Got a nervous first 5 minutes out of his system and then really looked the part first half.

They have doubled up on him now. Just needs a bit more support when he gets the ball. Both strikers just run to the box.
Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Doing well. Good delivery on Fks too.
Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Reading the BBC Live Text (only option) and he's getting praised on there for his crosses.
We need to be measured but it's good to hear one of our lads is playing well/

Absolutely superb tonight for a first start. Shows our system of picking up players from bigger clubs released is working. Hopefully many more to come through

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
But he is from the youth and sadly at present our only option out wide as Taylor is a square peg in a round hole when played there. He ran at defenders, tried to thread balls through and got some decent crosses in. He outshone our other fit winger who has probably upwards of 20 England caps.
He is one for the future. Yes he made mistakes and yes against UTD we would be punished more. But these werent UTD and today he gave us a different option

Excellent debut from the lad. Not sure what game the above poster was watching.

Can't find any pundit agreeing with the Dyched look at me post. An impressive debut for an 18 yr. old and his cross under pressure for Sam's first header was better than anything Lennon put across.

I’m assuming Dyched was the only one on his arse whilst everyone else was on their feet applauding him off when he was subbed then

Yes, impressive debut. Sure, he had the odd mistake in him but he wasn't the only one. Plenty of positive play from him and he's only 18!
Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
McNeil was great today, thrown in at the deep end - just a 3-1 deficit in the Europa league to overturn. Diddnt look phased at all, showed a couple of inexperienced moments but overall was great. One of our own. Big future.

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Compared to Lennon on the other wing, he created far more
Lennon has played over 60 times in Europe
The lad did exceptionally well
Lennon has played over 60 times in Europe
The lad did exceptionally well
Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Just saying it how it is. No need to pussyfoot around these things. Gave it away needlessly at times. Fair play to the lad a few good corners, great strike at goal. But standimg ovation? Come onCoolClaret wrote:Jesus, he was a bit naive to start but grew into it and was our dangerman.

Fantastic
Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
The young man can only grow in confidence from a fantastic debut, against a European team of proven pedigree. I’m sure he’ll be buzzing even though it wasn’t the result we wanted.
Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Just to add, he’s not even 19 until November.
Despite going out, I hope he’s absolutely buzzing tonight - he may well have played his way into the team to play United!

Laughable. Looked an absolute talent and was at the heart of our everything positive we did for the time he was on the pitch.
He's 18, It was his DEBUT.

I couldn’t care less if it’s his 1st or 1000th appearance. The performance is what it is. Does it mean he didnt needlessly give the ball away time and time again because it was his debut? Or that he was more dangerous than Lennon (who was far more btw) because he’s got England caps and Mcneil hasn’t.Braindead wrote:I'm in danger of getting another ban.

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
He had a very good game. He's 18, he's bound to make mistakes as he did tonight but he will bounce back from them. Dont forget he was thrown into a Europa League match against a team who play regular champions league football. He has a peach of a left foot on him. I'd much rather have him on the bench as a midfield option rather than 4 defenders.
Well played Dwight. Ignore the haters and continue to do what you are doing.

It takes courage to try things that don’t come off and try them again, keep wanting the ball and keep wanting to pass forward. Very very impressive debut young fella!!

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
10 out of 10 for me all considered. With an extra 2 for the fact hes 18, his first start, in the europa league against olympiakos.
He was positive, direct, had a wicked delivery, was confident, wanted to take every set piece, almost scored an excellent goal and but for vokes finishing could have had several assists. On his debut.
He was pheonomenal all things considered imo.

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Or? Both of Vokes' headers were from his crosses, which on any other day results in two assists, he took all the free kicks anď corners, showed great technique in having a 25 yarder tipped over and made at least two crossfield passes out wide to feet, won at least two corners.Dyched wrote:I couldn’t care less if it’s his 1st or 1000th appearance. Oh and he's 18, playing against a Champions league regular side, on his debut.

He looked nervous for the first 10 minutes but grew into the game and looked very much like he belongs at this level. He's a terrific prospect and given our injury worries he could have played his way into the starting 11 on Sunday.

Again it doesnt matter if he’s 18.Braindead wrote:Or? That shot was very good effort. Hiw about that quick freekick where Hendrick was put through? The ball broke free from Barnes and he pussied out of swinging his boot at it. Gave the ball away whilst playing simple passes, some whilst not even looking I may add. He did ok. But lets make it outdtanding becuase he’s 18 and from the youth team. I suppose Jay Rod gets a 10 for tonight too

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
MOM performance; was a fundamental part in our control of the game and the momentum gained; such a shame we couldnt have got that first goal at any point before theirs; it would have been a completely different game. An 18 year old playing in his first competitive game on that occassion; superb! Let's hope he is given some more time to build his confidence; grew into the game wonderfully and showed a real threat from both open play and dead balls; an opening is there for a star to be born; what a sweet left foot he has; love watching those natural left footers whip and slide balls in.

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
The most positive thing about tonight was his performance for me. We don't get many coming through the youth ranks, and to see an 18 year old at home on the pitch against Olympiakos is so good to see. He's confident on the ball and has an excellent delivery, can't wait to see how he'll progress. A strange evening, so much to be proud of but when it came to the final third we just couldn't make it count.
I feel a lot better than I did when the final whistle blew against Fulham though

I hope Dyched never has to train anybody in any field whatsoever. He'd make the poor sod top himself after 10 minutes.
You encourage young lads. They WILL make mistakes but all players do. But you develop them.
Michael Duff has worked a lot with this lad and I think he will be pleased with Dwight's performance tonight.

Re: Dwight McNeil starts tonight
Best youth team player debut in my lifetime, without even a shadow of a doubt (and I’m 31).
He made a couple of errors, but they are totally nixed when we talk about some absolutely exceptional balls into the box both from open play and set pieces, some great cross field passes and alround tidy work down the left flank. He never shirked his responsibilities going backwards either and got his foot in to win some throws and corners.
Let’s remember, he’s 18, playing against Olympiakos in a pressured game, and playing in front of an inexperienced left back who wasn’t having a good night himself. All things considered, the lad was a 9/10 and should definitely start on Sunday. I haven’t been as excited by a prospect since Rodriguez, a really truly special player in the offing and the standing ovation from all four sides of the crowd followed by the pat on the back from SD are the least he deserved.
Great job Dwight!

A standing ovation from all 4 sides of the turf and chants of "he's one of our own" from us in the CFS. He can go home with a sense of total pride as I'm absolutely sure he will.
