Worst so called tourist location you have visited ?

Post by bfcjg » Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:40 pm

Inspired by the best location thread. For me in the UK Lands end reminded me of the Father Ted fairground episode. Abroad Malta, might have been when and where but reminded me of a hot quarry with lots of churches.

Without a doubt, Kavos in Corfu. Dirty horrible place. There was a torrential downpour and the streets flooded, and with the poor sewarage system, human sh*t was floating down the streets. Fell I'll as a result for the majority of the 2 week holiday.

Never hear of people going there nowadays, and not surprised.

In this country, Madame Tussaud’s. I often use Baker Street tube station as part of my route round London when I’m down there on business and I simply can not fathom what anyone gets out of visiting that place - even more so at the eye watering admission prices - yet there are always dozens of tourists flocking there.

Abroad, Lloret de Mar by a considerable distance. I went in 1996 just after the Euro’s finished and just before I started uni with a bunch of mates and the place is horrendous.

Went to Kavos in the early 80s it was spot on and quite quiet....like lots of places greed takes over and ruins the resort.

Worst destinations have been ayr in Scotland, not a lot to do, beaches had a tide line of broken glass to cross, we drove away from a car park as we valued our windows, not been back for some reason.

Tied in top spot, Burnham on sea. Dirty flea ridden accommodation, town a bit of a dump, tried to move but nowhere else to go and we were travelling east later in the week. Not going back there.

Cleethorpes - we were camping in North Lincs and the landlord of a local pub said it was ok now they've done a bit of work on the front. Wouldn't have liked to seen it before the work.

Mablethorpe - we were camping in north Lincs and the landlord of a local pub told us about a family who'd gone there on a two week holiday from Essex. They went home after 2 days. Went for a drive and only got out of the car to get some ice from Lidl.

Faliraki - building site, think the tv programme finished the investment in resort.

I do not understand why people go to these places when everyone has a story about being made ill there.

What made you go?

Polperro is decent. Can't see a problem, other than no bins to put litter in.

Paris.
Last time I went we drove over in the car and encountered heavy traffic trying to get to the city centre,
It was like entering downtown beruit. We were scared to open the windows to let fresh air in. Won't be going back for a long time now.

The usual reasons to go to a different holiday destination. See a bit more of the world, etc. A lot of people I know have been without problems, but the place won’t be seeing me again.

Polperro is fine. It's a lovely Cornish seaside village to walk through and spend some time in. Head up to the Looe side, on the path after the harbour, and you'll find stunning views of the coastline. Same goes for the Fowey/Polruan side as well. One criticism, too much hundekacke - scumbag dog owners who can't be bothered to pick up.

Went there in 1990 and it great, still very Spanish.. Went again in 1999 and it had become a drug ridden hovel run by undesirables. Avoid.

Anyone who thinks Majorca is the worst place they've been to most definitely has not been to the right part of Majorca/Mallorca. Suspect confined to the English breakfast and lager ghetto in the corner of the island around Magaluf. The Northern, mountainous side of Mallorca is absolutely beautiful. Palma is a very nice capital city too.

It's 15 years ago since I went there.... For a "city" it had a very poor transport system as I recall 1 bus every hour to and from alcudia and other destinations.in comparison to London Barcelona And Dusseldorf it was one big yawn.

Benidorm: The local tramps were better dressed, and washed, than some of the British tourists. Only spent 24 hours there and that was enough. It's true what they say - it's Blackpool with sunshine.

Hamburg is the biggest anti climax of a place ive been. Heard such good things couldnt wait to visit.

Was like a grottier, less fun Amsterdam.

Hamburg closely followed by Rotterdam. Went for NYE and it was abysmal. Miserable places. No pubs open on NYE - anywhere. In fact i found both Rotterdam and Hamburg very similar.

Went to Benidorm at 19 and had a great time. And Magaluf first time at 18. Great again. (Got repeatedly worse on each subsequent visit). At 18, 19 they were great holidays. But cant imagine now anywhere I would less rather go other than Hamburg and Rotterdam. How grown men go to Magaluf amd Benidorm for their stag dos, 40th and 50ths is beyond me.
