Heaton - 7 - Solid

Bardsley - 7 - Did well defensively and won the ball back well but has less of an attacking threat than Lowton
Mee - 8 - Back to his best
Long - 7 - Reliable as ever
Taylor - 7 - Did really well defensively but maybe needs to put in the cross early more often

Lennon - 6 - Ran well but needs the confidence to shoot and he just struggles with end product. But link up play was good
Westwood - 8 - Massive fan of Ash. Always wants the ball and some of the through balls he plays to the front men are delightful but just the odd time he gets caught holding onto the ball too long
Hendrick - 9* - Best player this season by far and looks so good in CM. Confidence is flowing and he's winning the ball and being productive with it. I was often patient with Hendrick last year but I was beginning to lose it but now he's playing deeper he seems a new man
McNeil - 9 - What a way to start his career. I've never seen a Burnley player put so much curve on crosses consistently for so long. Created golden chances and confidence was growing. I'd have him starting vs Utd

Vokes - 6 - I think its -2 for the two golden headers in the first half but hold up play was excellent and ran his socks off. Could've got 3
Barnes - 7 - Worked his socks off

Vydra - 7 - Carried the ball well and looked decent considering it's his first game

Play like that every week and we'll do just fine. Just wasn't our night. Proud none the less and hopefully we can just look at all the positives from this performance. UTC

Heaton 6 had zero to do, picked the ball from his net
Bardsley 6
Long 6 easy to look at the goal and say dived in, however did ok in what was the easiest of defensive nights he'll ever have
Mee 7
Taylor 7
Lennon 7 panics in the box it seems, he's some confidence of being a regular game changer
Hendrick 7 his best game in a while, and would you believe it, in his natural role.
Westwood 6 sloppy at times, ok at retaining it, but offers little going forward. Maybe Cork was better option to start
McNeil 8 what a full debut, should have had 1 or 2 assists and posdibly a goal. Futures bright.
Vokes 5 judging him on his job, 2 sitters missed and even the link up play looked off the pace
Barnes 6

Vydra 6
Cork 5 gave away ball for goal, had to mark him down

We gave the ball away far too cheaply, far too often
But a decent enough display, we play like that and well get points sooner rather than later

Heaton 8 distribution and positioning was great
Bardsley 8 again excellent. Tough in the tackle. Touch excellent. Got forward well. Couple of sloppy balls but overall great.
Taylor 6 Wards been poor so far. But taylor didnt do enough to take the shirt for me tonight.
Long 6 positioning and passing is sometimes a bit suspect. Fine backup though.
Mee 7 back to his oldself.
Lennon 8 thought he took the game to them. Made two ultimately costly poor passes though when shot was better option.
McNeil 10. Ok its not a 10 out of 10 by normal standards. Probabky an 8. But for his first full start at 18 years old against olympiakos in the europa leagur that was special. Dont want to expect too much too soon. But his confidence. Awareness. Skill and most importantly delivery was superb. Fantastic performance. Very impressed and pleased.
Hendrick 9. Fantastic. Much better in that role. Carried it well. Got stuck in. Just a shame he dithered on the shot early on. Felt he could have gone first time.
Westwood 8 passing was really good. Got back and forth well. Played a clever foul too the sort we dont usually make.
Barnes 7 not quite as good as last week but we always look better with him on the pitch.
Vokes 7 was a real handful. On another night he has 3 and its 10 out of 10. Missed two headers youd expect him to bury though.

Overall we were superb. Absolutely fantastic. Shame to lose. But last week was too much to make up ultimately.

Long 7
Taylor 8
Westwood 9 excellent all night
Hendrick 9 excellent
McNeil 8 great after nervy start
Lennon 6. Has to put his laces through it
Vokes 8 first chance was his only bad miss. Unlucky with the one off the post. Never lost a header all game
Barnes 7

Vydra 7. Has to score before they do

Got to balance the scores, 8 and 9's for players that didn't do their jobs . You've got to think what can you score if we'd have won 3-0, then yes 8's and 9's are reasonable, but a draw, when we've not quite donr the job doesn't reflect the performance IMO.
Think you need to read what each score means before grading. There's not many tonight who can say they were " excellent " IMO.

From watching on BT Sport due to being ill all day

Gutted to be honest, as we created more than enough to win and we've only ourselves to blame that we didn't take them. But lots and lots of positives, namely Hendrick and McNeil.

Heaton 7 - so little to do but commanded his area well
Bardsley 7 - solid
Long 7 - solid
Mee 7 - solid
Taylor 7 - good at getting forward
Lennon 7 - did well, but he's got to shoot when he had that chance
Hendrick 9* - Brilliant, completely dominated midfield
Westwood 8 - Good, but he was under no pressure at all. Could he do that under pressure? Not sure
McNeil 9 - outstanding for his full debut, but rightly taken off as he'd run out of gas
Vokes 7 - physically won everything but he's the main culprit to why we haven't gone through
Barnes 7 - good

Subs
Vydra 6 - scored
Cork 6
Wood 6

We should have buried them by half time and I'm gutted.

