Our Disciplinary Record

Post by careyclaret » Sun Nov 04, 2018 4:20 pm

One of SD's many accomplishments over the last 6 years has been our disciplinary record.

This season we have the second worst yellow card record in the Premier League with 26 cards. Only WHU have a worse record.

I think this is a further indicator that something is 'off' this season. A lot of the cards have been really silly ones like Barnes yesterday.

Thoughts?

Possibly the bulk of our cards are down to the fact that we're not playing well and we're playing under pressure and this is frustrating the players, resulting in rash tackles, back-chat to the ref etc.

They're all trying to get themselves sent off because they all hate Dyche.

you get bookings when you chase shadows

Do people on the Board think we are as fit as previous seasons-this can be a reason. For example Defours lunge at the WHU winger yesterday

We have previously enjoyed a reputation of high fitness, high energy and battling team work. Few of the media talk about this now

I wonder if pre-season was affected by playing in the Europa Cup with SD using this as part of getting fit. We are now letting lots of goals in the last 30 minutes, whereas previous we would stage comebacks in this period. I think the bookings are down to desperation and now being second to the ball

Fitness could be it, but I think it has something to do with frustration and a state of mind too. I don't think it is because we are chasing shadows, we were doing that in SD's first season in the PL but didn't have this problem.

Pre-season was definitely affected by playing extra games in August plus travelling to Istanbul and Athens. With sports science element involved I can't see how SD would have used this as part of getting fit as only 11 players at one time would be involved.

Is this just another attempt at finding SD at fault for the poor start?

Are we a victim of our own success?

Is SD an idiot for not finishing 8th instead of 7th last season?

...............or maybe, as predicted. the rest of the PL has caught up to our fitness levels which just leaves ability or lack thereof

or the recruitment wasn't good enough or is it the injuries or the transfer window finishing early or Joe Hart?

When we don’t get many cards people suggest we are not getting stuck in enough and when we do it’s then used against us.

For what it’s worth I think we’ve been a bit hard done to this season with cards. Not yesterday but definitely over the season.

Don’t agree with that at all.

I'm sure some would argue that we had a far better disciplinary record because we were doing quite well and not in any danger of going down.
The pressure is on but I'm sure we will be ok.

Fitness needs to be rewarded by success. Otherwise those lung bursting runs hurt and seem pointless.

Or maybe the rest of the PL knows exactly what we're going to do before hand because we rarely ever change it. So they plan ahead, and we do the same old same old.
