When We Go Down this Summer....

Post by Lord Beamish » Wed Dec 26, 2018 4:45 pm

... should we stick with Dyche?

I’m not sure we should at all. I can’t help but think that his time with us is up. A new broom, and all that.

He's got us up twice is the only real saving grace for the logic of keeping him. But then he'll return to this dour shite and we'll be back in the same boat.

Who would possibly want to put up with this joyless, paceless, lumpen football for another season ?
The club desperately needs change.

The decision should be made and acted upon now, whilst the Board and manager are at the ground. He should have been sacked a month ago at least not in the midst of a crucial run of fixtures at the busiest time of the season. We could have been starting a recovery potentially under the new man ahead of the window opening. Now it's too easy for a Board incapable of acting quickly to conclude the dye is cast and we might as well stick with Dyche and hope for a miracle.

Remember how long our board stuck with Cotterill and Laws in the past. I just can't see them sacking Dyche this season

Too late I’m afraid. It’s a 2009-10 situation, although the football and points tally are both considerably worse this time. Much worse.

How many of today's starting eleven will be good enough for the Championship?

The board would be mad not to given his record with us, they'll be thinking long term not season to season. Even if we go down Dyche has brought stability to the club.

He has to go.

He’s been brilliant for us but the performances and results are completely indefensible.

I can't stand the thought of Leeds replacing us in the Prem.

All of them, I'd say. When we go down, if nobody left, we wouldn't need much more to bounce straight back, imo.

Dyche played a master stroke when he signed his new contract, he knew he couldnt do anything with this bunch of players and so waiting to get sacked which he knows is coming a some point just 3.5m richer when it does, it would be on his CV anyway but he will get a job in the championship no problem

Another knee jerk reaction thread after giving a less then acceptable performance. Understandable but..

As bad as the team are performing I look forward to the performances improving when certain players are weeded out and are replaced by ones with the correct attitude.

Won’t be long I’m sure.

For those old enough to remember this feels very much like 1975-1976.

On the back of winning the 2nd Division Title (1972-1973) there were two good years, 6th and 10th and an FA Cup semi-final - but in the third of those seasons back, an ageing team were found-out and spent the whole of the campaign in and around the relegation places - the outcome was never really in much doubt. The 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Wolves, felt very much like today.

Needless to say the basis of that team who survived went onto struggle after relegation and we never seriously threatened to come back before sinking through the leagues.

So if history is not to be repeated, action, rather than in-action/wait and see is required.

If we go down like this the players won't keep faith in him so there's no point keeping him on.

I remember that Wolves defeat, rain lashed Turf Moor, terrible day.

Excellent post Earby Claret....the similarities between 75/ 6 and now are striking. I seem to recall the club feeling very pleased with itself after 3 good seasons then as well.

The club ran out of steam then, and it feels like that now.

Our best players wers sold, replacements not good enough, nothing came through the youth system for another five years, then they were all sold.

When (or, can we still hold on to "if?") we go down this summer we can look forward to two games against Blackburn Rovers. And, what would be really exciting is if Accrington Stanley can get a promotion. Imagine three north east Lancs teams all playing in the Championship. Or, then again, I'd rather not. ;) :(

This came up at the match, big discussion with a lot of the folks sat around me.

Sad to say, the general consensus was folk said it was time to say goodbye. My own opinion remains that he deserves to be given opportunity to bring us back, and that his record in that league is scarily amazing.

However, I said that I highly doubt we will ever find out if he would manage it a third time. I think he hasn’t got the stomach for a third Championship promotion assault with us, I imagine he would be looking to leave through his own frustrations with the board etc.

Didn't we have a similar situation a few years ago when we got relegated with Brian Laws in charge?
It looked as though that would be the end of a return to Premier league football, for many years at least?

And let's not forget, the board have a very good track record of appointing managers who can get teams into the Prem.
Coyle/SD with us and Eddie Howe got Bournemouth promoted, so they can obviously spot managers who can get promotions.

And tbf, football is totally different in the way it operates from the 1970's. I doubt we'll be rubbing shoulders with Rochdale anytime soon.

Stay up or go down, there’s a large rebuilding job to do in the summer.

The board need to be satisfied that Dyche will have the ability and motivation to do that.

Dyche may not even fancy it.
