The Imp

Post by troubleatmexico » Mon Jul 16, 2018 1:07 pm

Shot in the dark this, I don't suppose anyone has a copy of a book about The Imp in Nelson that I could take off their hands? It's my mum's 70th birthday and she was a regular back in the day. There was a book published but it's out of print now.

Is it a novel, or a short story?

Heritage centre in Barrowford or Townley Hall sell a lot of local books. Possibly worth a try?

It’s called “Going Down Th’Imp” by Steve Chappells. Good luck.

If anyone has a stash I would also be interested -- OP first, obviously. It was reprinted in the late 90s I think, but I have struggled to find one, just borrowed one.

Is the book you mean " Ballroom of the Stars" by Steve Chapples?
I just have the one copy. I'm the same age as your mum so the Imp was a big part of my life
.
Unfortunately, Steve died. I'm not sure where you'd get a copy now. Townley did stock it when it was first published but not recently. I'll have a look locally.
Good luck

That's it -- it was actually reprinted in 2010, my mind was playing tricks and I thought it was earlier than that.

Cheers.

The book is a4 size. If all else fails, you are welcome to photccopy mine. I'm sure your mum would appreciate being able to read it. Don't want to part with mine. It means a lot and one of my old bands gets a mention.
Have you tried Les ar Electrón?

Rather than photocopy it would it be possible to scan it and turn it into a PDF?? Not sure if 'nan' has an ebook reader or something similar.....

When I saw the OP title I had visions of a big fat lad wearing an ill-fitting pyjama top clobbering anything he could get near enough to.

The memorabilia stall is no longer. I actually shared a cab home from the cricket with the guy from the cd stall yesterday. Don't know his name. Has a stall in Colne market too.

Yes he is a top guy and certainly knows his music..... he is a huge Beatles fan and has a fantastic collection of their stuff ..The stall in Colne market is run by his son except Saturdays because his son is a BFC season ticket holder so his Dad runs it for him.
The guys name escapes me...i should know it as I buy loads of cds from him.

My Grandad was the head doorman, up until it closing down (Herbert Dawson, also known as Tiny).
I've been told many a tale about the goings on behind the scenes at the long since Imperial, some by my Grandad some by others.
