ENGLAND... and I'm dead proud I was born in a country I had no say in, and I feel totally superior to anyone who wasn't born in this country, that they had no say in too!

It's weird how so much of people's identity is based on being born on a certain bit of rock.

Not really irrelevant.HiroshimaClaret wrote:Irrelevant to the question.
I interpret the question as being, 'where do you identify yourself as being from?'
I have a British passport, therefore I am British. Much like a Frenchman has a French passport and a German has a German passport etc.
Why have you got an English passport?
I fought in the British Army, not an English Army.
I also love being British because it confuses foreigners, especially Yanks.

I once flew on English Airways to the English Virgin Islands.
Whilst there, I had my English passport stolen, so I reported it to the Police.
Ah, you are English, so what you need to do is find an English Embassy, they will help you get a new one.
Believe me, I was knackered.

I thought I lived in the same country that I was born in but now I'm not so sure. Where I live now the response to my Lancashire accent is:

Confusingly, or not. I live in the UK. More specifically, I live in Northern Ireland, which as part of Northern Ireland and Great Britain forms the UK. It is on the island of Ireland, which along with Britain forms the British Isles. But I'm an Irish citizen.

I am country fluid, I don't wish to be known as from the same country as I was born.
I was born in England, now I see myself as someone from everywhere

Re: What country do you live in?
I don't see why some people are confused by this. The question was what country you live in not your nationality. I am British living in the UK but I would still be British if I lived in Spain. And if I did live in Spain then the answer to this question would be Spain not I am British.

Re: What country do you live in?
Oh, how we like to complicate things. It is such a simple question - What country do you live in?
Not, where were you born?
Not, what is your nationality?
Not, where would you like to live?
Not, what colour is your passport?
I'm guessing snapcrackleandpop wishes he'd never asked.

Yet you can`t answer a simple question posed in your mother tongue!?
Re: What country do you live in?
Well country fluid, how do you get your bearings, G.P.S. or the Ordinance Survey? Drive on roads, or cycle through hedges? Buy from Supermarkets or eat Zebra droppings? Celebrate Christmas or worship the wiping of your ass with sand?

Hiroshima, I did. I said I am British, I live in Britain.HiroshimaClaret wrote:Yet you can`t answer a simple question posed in your mother tongue!?
Now it depends on how you define a country.
Britain = no capital, but England does have.
Britain doesn't have a parliament, but neither does England.
So go on educate me, why is England a country when it doesn't even have a parliament?
Assuming you agree with this definition of a country;
"a nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory."
Plus; why are you only picking on me? I would have thought answers such as Settle and Yorkshire deserve as much ridicule as 'Britain'.

Settle and Yorkshire - clearly meant and taken in jest.

So is England a Country despite it not having a Government?
Or should you be ridiculing people who have answered England?
and how do you know Britain wasn't said in jest?

Re: What country do you live in?
The question was simple - what country do you live in.
The answer 'I am British' does not answer the question.
If I lived in Australia then the correct answer to the question that was asked would be 'Australia' not 'I am British'.