Thought we were much the better team and should have won the game easily. However Ultimately we lost to a poor team over 2 legs.

Thought a lot of our players were average in terms of distribution tonight. Bardsley for example gave the ball away too many times in the first half as did others. We didn't move the ball quick enough at times. I marked as I saw it. 7 for a few good performances, 6 for average. Only one 5 for Cork due to error for their goal. Overall as a team performance was good. Individually there were few stand outs. I nearly rated McNeil as 8 but he lost the ball a couple of times in dangerous positions. Looks a promising player though. Much better team performance tonight though. Best full 90 we have put together so far this season.

Yes you're correct, you can score a player 8 or 9 if we win, regardless of how well they played. That's how it works isn't it?

Yeah you're correct, however what happens when you give a player a 9 for doing ok,, yet then next he scores a brace, where do you go from a 9?
I score players on their job, and the performance.
I don't score on the result, however dependant on their job, e.g. if a winger scored or assisted 2 in a game, he should be a mandatory 8, turning up and running about doesn't warrant an 8 IMO.
I don't think any player was a 9 tonight, maybe 1 possibly an 8 dependant how thick your gigs are.

Heaton 7 Apart from a couple of fairly standard stops/saves all he had to do was punt it upfield and, sadly pick the ball our of the net.
Bardsley 7 Put himself around and about and didn't let us down apart from a few poor balls.
Long 7 Thought he had a good game overall apart from the occasional poor pass. Committed himself a touch too early with their goal.
Mee 7 Looks assured and won a few in the penalty area.
Lennon 7 He did try throughout, but is at times lightweight and should have shot when he was clear through rather than pass.
McNeil 7 For a first start thought he did well and put in some good crosses. One great shot too. Maybe given it was his first start he deserved a touch more so shall up him up to an 8.
Hendrick 8 Probably our best player overall and he seems to have found his role and best position. Would love to see him going forward more often
and with a bit more pace.
Westwood 7 Overall a good performance and got up and down the pitch well.
Barnes 6 He does put himself about but not quite at his best for me tonight.
Vokes 7 Oh, if only those two first half headers had have gone in then it would have been a 9.
Thought the first one had and second came at him at some pace. Superb shot in the second half. Deserved a goal for that alone.

Overall more than a decent performance especially given we'd left a goodly number on the bench.
We really tried and it was good to hear the Turf Moor crowd behind the team. McNeil made more than a decent start
and nobody let us down. Alas it wasn't enough but we were unlucky not to score a few more.
We needed a performance like that and it should put us in good stead for our return to the League
although I fear Man U will be a different proposition on Sunday.
Hopefully we can put in a similar performance and come away with a result.
Got some tough games coming up.

Heaton 7 - a spectator for most of the night. We look a better unit with him back in.
Bardsley 7 - looked to make things happen quickly. Shame he doesn't have the quality to put a decent ball in though.
Long 7 - he's becoming a dependable player
Mee 7 - solid but some sloppy distribution
Taylor 7 - a constant out ball. His best game this season.
Lennon 6 - so frustrating. He comes too deep and doesn't take his man on enough
Hendrick 8 - our best player this season so far.
Westwood 7 - kept things ticking over. Took a yellow for the team.
McNeil 7 - very impressive debut.
Vokes 7 - what could have been. He should be getting scored a 10 tonight for scoring the hat trick to take us through!
Barnes 5 - silly booking, silly diving, silly arguing with the officials. Not a good night for him.

Vydra 6 - looks like he has a nice touch and a turn of pace
Cork 5 - from hero vs Aberdeen and Istanbul to villain tonight. Totally at fault for their goal, why he turned I don't know. Very unlike Jack.

Frustrating really as it was a game we should have won at a canter but not to be.
If Burnley were not bothered about going through to the group stages the players certainly didn’t get the memo.

Vokes 3. Really. He missed one sitter, one goodish chance and hit the post from less than half a chance whilst dominating the defence all night.

Heart wants to give them all 8s and 9s for the effort they put in. That was a Burnley performance, one that we haven’t seen enough of this season so far, but ultimately we drew and went out.

Heaton 7 Did everything he needed to and well
Bardsley 7 defends well but not quite the attacking outlet we needed tonight
Taylor 7 defended well, got forward,
Long 7 a little suspect in possession but equally some good defending too
Mee 7
Lennon 7 Tried to get at them positively, tracked back
McNeil 8 very good debut by the young man.
Hendrick 8 MoM
Westwood 7
Vokes 7 I thought he was excellent, dominant in the air, linked up well but ultimately he didn’t take either of those crucial chances
Barnes 5 I actually thought he offered next to nothing and if it wasn’t for his effort in the second half and a couple of better touches I’d have had him lower.

