Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
Still thinking of mine but if you had to name 3 players responsible for taking us to our current place in football, who would you pick.
Elliot for me so far and Britton...

that's the thing about Burnley, always about the team. No way I could pick 10 players never mind 3

Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
Nick Pope, Ben Mee and James Tarkowski are the first 3 I'd pick for getting the club to 7th in the Premier League and qualifying for Europe.
Of course, there's more than those 3 in the team/squad/group last season - and they all played their part.
And, if we track back through earlier seasons we can add many more players who have contributed strongly to the club's successes.
But, can we count any of the 1959/60 Division 1 Champions for where the club is today? Or should we discount all those before the 1988 as we were on out knees in that "existential" season, and all who came before that time have nothing to say about where we are today?
Maybe the players who've played a part in the climb back up the leagues can lay claim to contributing to where we are today. But, what if we hadn't got back to the Premier League? Or, it only happened once in 2009/10? Could any player from that period be part of the success that has been built today?
The same can be said about the 2014/15 season in the Premier League - and relegation at the end of the season. if we hadn't done it again, then players in 2014/15 (and before) cannot be part of "where we are today."
So, it has to be the team/squad/group of last season and picking the best from that season alone. So, player of the season, team captain and our other great centre half.
UTC.

Elliott, Ings, Gray. Goals win games.
Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
It's a pretty pointless question given it's a team sport and our recent success has been all about the team and not individuals but i'll play along..
Blake, Trippier, Gray.

Impossible to pic 3.
Maybe 1 from each level we have been at.
In that case:
Conroy
Payton
Blake
Mee

Considering adding Alexander or Caldwell to make up my 3

Blake
Elliott
Barton
Blake installed the belief and the get out of your seat moments. Elliott just for that goal alone and Barton for dragging us by the scruff of the neck to promotion.

Three isn't enough, you could list a dozen players without even thinking about it!
Steve Davis no. 2, John Deary and Mike Conroy from the Division 4 days.
Andy Payton for scoring the goals for survival and promotion from the third tier.
Wade Elliott and Robbie Blake from the Coyle era.
Ings and Vokes were unplayable at times under Dyche.
Jack Cork and Steven Defour for taking us up a level in the PL.
See, told you, three isn't enough! There's 10 above and I've not even mentioned the likes of Joey Barton, Ben Mee, Michael Duff, Glen Little, Andre Gray, John McGreal etc etc...

Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
I guess you have to think about the players whose efforts have made the greatest impact on our history in my time watching the Clarets
Ian Britton: Scored ultimately the winning goal against Orient.
Wade Elliott: The Wembley hero against Sheff Utd.
Ashley Barnes: Scored the 1st goal against Wigan (And what a cracker it was) when we clinched promotion to the Prem at the Turf. Also he epitomises the Burnley spirit that we all recognise.

Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
A lot of players deserve enormous credit over the last decade or so to enable us to return and help us establish ourselves as a top flight club. However I think in time, history will determine that SD's best bit of business will be Joey Barton.

Robbie Blake
Kieran Trippier
Joey Barton
3 players who were made for the big games. Try as they might, opposition teams could never nullify the influence of these 3 on the team

Where we are today meaning fairly established in the Premier League. First and foremost Joey Barton who dragged us up by the bootstraps when otherwise we would not have been promoted.

A bit ambiguous is the question as there is no time scale.Burnleyareback2 wrote:Still thinking of mine but if you had to name 3 players responsible for taking us to our current place in football, who would you pick.
Elliot for me so far and Britton...
Getting us to the Premier League = Joey Barton (without a shadow of a doubt)
Lower divisions = Danny Ings. Kieran Trippier

Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
Only 3!!!!!!!!????????? That`s a challenge!!!!
I`m discounting Grewcock and Britton...too obvious and restrictive.
Mike Conroy - don`t think we`d have gone up without his goals and the Mullen effect might have dried up.
Steve Davis (sorry ClaretTony!) - think Ternent`s signing of him really elevated us to the next level and pushed us to promotion.
Joey Barton - the biggest `winner` I`ve seen play for Burnley. Honestly don`t think we`d have gone back up to the Premier League without him. His will to win, game management and seeming respect from the rest of the players created a monster of a team.

Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
Ian Wright Lifted the club and the town enough to ensure promotion. The goal against Notts County was incredible
Stephen Caldwell Up a level and the bedrock that all sides need. A leader on and off the pitch.
Joey Barton Another level up and the above qualities at a higher level
Difficult as they have all played their part, Elliot and Blake, Payton and Conroy, Dobson and Steve Davis (both of them). Ings & Vokes for their goals. Although we were relegated in the first season back, Beast pulled off some of the most incredible saves I have seen from a Burnley keeper and is worthy of a mention.

Re: Your 3 players who put us where we are today.
Payton has to be on my list. We’d have been back in the basement without him. Plus he got the goals to take us up a couple of years later.
Alexander is a good shout, that first promotion was key financially and he made that happen as much as anyone.
Then Joey Barton, we seemed to have lost our way a bit just before he came in. A relatively short but very influential stay.
Seems harsh on so many others, there’s a good case for 20 or so more.

Duff, Duff, Duff, longevity, attitude, guts & leadership, the man cost around £60,000 & promoted 3 times to the prem, he looked as fit as he ever has when he retired & appeared to have respect from his peers.
