Matej Vydra

Post by EarbyClaret » Sun Aug 05, 2018 12:16 am

Been out of the UK for a while so apologies in advance if this has been discussed already

Anything in this or pure speculation? Seen it mentioned by a couple of sources but nothing particularly reliable.

Top scorer in the Championship last season, deal to Leeds agreed at £7.2M but broke down over personal terms. Not in the Derby squad last night.

Not suggesting he would be a primary target but if, as seems likely, we struggle to land Rodriguez, would he be a feasible/realistic alternative?

Was just about to post the same - The Mirror seem confident with that wording but seen nothing else of this elsewhere.

Isn't he more of a number 10 than a striker?

We need both positions filled IMO

He’s a creative player who can bag a goal. Good player at championship level so it’s worth a punt

We do but perhaps the club sees Vydra as a two birds one stone kind of thing?

He hasn’t set this league alight on a previous attempt but was outstanding for Derby last season. He always strikes me as someone who has the ability to step up when I have seen him play though.

I’d be quite excited by him to be fair, would prefer Rodriguez but would be interested to see what Dyche could do with Vydra.

Leeds recently had an £11M offer accepted by Derby but failed to agree terms with the player

The Leeds chairman said afterwards that Vydra is a great player but the chairman was put off because the player didn't seem that enthusiastic about joining them

I didn't realise that Vydra had scored 22 goals in the Championship last season so maybe he can be used as has been said as either a number 10 or as a striker

I honestly think he would suit our system better than Rodriguez. He’s a proper number 10, what we have been shouting out for.

I wouldn’t pay him the 50k a week he was reportedly asking for from Leeds. However he’s a player I wouldn’t mind seeing us take a chance on, never made it at this level in the past but players do mature and hopefully this is his time to shine with the clarets?? A proper number ten type who does have goals in him! Still think another centre mid is needed however , unless this sees Hendrick revert back to his natural position...if so then a winger, striker and a keeper if I’m being greedy

I'd take him at this stage of the window. I hear he has two legs and a head which is good enough for me.

Derby fans on Twitter say he’s useless until he is played in the number 10 role where he is lethal, sounds right for us positionally.

Pretty armless signing then ;)

Just no good at throw ins.

Seem to recall him having a really good 6 month spell in the Prem for Watford a few seasons ago but has since faded. Wouldn't be too upset if we signed him as long as he were given a fair crack of the whip instead of being thrown on for 10 minutes here and there.

Sounds about right for us, and Derby need shut of him to balance the books having bought Marriott and Waghorn on the way too.

I know there aren't too many knowledgeable Derby fans about it seems, but there is one on a forum i look at
from time to time.. A Leeds fan asked him about Vydra

"It sounds strange to say about the league's top scorer ,but he's basically surplus to requirements ..
Rowett played a defensive 4231 with Vydra in the number 10 role where everything revolves on
creating chances for him ..
Lampard plays an attacking 433 with a high press, the no.9 has to lead the press and run his backside
off all game ..that's not Vydra, he can't play one of the wide roles either, we've tried that before, so basically
we want to cash in while his stock his high ! "

Always looked a decent finisher when I’ve seen him but I wouldn’t say he seemed to be a Dyche type player.

The comment above about him only being a number 10 doesn’t suggest much flexibility either. Although if he fills the number 10 effectively and links midfield, he could be what we need.

To be honest I’d like Vydra - was quality last year. Young enough to have multiple good years and sale potential.

I'd be quietly happy with this. Would be a big upgrade on Hendrick and I'm surprised he's only 26. Bargain for £10 million.

My only reservation is that I have this niggling doubt that if we sign Vydra, he could wind up being the type that Dyche barely uses and we never get to truly see him get settled.

I’m not sure what that’s based on as every player is different, but it’s a concern I have. I would, as agreenwood has said, prefer Rodriguez.
