Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
Should we risk Defour for the first 45 mins on Saturday? We could play him in a midfield 3 with Westwood sitting in front of the back four.
...........Back four
...........Westwood
JBG Defour Cork McNeil
Too soon after a lengthy layoff OR worth risking because we desperately need his quality in central midfield?

Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
No, simple answer is that it is a long season and we need him fit and properly fit for the campaign and not just a one off 45 minutes that would hinder his recovery.

Not yet.
We would have been top 6 last season without the injury to him and Brady but he needs to be fully fit when he comes back

Jesus, no.
The last thing we should be doing with him is to "risk" anything connected with
the situation. Could set him back months if it went pear shaped.
Leave it to the boss and medical staff.

Exactly, sports scientists make these decisions now.ElectroClaret wrote:Jesus, no.

Which Saturday are you suggesting? One in February looks realistic.
Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
Impossible to answer as we don’t have accurate knowledge about his current fitness.

Yes, because one win against Bournemouth will mean we are safe even if he misses the rest of the season as a result

I'd be looking to get him back in for the Cardiff and Huddersfield games. Those two are huge games and he'd give us a massive boost if he were fit.

I'd put him on the bench even if we have no plan of playing him, just to give everyone a boost.

Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
He is critical to our success. But no way would I risk him this weekend. Maybe bring him on the bench as a confidence boost for the players and fans. But no. Bring him off the bench against Cardiff. MAYBE even Burton.
To be honest its a travesty we are so reliant on such an injury prone player even now.

No.
An hour in an U23 match is a long way from 45mins against an all action Bournemouth.

Despite our poor start and their good start. We should have more than enough to be beating Bournemouth!

I can guarantee you that even if his rehab was completed in Belgium that was with cooperation and oversight from the BFC medical teamclaretblue wrote:it appears that all his rehabilitation has taken place in Belgium and not under the supervision of Burnleys medical/sports scientists

Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
The fact that you've had to use the word 'risk' should answer that question. If Defour isn't fully fit then of course he shouldn't play. None of us know when he will be fully fit though so I fail to see how anyone can suggest a fixture for his return.

No.
Between them, he Dyche and the medics will know what he is capable of. It's just nice to see him on a pitch and kicking a ball.

Sorry mate but you are not the first to suggest this. Now if Dyche thinks that dropping most of the first team for Europe is right why would he risk a half-fit Defour in the League Cup?1914tyrone wrote:He will not be far away this has not been a big injury come back.

Oh, that's alright then, highly paid professional footballers playing like it doesn't matter? If I went to work and performed like it didn't matter my employers would quite possibly think 'well neither does your job then, here's a warning'.Spijed wrote:And considering we played like it didn't matter...

And if your performance at work was based over a 9 month period and you ended the last one 7th best in the country you would probably think your employers were dicks if they began crying at things you were doing after just over a month of the following period

But I don't perform in front of an audience paying hard earned money to be entertained. There's the difference.
Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
Yeah not yet. Obviously I want him back ASAP but we have to let the rehab run its full course in order to give us the best chance of not losing him to injury soon.

Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
The U23 is a competitive league, what’s the difference in playing that and the league cup. I see no difference in risk, just the benefit of gaining fitness. We don’t treat either cup too seriouslyhouseboy wrote:Sorry mate but you are not the first to suggest this. Yep thats them.houseboy wrote:This IS the same Bournemouth that beat us at home in May is it? Or is there another one?
No reason we couldnt or shouldnt beat them, especially at home.
Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
I find it staggering that anyone could think a team which was nowhere near us all last season, should now beat us at Turf Moor; on the basis of five games.
Our slow start is a combination of a hectic Europe program (Thurs/Sun) and a resultant dip in confidence/belief. The only game we really threw one in was Fulham away and that, I think, was after our trip to Greece.
As soon as we win one we'll get going, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be this Saturday.
And no, we shouldn't risk Defour yet, we have very capable players throughout the team, and when he and Brady are back we'll be fine.

If you want to go back further we destroyed them at Bournemouth last season. Form is temporary and all that.....

Agree with this but would suggest the main poor “throw one ins” were Fulham and WolvesGuich wrote:I find it staggering that anyone could think a team which was nowhere near us all last season, should now beat us at Turf Moor; on the basis of five games.

With a fully fit Defour and Brady firing on all cylinders. Without those two we are short of creativity it's untrue.Hibsclaret wrote:Exactly.

Re: Should we risk Defour on Saturday?
Dyche will want to give Defour at least one more run out for the U23's
before considering him.
At best he might be on the bench at Burton and come on for the last 20 mins or so.
Then he'll have to decide whether he's up for the Cardiff game but will not want to take any risks
so may leave him on the bench.
T'would be great if he could come on during the Cardiff game and make the difference
by scoring the winner!
Wishful thinking, no doubt. But we need a bit of a boost.
