Seriously though it should be a ban/fine for him. Never mind the passion, if a fan had done that he would be facing a ban.

At the very most - he should be given a warning about his future conduct.
You know what, though? We are in danger of sanitising football to the extent of where the so-called 'match day experience' becomes utterly dull and tedious.

I like him, and his passion. Clearly running on the pitch was a mistake, but it would be funny if Dyche did that on Wednesday in similar circs with Barnes nodding home. He will prob get a fine and that will be that.

I agree with Billy Balfour. He has to be officially "told off" and reminded not to do that again. Hardly a major crime though in comparison to diving/play acting; financial skulduggery; FIFA corruption; agents' creaming money, etc etc.
I think his "passion" is genuine- not something he does "for the cameras". Little smack on the wrist does the trick.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment Billy we cant have managers charging across the pitch when a goal is scored. As for a future conduct rap you are giving precedent for the other 19 managers to do it al least once. Also I get the impression if Klopp was on the receiving end he would be the first to complain. Not keen on him me find him a bit false and in reality he is a right nasty ******* when things aren't going his way.Billy Balfour wrote:At the very most - he should be given a warning about his future conduct.

Nothing to do with passion... You cannot allow managers to run on the pitch celebrating goals let alone last minute winners in derby matches. As for the game becoming sanitised ...in the good old days before football did become sanitised this would not have been allowed.

One thing it brought out was Neil Warnocks hypocrisy.
He refused to shake hands with Nuno Santo after he ran on to celebrate Wolves victory v Cardiff , calling him disgraceful and showing a lack of class , yet he thinks Jurgon Klopps actions were Lovely !

Re: KLOPP.........Ban him or praise his passion ?
So...if we Burnley scored a 96th minute winner v Blackburn and our manager ran on the pitch to celebrate would any of us want action taken against him or would he gain legendary status with the fans ?
Klopp has apologised and tried to explain that it was just one of things where he was in the moment - he apologised straight away to Silva. It should be just left at that.
I can't remember SAF and Brian Kidd being done for running onto the pitch when they beat Sheffield Wednesday...neither can I recall SAF apologising to anyone (ever about anything !!).
Yes Mourinho would be castigated now if he did it - that`s simply because he is a nasty piece of work nobody likes anymore. Again when he ran down the line at Old Trafford when Porto got the winner my memory is that lots of people thought that was great (other than United fans !) and that was because people did not really know him then and it was good to see somebody showing this amount of passion.
It was exceptional circumstances yesterday and a "one-off" type reaction - if it starts happening every week then yes ban them.
Also not sure how this can be compared to a fan running on the pitch.

Both.
Great to see a Manager caught up in the euphoria of a winning goal but rules apply to all so it's a big fine and a minimum 3 game ban for me.
Let's not forget what happens to a fan 'caught up in the moment' because they have no defence whatsoever.

I honestly cannot see what the fuss is about. He is a character and the game is getting seriously short of them. He is passionate and there is nothing wrong with that. As for running on the pitch it is nothing at all like a fan doing it. You don't know what a fan is going to do but a manager is hardly going to run on and assault anyone is he?
Klopp is great fun and contrary to what we always say about Germans he has a wonderful sense of humour.
He ain't a bad manager either being the best at Liverpool in many a long year. He shouldn't even have to apologise in my opinion.

Yes we don't want anyone to show any passion, respectful applause please and don't dare leave before you have clapped the players of the pitch at the end regardless of the result, keep your opinions to yourself too!. Those sensitive millionaire footballers and managers deserve our respect, we might work 40 hours a week but these poor souls have to do a full 90 minutes (if they don't get taken off).

I don't know the rules in this respect and can't be ar$ed looking them up. If he has broken a rule
then dish out the prescribed punishment - if he hasn't, then leave the bloke alone and, as my
dear old grandma used to say, get on with your own knitting.
FWIW, I don't see any harm in what he did in the attendant circumstances.
Move on.

Re: KLOPP.........Ban him or praise his passion ?
I am not surprised the authorities have been lenient but it's a bit of a soft option.
Re: KLOPP.........Ban him or praise his passion ?
Here's what the fuss is about. You can't make a rule that says some officials but not others are allowed on the pitch, or that some goals can be celebrated on the pitch but not others. Either no-one is allowed onto the pitch apart from the players; or everyone is allowed on the pitch to celebrate goals. If Klopp is allowed on, then why can't the entire 22-man backroom staff and all the subs join him? Have 40 people in the group hug?houseboy wrote:I honestly cannot see what the fuss is about. The FA should, but won't, take action to nip this in the bud. Every match is on TV - make it an automatic rule that anyone other than the 11 players who comes onto the pitch without permission, gets a one-match ban. Subs, managers, whatever. This will nip it in the bud. Any player who doesn't have the mental capacity to understand this rule (and there will be some - look at the number who can't get their head round the shirt removal rule) can be put on reins or something.
But the FA won't do this, because their preferred action is always to bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything in the world of football is perfect.

Don't agree at all. Klopp is the manager of the team and when the ball is out of play (as it was) and he wants to celebrate a goal then that should not be a problem. Re: KLOPP.........Ban him or praise his passion ?
It's over the top & disrespectful to the opposition, but other than that there's nothing wrong with it. It happens loads. Jose (several times), Di Canio vs Newcastle, The goal last season City scored where their whole backroom staff ran down to the corner to celebrate (Mendy was hobbling down the touchline after his surgery) and it seems to happens a lot at international tournaments with whole benches encroaching onto the pitch.
It is certainly not the same as a fan running on the pitch. The fan is not involved in the game the same as a manager. By that I mean the manager needs access the pitch as part of his role. Fans shouldn't be on the pitch full stop..... Unless they've just seen their team stay in the football league after beating Orient on the final day of the season. Or won promotion.

And if the other manager comes on to the pitch for a team talk while Klopp is on the pitch? And if the other manager brings his assistant? Are you going to set a limit on how many non-players are allowed on, or will it be just Klopp?houseboy wrote:Don't agree at all. Re: KLOPP.........Ban him or praise his passion ?
I don't care who or what official is on the pitch when there is no play going on, I really don't. I actually really honestly don't care, they are not interfering with play so it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. This rule about not leaving the technical area (when did they invent that anyway FFS) is a nonsense, managers used to run up and down the touchline years ago.dsr wrote:And if the other manager comes on to the pitch for a team talk while Klopp is on the pitch? In answer to the OP; I would put Klopp in a cardboard box, tie it up with string, and them put him in a dark place for a long time.