Well that performance has restored faith - what a shame we couldn't put some of those chances away.

Same poster gave Bardsley 5 too and I thought he was good tonight

A generally dominant performance but with some hairy moments defensively, not least for their killer goal when we gave the ball away cheaply then Long naively slid in and a simple trick beat him. We didn’t create enough second half (though did first half), Bardsley and Lennon down that side were very wasteful. Vokes was woeful in his finishing.

On the positive, McNeill was excellent and I would always play a young winger ahead of a full back on the wing. Hendrick was outstanding. Westwood better than last week.

Obviously, disappointingly and predictably it was close to a reserve team again - choosing to leave out the keeper, three members of the back four, midfielder and best striker (the latter more debatable due to bad form). I have no doubts that the full side would have progressed against this poor opposition.

I am devastated to be out of a competition I have waited decades for, never thought would come, and probably will not again. At least I went to Athens, which after hardly missing a game for 30 years I wasn’t going to miss now. I make no apologies for sticking to my earlier view - if we are to prioritise mid table survival over a major trophy and lifetime memories that means that the manager has to my surprise set himself a low bar, not what I want for my efforts watching the Clarets. He was Sir Sean in my eyes last May. I was giving him a last chance to do the right thing tonight, but sadly now, I’ve changed my mind and I think he has taken us as far as he can.

Before anyone criticises my harshness, stop to consider whether you are allowing standards to be set too low. Tossing away places in major European trophies shouldn’t be accepted if we want our club to be the best it can be.

Im inclined to agree that priority should be competing on all fronts. And everything a cup run brings. But ultimately tonight we arent out because of lack of effort or desire. Just rank bad luck.

Tarks, Lowton and probably Hart shouldve started last week. The lack of signings, the injuries and Gibsons red didnt help either.

But we did more than enough tonight to win the tie. I genuinely believe we went for it.

Lets hope we get a favourable cup run. Burtons a good draw for starters.

Heaton 7 - had little to do
Bardsley 7 - always looks 1 tackle away from a red card. Was hard in the tackle tonight and his experience showed
Long 6
Mee 7
Taylor 8 - best game for Burnley
Lennon 7 - much better, just wish he could find space and run at players
Hendrick 8 - MOM
Westwood 7 - does what he does well
McNeil 8 - almost want to give him a 10. Really hope we can give him some time and fans support
Vokes 6. - gutted for him tonight
Barnes 6- wasn’t his night

Vydra 7- looked to bring pace and movement

I watch the players practicing shooting before the game, please please just take the shot when it’s there.

So are you calling for Dyche to be sacked as he’s “taken us as far as he can”?

10 mins in and finally I saw last seasons Burnley back. Hopefully the fight and principles in our play are back.

Heaton - 7 safe hands, top distribution and no chance with the goal

Bardsley - 7 a couple errors but overall he was good, got forward well and generally dealt with their best player ok

Long - 7 solid

Mee - 7 also solid

Taylor - 7 offering more than ward at present, especially going forward

Westwood - 7 very good, two or three excellent balls in behind that we might have done better with

Hendrick - 9 he absolutely ran the game in midfield until he was shifted to right back, fantastic performance and bang in form right now

Lennon - 7 seemed to get a few groans when he didn't shoot in the second half but the pass was the right decision - he'd have been too off balance to get a decent shot away. Other than that, he had a cracking game and his defensive work was superb

McNeil - 8 now that's how you make your full debut. An understandably shaky start gave way to a performance that was full of intelligence and confidence. For a lad his age to have the balls to have pop from distance like he did, you don't often see our senior pros do that. Tired later on but a wonderful - and surprising - showing.

Vokes - 7 should really have had 2 and then was so unlucky with the one that hit the post. Those aside though, he was a colossus up top and has to start on Sunday.

Barnes - 5 another who should really have had a goal. Booking was sheer idiocy.

Vydra - 6 promising cameo, he occupies that space in the box where we never seem to have anyone.

Mixed feelings after that. Gutted that we're out. Proud that we were even here in the first place. Gutted that we didn't go with our strongest team in every game. Proud of the players that put in a hell of a performance tonight.

One of those days when nothing would quite drop right for us and it's so disappointing because we should probably be talking about a 4 nil win rather than a 1-1. This was a performance that was full of heart, endeavour and no little skill but it was laced with that sloppiness that comes with not playing together every game. Our success under dyche has been built on consistent selection, it gives us that sharpness where the players know each other's games inside out. Disappointing that he's moved away from that, for whatever reason, as this could have been a season to remember.

It still can be though, of course. The aim now has to be to finish as high as posdible and hopefully get back into this competition next season. It's a tall order, just as it was last season but it's not impossible. We've hardly got started in europe and I want more of it.
