James - 'Living in extraordinary times', as good as anything they've ever done and still amazing live

Fame Northern Soul. Very strong compilation - every one a winner.

Re: OT: Your album of the year
This could get incredibly vague, as most music threads seem to do on here.
It’s almost like “who can name the most obscure musician” competition.
So, trying to keep it real, I’ll go for “Springsteen live on broadway”.
Course, if you particularly enjoyed Masindo Mbakindo’s “sounds from a daytime nightmare”, then by all means post it.
PS... that James album is very good also.

If you post a list of musicians you’ve heard ofbobinho wrote:This could get incredibly vague, as most music threads seem to do on here.

I’m sure we can be damn civil enough to not mention anyone that doesn’t feature.

Another vote for Kamasi Washington here. I was lucky enough to see him live this year as well, and he was fantastic.

Not sure if Primal Scream’s “lost version” of Give Out But Don’t Give Up can be included as it’s not strictly speaking a new album. But it’s very good.

Staying at Tamara's by George Ezra was brilliant.

I listened to the picks above that I'd never heard of.
Mostly, they irked me.

Re: OT: Your album of the year
Always love a thread like this as to be honest I'm total out of tune with what's new as I just don't listen to radio much anymore and never venture too far from my comfort blanket of.mid 80's through to early 2000's.
I might spend a day or two on Spotify looking some of these up for a listen.

Re: OT: Your album of the year
These things are fairly arbitrary as any single person only hears a small % of all available music + tastes vary widely anyway; but for me.............
Best new rock album: Curse of Lono - "As I Fell"
Best new folk album: Kitty MacFarlane - "Namer of Clouds"
Best new Americana album: Stray Birds - "Let it Pass"
Best reissue album: Blodwyn Pig - "Head Rings Out"
Best gig I went to - Hannah Alrdridge (who played to me and about 10 others in a small scruffy venue on a Tuesday night in summer but still gave it everything)
I enjoyed music as much in 2018 as any other year since I started listening/attending in earnest in c. 1960/61.
