Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
He bemoaned Burnley’s ‘long ball’ tactics and there was even a suggestion that the Clarets were happy to give the ball away to get back in their shape.

Sounds like many Premier managers over the past 2 seasons, the onus was on his team to break us down they couldn't do that.

Re: Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
Our ' success' last night was based on what we did without the ball rather than with it, of that there's no doubt. When we had a free kick on the left wing near the end of the game I fully expected the ball to be worked back to Hart so that we could regain our shape and eat up a few more precious seconds. Last thing we wanted then was being caught out by a counter-attack.pushpinpussy wrote:He bemoaned Burnley’s ‘long ball’ tactics and there was even a suggestion that the Clarets were happy to give the ball away to get back in their shape.

Re: Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
Wait well he comes up against the same tactic at ours - he won't know what the hell to do as the away team Ha ha!
'What are these English dogs playing at, we are supposed to be the away team, why are they inviting us to attack them, it must be a sneaky English pig trick.'
Up pops Wandering Walter (for tis he) to pop in the winner on the counter.
Cue furious Turkish fans (all 12 of them) to start a riot (of sorts) out of sheer frustration at the Burnley way.
Happy days and we're all off to Athens (assuming the Swiss don't overturn a 4-0 deficit).

But a lot of those Premier League managers are now beginning to praise us rather than whinge about it. One of the whingers is up against us in two days time.tiger76 wrote:Sounds like many Premier managers over the past 2 seasons, the onus was on his team to break us down they couldn't do that.

his talk after game is nothing special also not a criticism. Analyzing the game tactically, what Abdullah Avci does after any game. Sadly he is correct on his comments most of the time. Otherwise noone could explain how his cheap team finished the league over Besiktas last season...

I thought they missed Adebayor badly last night. They had so much ball around our box, if he was playing we would have been in deep trouble. I’m still pessimistic about next week, our chance would be if can somehow nullify Visca.

Re: Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
I read a lot of comments on BBC's HYS and so many people have blind digs at Burnley. Last night we were described as 'turgid' and 'a regular switch off during MoTD'. It used to rile me but it doesn't now. These experts and purists very rarely see football outside of Manchester or Liverpool and the like. In fact a good dose of what the beautiful game can be like, and of course, is for so many people up and down the country, would do them good.
There are those who rally round with defiant and defending comments, but I'm tired of explaining that we are evolving. Our game is changing. We are a work in progress and so many of the nay-sayers would swap places with us in a heartbeat.
Its a results based business. And we get results, even when down to the bare bones. ******** to them.

Our defence isn't though. It works so well when we are under the cosh. Midfield is and isn't there yet and it's a pity we didn't get a midfielder in during the window. Still it served us well last time out. Tougher this time being in this competition.
Re: Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
i mean if they catch you in a "defence did not take position yet" stance, they dont show mercy. they do good job at counter attacks.jtv wrote:Do you mean that they are weak defensively, or that they prefer to defend so that they can counter attack?
So...attacking teams like Besiktas are easier for them. Last night's Burnley was a nightmare for them

Re: Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
mrgomez ----that was the impression I got when watching last night. I think that they will be very dangerous on the counter attack when we play them at the Turf, however, that will depend just how we set up to play. It will be an interesting tactical battle, however, probably not very entertaining, which I can live with. There is much more to football than scoring a boat load of goals.

i would bet for another draw and extra time / penalties for the next game.
other then this who scores first will probably qualify

Re: Basaksehir boss Abdullah Avci take on our tactics
I think the knockers would do well to remember that Italy's (national team and clubs) most successful time over quite a long period was playing exactly the same way. Defences dominated and many weeks in Serie A saw no goals at all (a tad boring I'll admit) but it was very efficient and difficult to play against. If you went a goal down to Italy or an Italian club you might as well go home because that was pretty much it.
What annoys me is the purist, the people who think that everyone should play like Barcelona without having the players to do it. Football is about winning (or not losing as the case may be) and the players you have and injuries dictate that you can't always play pretty football. I worked years ago with an Arsenal fan who around that time were hugely successful but not very inspiring to watch a lot of the time and the guy used to say quite honestly 'I love my boring Arsenal'. And why not. Dyche is the man and he can play any bloody system he likes for me as long as we keep moving in the same direction (or even standing still for a while).
