Are the once mighty Lancashire as good as relegated? Yorkshire over 300 in front with 5 wickets remaining and both away next week Hampshire and Worcestershire respectively.

Rain might thwart Yorkshire's victory charge tomorrow, but it will only delay the inevitable.

Can't see a positive result in the Yorks game tomorrow looking at the weather so anything could happen in the last games but even if Lancs win their last game at Hants and all around them are beaten they will still be points short.

Somerset v Surrey is called off and the match drawn.

Yorkshire game no play before lunch and looking at the weather not much chance of any play this side of supper.

Sour grapes yes but I am not sure the 2 league format is working. It was supposed to help the England team but not many of the top 3 play for the test side

Problem with 2 divisions is that T20 intervened.

2 divisions works fine provided it is obvious that the primary competition is the one that is split into two divisions. If that's the case, you retain a financial and cricketing incentive for talent to concentrate in the top division, which is what happened for a period after the championship was split into two divisions, increasing the standard in the top division and bringing it much closer to test level.

But the Championship isn't the primary competition now, either from a cash or cricketing perspective. T20 is. So talent is now spreading across the two divisions again, and that which is found in teams who know they are "stuck" in division two is being focused on T20. So not only is the standard of Division 1 being reduced, the talent pool for test cricket is being reduced by the fact there are generally at least 4 or 5 counties who don't regard Championship cricket as particularly important to their business model.

Haven’t they voted to change the structure again?
So next year it’s three up and one down?

No sour grapes from me. Lancashire are in the bottom league because they absolutely deserve to be.

Well we have just been relegated from the Championship barring a major miracle as Yorks have decided to pack in their game and opt for a draw.

I always thought three divisions of six would be better for the Championship. Ten games a season means more time to fit the white ball competitions in.

Although, as Ty said, T20 taking over probably means that it still wouldn't work from a competitive point of view.
