficult choice. Despite Barnes being my favourite player (and indeed winning the plaudits of many of late), I have to give it to Nick Pope who I think has done an incredible job after coming in for Heaton this season. He has an excellent defence in front of him but he has more than contributed to our success.

Surely one should wait until the end of the season before voting. If Barnsey scores in the next seven games it'll be a cake walk, if that's how you call it.

There's a case for many of the squad to be fair given that they have done such a good job, we really are truly blessed. For me, there are three players who immediately come to the fore when I first thought player of the year. Barnes, Pope and Tarkowski. All three have really have stepped up to the plate above all this season.
How I'm going to choose one from those three I don't know, I'll probably bottle it, write each name on a piece of paper, whoever gets pulled out of the hat gets the vote. I don't know how else I'm going to choose.

Easy decision for me .....

Nick Pope - absolutely amazing step up from this guy; how have we managed to get two England keepers?

Although ......

Matt Lowton - what a player he's been this season - missed him so much during his injury and shown his true class since he got back in the team

However .......

Stephen Ward - this guy has been so good; missed him (as Lowts) when he was injured - came back and has been brilliant once more

Then again ........

Ben Mee - it's just Ben. He's a leader. A winner. I love Ben. Definitely player of the season

But .........

Tarks - jumped in to Keanes boots. Fully deserved England call up. So reliable and has shocked us all just how bloody good he is

Actually .........

Jack Cork - how did we steal him from Swansea? Absolute class. So comfortable on the ball and full of energy. Just brilliant.

Just thought of ........

JBG - he's really the POS - works so hard but has the true quality and is such a danger going forward with us. Shows what we missed last season.

We can't rule out ......

Steven Defour - absolute top quality and, but for his injury, would be playing in the world cup so I'll opt for him as my bang on player of the season

Hey up, what about ...........

Ashley Barnes - bloody hell, how good has our Ashley been -scored some absolute screamers and made defensive life a misery for most of our opposition; yep, he's the man

Hmmmmmm, maybe picking a player of the season isn't that easy.

What a set of players.

What a team.

What a club.

Feckin love this team :)

Would have easily been Steven Defour for me but for his injury.

Really hard to pick from there as many have said - I narrowed it down to Pope and Tark.

Finally went for Tark as our record without him in the team was telling.
