What memorable day it was. A great goal , great support and a great piece of Burnley FC history. I didn't cry but I got a bit emotional just now watching the link! I do seem to recall that Duff could have put the game to bed when he found himself near to the goal and 'just' had to wrap his foot around the ball to divert it into the net but I guess the pace of the ball beat him. Anyone else remember this ?

We sold close to 40,000 tickets, I bet the town was completely empty that day.

harsh game at times football, we finished 5th to their 3rd spot , the look of dejection on the sheff fans faces was quite a picture.

Walton - thanks for posting that. Got to admit I blubbed again.

When you see Wade and Clarke and Paterson and Alexander and Coyle and Wembley and the fans and and and it just fills you wowness.

What a day.

Next year on this day should be Wadeday.

They probably expected to win but they were never going to, the momentum we built up was magical and near unstoppable. It's a shame the atmosphere has disappeared at the Turf since Coyle left, we've had better results since but it's not felt quite as special for me.

I remember to clear cut chances in the 2nd half. First was a great Paterson cross to the far post which was nodded down by Thompson to Gudjonsson but he didn't make a clear connection and it hit the back leg of the Sheff Utd player on the line and trickled wide for a corner.

The 2nd was Thompson played onside down the wing and playing it square for Blake to tap in but Kyle Walker, whatever happened to him?, got back with a brilliant sliding challenge to deflect it wide.

They cleared the stadium pretty quickly.

Had booked a holiday in the Isle of Skye months before the playoffs never thinking we’d get to Wembley. Seems like quite a few other Clarets had done the same . Found a pub in Portree showing the game and it was packed with exiled and holidaying Clarets. Brilliant day not as good as being there but the next best thing

My boys were 4 & 6 years old. Took them, the wife & the in-laws, because I knew it would be special. My eldest boys written school report of the day is one of my favourite possessions. What a memory. Then they got to see Robbie Blake belt the winner at home to Utd. My youngest lad has a massive wall vinyl of Blake celebrating. Makes me smile every morning when I go in his room. The train from Euston to Sandbach is a drunken blur. Never thought I’d see us in the top flight again in my lifetime. My boys are now spoilt with memories. How generations change.

So much to say about the day , but when i think back it was when i was going home when it really hit home .
We were in Gatwick airport and we decided to have a beer in one of the bars which was full of Man Yooooo fans on the way to the champions league final . We were wearing colours and i felt all the eyes on us , and i just said to myself next season baby, and i was right too .

Went down that day with my mate (who was blubbing like a baby), my wife and her nephew, who wasn’t a Burnley fan before the game but was after it.

The lad, who was a teenager then, we got a great shot of sat on a lion in Trafalgar Square afterwards waving a Burnley flag. This year, he died in his car (an old wreck) of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

The older we get, the more the great memories become important ones.

Great day, loved every minute of it.

Steve Thompson was a brilliant signing by Coyle. He was far more skilful than some gave him credit for.

As for the game, I was a nervous wreck throughout, especially when we were leading...However, the more I watch it back, the more I realise that it was as comfortable a 1-0 win as you’re ever likely to see. Burnley strolled it!

Should have had at least 3 goals but I think they were unlucky not to get a penalty.
For me Mike Dean can do no wrong no matter how many bad decisions he now makes against us.

and people hate Coyle still, for me the memories he created outweigh any negativity surrounding his departure. A truly special time, if he wanted to leave after it, he deserved the chance elsewhere imo.

Guilty of a few tears. I just found the whole experience emotionally knackering. It felt like every game in the last two months was “must win”, or at least must not lose.

I remember the last away game at Southampton when we drew having been ahead, and then listening to Preston on the radio on the way home, coming from behind to beat Birmingham, meaning we still hadn’t secured the play-off spot going into the last game. Fortunately, Bristol City were hopeless!
