Charlie Taylor
Came on late for Guddy on the left...
A sign of things to come or just filling in because we're light/extra defensive solidarity?

Re: Charlie Taylor
He also had Walters, so could have put Walters right and moved Lennon over to the left. I think it's SD slowly but surely considering him there.
Brady/Taylor for the left, JBG/Lennon for the right.

Re: Charlie Taylor
JBG has been subject to a significant number of very physical challenges already - and was certainly targeted in each of our European ties - the knock today won't help - Taylor was brought on to do an Arfield in my mind today though
Re: Charlie Taylor
I’m a big Taylor fan and I hope he gets more opportunities this season, he’s impressed me in the Europa games already.
I suspect today was just about making sure we went home with the point and keeping things tight though, not sure he’ll be used much a winger throughout the season.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Missing out on a wide man means we only have 2 fit wingers, so it's square pegs in round holes time.
Even when fit, I can't see Brady, Lennon and JBG capable of 35 starts a season.
It's going to be a case of "do a jobs" filling in for the Europa games and coming on in the last 15 mins of games until Brady and Defour are back.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Eyannoui was playing well for them down that side. JBG looked like he’d run out of legs. Obvious substitution on that side

Re: Charlie Taylor
As above. Short on options but also more brought on to close out the game while saving JBG who does pick up niggles. Good move. Although Taylors no winger.
Re: Charlie Taylor
Talking of wingers, why doesn’t Lennon hug the touch line more? He always seems to be drifting inside when we’re attacking. Still looks a bit low on confidence although I thought he played better overall today than in the games against Aberdeen and Istanbul.

Cos dyche doesn’t play his wingers like that.Carport wrote:Talking of wingers, why doesn’t Lennon hug the touch line more? He always seems to be drifting inside when we’re attacking. Re: Charlie Taylor
Hi cricketfield, I'm sure any of us would "pick up niggles" if we took the knocks that JBG took today. I thought he was very close to going off injured early in the 2nd half.cricketfieldclarets wrote:As above. Wasn’t JBG suffering from a stomach bug earlier in the week. Hence his poor display and early substitution in Istanbul?

Re: Charlie Taylor
I like Taylor, it's hard for him with Ward being such a stalwart for us, but hopefully he will get more game time this season, in whatever role SD decides to use him.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Good positive player. Always looking to play forward and the best crosser of the ball at the club. Absolutely no reason why he can't be coached to play left midfield 'as and when required'.

He was also given a surprisingly short break after the World Cup before coming back to Burnley!Wasn’t JBG suffering from a stomach bug earlier in the week. Hence his poor display and early substitution in Istanbul?
Re: Charlie Taylor
The more game time Taylor gets the better it'll be for him; whether that's at left back or left wing. He's got a bright future with us I'm sure.

Re: Charlie Taylor
not seen much of him but got to see him Thursday night and was impressed, good to see so many positions now where the so called #1 choice knows he has to be on his toes and can't coast in any game, the whole squad just keeps getting better and better slowly but surely. I for one think this is a much better way to do it rather than buying up to 11 players in a window, so many teams seems to do it and I used think, wow why can't we do that but most that have done it have ended up wanting to sell high earners a season or two later.
Looking forward to seeing him again Thursday night

Re: Charlie Taylor
I think Taylor was brought in for his height mostly. We were getting killed on their corners: they seemed to get into good spaces and direct headers towards our goal.
Ward is fantastic but everytime he gets knocked down, he seems to be getting up a little slower each time. Taylor has had enough experience that he is ready to fill in when needed.

Really poor performance, defensive positioning was woeful.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Thought he was ok first half but had a poor second - some wayward passing. Don’t think Ward helped though, never seemed keen to overlap when Taylor took up good positions in the inside channel.
It was the first time the two of them had played together though and at least it was a balanced flank, they still did an effective job defensively and dug in, as they all did.

Re: Charlie Taylor
He certainly struggled tonight but a classy side like them shouldn't be used as a template for what he has to offer. He's having to fill in,'do a job' and if our run in this competition continues then I expect to see much of the same.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Unfortunately he was out of his comfort zone tonight and consequently out of his depth in that position.
It's all good experience for him in the build up to his eventual replacement of Ward. Too one-footed at the
moment as well, but hopefully that will change with experience and confidence.

Re: Charlie Taylor
There were a few on here not that long ago asking questions about Tark’s when he started to get a game and if he was the real deal. That was quickly put to bed. It’s the same with Charlie Taylor, he’s a top player and he is settling in nicely....
Re: Charlie Taylor
Danny Fox played left midfield for us once didn't he? away at Fulham, think we got beat 4-0.

Re: Charlie Taylor
He tried covering Taylor too much last night and going back to his natural position.
Both Ward and Taylor struggled but they played very well and had wingers hugging the touchline which we struggle with.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Taylor did OK and to be fair JBG faired no better.
I thought Taylors crossing was very poor, although I like the way he plays on the front foot

Re: Charlie Taylor
He did ok but he showed up our lack of cover on the wings. We need Brady back obviously but we should have brought in a replacement for Arfield in the summer. We need to see Taylor playing in his natural position not as a makeshift winger or centre half. I feel for the lad because he struggles for game time and then gets played out of position!

He's playing LM on paper, I should imagine he's there to strengthen the defence.CoolClaret wrote:Playing again tonight at LM, let's see what happens....
We'll be happy with a 0-0, if we can pinch a goal even better.
