Re: ARTICLE: No imminent move for Clucas
The only deadline the manager is working to is the transfer deadline on 9th August. He's already said we won't be rushing any signings through to get them eligible for the Europa League games.randomclaret2 wrote:Isnt the deadline for any signing to be able to play in either leg against Aberdeen this Friday ?

Each subsequent round/stage also had its own individual deadline

As I said, he doesn't seem concerned about it at all - just the deadline and getting the players in for the Premier League which means by 5 p.m. on 9th August.randomclaret2 wrote:Each subsequent round/stage also had its own individual deadline

Not sure the fans who bought the Aberdeen tickets did so on the strength of only going if there are new signings

Understandable. Always refers to league fixtures as his 'bread and butter' and that is how it should be. I imagine that under his tenure our wins in cup games must be significantly low in percentage terms.ClaretTony wrote:As I said, he doesn't seem concerned about it at all - just the deadline and getting the players in for the Premier League which means by 5 p.m. on 9th August.

So you were only going to the Aberdeen game if we has new signings? And why should dyche go public about signings?northeastclaret wrote:I wish he had made that clear before the club sold tickets for the Aberdeen match, probably not sold out then

I totally inderstand the idea of the PL being our bread and butter and our place in it funding everything the club does but the reward for last seasons success in the PL is our place in Europe . It would be bizarre if we were to go out of the Europa League early as a result of not giving it any sort of priority having achieved a miracle to get in there.

No we're waiting for the final week of the window to take part in the inflated rat race as clubs scramble to get deals done. I didn't expect anything else, I'm a little surprised we haven't had 10 bids turned down for Dawson yet.Vegas Claret wrote:is there an imminent move for a single player that can walk into our first team ?

This is normal clubs will slap a price tag on player X,and then if this bid isn't met they have to reconsider their options,WBA will sell Dawson in this window, whether it's to us our A another time will tell.KRBFC wrote:No we're waiting for the final week of the window to take part in the inflated rat race as clubs scramble to get deals done. If we only sign 2/3 players this Summer,my priorities would be CB Dawson or Mawson,if we are looking longer-term Joe Byran would be a good acquisition, when Ward moves on Taylor and Byran could compete for the left-back slot,centre-mid could do with bolstering also,Defour picks up knocks too easily to rely on all season,Cork played every minute of our Premier League campaign, but that's unlikely to happen again, and after Christmas his form dipped dramatically, the only name to be linked in this role is Clucas thus far,12 million sounds a lot but if Defour is unavailable for lengthy spells, that leaves just Cork,Westwood and Hendrick as recognised centre midfielders, unless Aiden O'Neill is added to the first team squad which i doubt will happen.
A striker i don't class as essential if we keep the current five, however i won't shred any tears if Walters and Wells moved on and we signed another body, but Jay Rod at 20 million on balance is expensive, given our careful housekeeping, whether there is better value i don't know.
Some people would like a winger ala Phillips but this would be a luxury signing by Burnley standards,as long as Brady comes back into form and JBG continues to improve, this is not an immediate concern.
Of course if Ben moves on then we would be looking at buying 2 CB'S so we need this contract impasse resolved one way or the other.

We only have Lennon, JBG and Brady for 2 wide spots, I think a wide player is a priority same as we have 3 central defenders for 2 spots.tiger76 wrote:This is normal clubs will slap a price tag on player X,and then if this bid isn't met they have to reconsider their options,WBA will sell Dawson in this window, whether it's to us our A another time will tell.

Im not surprised Roy if Im being honest no....maybe a bit disappointed perhaps.Lets see how it goes though. It just goes against the grain for me not to try to win every single match we play. I totally inderstand the over riding importance of staying in the Premier League though.

It is to be fair Roy but with the added complication of the Europa this time around. Maybe the very fact that things are following a fairly normal pattern does confirm.that the Europa league really isnt much of a priority

In all honesty probably no more important than the FA Cup or League Cup in previous seasons.randomclaret2 wrote:It is to be fair Roy but with the added complication of the Europa this time around. Look, good as Dyche has been for us (and obviously there are no doubts in that department) the Board have been equally good to him. He knows that only to well and his first priority is to ensure he serves his employer well.
The ONLY real priority is securing a place in the PL for another season and earning the Club a further £120million in in Broadcast Income. Garlick might attempt to give a different slant on things but I think we all understand where we stand as regards progress in other competitions.

I can't see how clucas will get into the team? as he is no better than what we currently have n £12m to have sit on the bench just seems like a waste of £££ to me..

Re: ARTICLE: No imminent move for Clucas
Ideally we'd have 2 good options for every position, but we aren't at that level yet,Walters and Wells can play wide but it's not their natural role.KRBFC wrote:We only have Lennon, JBG and Brady for 2 wide spots, I think a wide player is a priority same as we have 3 central defenders for 2 spots.
Traditional wide-men have never been an important regard for Dyche anyway,he prefers inverted wingers, even when GKN was on loan it was only the shortage of numbers that got him so much game time.
I'm certainly not in panic mode yet,but it is concerning with the number of possible games next season, that the squad will be stretched too thinly.
Equally we shouldn't pay stupid money for panic buys,as always it's a balancing act.
This is where our lack of youth development bites on the backside,as even a couple of promising talents, that could produce 20 minute cameos from the bench would help massively.

The "why do we need squad players ? " argument was used last summer when the likes of Bardsley was signed .But that extra stength when injuries struck contributed to our 7th place finish

Indeed. On that occasion, the criticism we were signing players who were too cheap and not showing enough ambition.randomclaret2 wrote:The "why do we need squad players ? Now the criticism is that we might be signing players who are too expensive, and/or not signing players good enough to slot straight into a midfield that finished 7th in the Premier League last season. Its quite a remarkable criticism really.
Strikes me that the real problem here is that we're being linked with a solid reliable but not-very-exciting known quantity. If we were being linked with a relatively unknown midfielder from the French league, say, or a young kid who has never played in the Premier League (successfully, like Clucas, or otherwise) but who has shown a bit of potential in the Championship, I very much doubt there'd be much handwringing about a £12 million fee.
Fans seem to want excitement and potential over solid reliability; unfortunately for them, the manager wants the exact opposite.

Market is starting to open up now World Cup is over.
Arsenal making Ospina and Welbeck available. I’m not suggesting we should go for either but this is the standard of player that will crop up over the next three weeks.

The managers job is to win football matches which is easier to do with reliable players and a solid formation E.G big Sam and obviously the gaffer has done a great job, but as a fan what’s wrong with wanting to be excited? I’d be very very surprised if signing Sam Clucas gets many pulses racing.

Did Pope, Heaton, Tarkowski, Mee, Cork, Westwood, Gudmundsson, Barnes, Wood, Hendrick etc get your pulse racing
Re: ARTICLE: No imminent move for Clucas
I admire and appreciate all the effort the team put in which has resulted in a fantastic landmark season. But In answer to your question Johan has at times and I like the old fashioned centre forward type so I’d say Barnes as well.claretonthecoast1882 wrote:Did Pope, Heaton, Tarkowski, Mee, Cork, Westwood, Gudmundsson, Barnes, Wood, Hendrick etc get your pulse racing
Re: ARTICLE: No imminent move for Clucas
There have been many reasonable posts expressing concerns that we are paying too much for a squad player. We don't have infinite resources so it reduces our ability to improve the first team where we need it most, i.e. centre back and a different option up top.claretspice wrote:Now the criticism is that we might be signing players who are too expensive, and/or not signing players good enough to slot straight into a midfield that finished 7th in the Premier League last season.
