They might as well not bother telling us about Defour and instead just surprise us when he's eventually back.

He's contracted until June 2020,with his lack of playing time and our apparent safety-first approach with finances, how much is this sick note costing in wages, which could have gone towards a new signing in the summer,or even covered the wages of any loans we might get.mealdeal wrote:Defours a waste of time.

If we ever see Defour in a Burnley shirt again I'll be amazed. He's clearly got a serious problem and is highly unlikely to put in a genuine run of games again. He's not been on the receiving end of a bad tackle since he's been with us; it's just niggly injuries which must be related to his earlier career threatening injury. Such a shame for us and him, he's a real talent.
Brady was always going to struggle this season. His injury was so unusual we can't have known if / how he would recover. He's another I don't expect to see again soon.
I can only say I hope I'm wrong on both counts!

Brady. I don’t know. It took him long enough to find fine form when he first arrived and then he decides to try and run through a brick wall. A big loss.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
One of the problems with Defour is that he goes back to Belgium for treatment when injured but both he and Brady have secondary injuries which often happen after long lay offs. I think it is calf for Defour and hamstring for Brady who has been hampered with little injuries now for months since he played in pre-season and had to come off.

They should have tagged this announcement onto the Tampax tweet on Boxing Day, one week in three weeks out.

The club need to try and actively move Defour on in the summer.
His contribution is minimal.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
I completely agree. If we can find some sap of a club to take him off our hands, he needs to go. From what I could find out online, he missed 75 days with a calf strain up to the end of September. He's since played 6 games where his contribution was negligible and has been injured again since, presumably with an occurrence of the same thing. When a 'calf strain' puts you on your arse for over three months, you've got to question whether his heart is truly in it.agreenwood wrote:The club need to try and actively move Defour on in the summer.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
His first season was similar. In and out of the team with injury and fitness issues all season.
Hard to recall a player as lauded by the fans off the back of about 3 months of good form in 2.5 years.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
It makes it even more astounding that we didnt sign two midfield players in the last window. Surely the management must have known Defour would manage only about four part games this season and that Brady would take a long time to come back - if he ever does. Poor management and now the price is being paid. No creativity whatsoever. No wonder the defence has given up. Let one in and thats it.

Who is going to take Defour with his injury record....if fit we may as well stick hold as he is a good player when fit.

Did we trigger the extra year on Defours contract by choice or did we have no option?

And that is why this summer we needed another 2 bodies of similar ability in through the door.

Why would he want to go when earning 35 grand a week for 10 games a seasonThe Enclosure wrote:Who is going to take Defour with his injury record....if fit we may as well stick hold as he is a good player when fit.

If I remember correctly JBG put in a superb cross for the goal against West Ham last season.

I can't believe its got to the point of wanting our best midfielder player to move on but i can fully understand the reasons why. One of the best players i have seen in a Burnley shirt on his day

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
Defour as been poor this season when he as played and looks way off the pace for Premier league football.
Can't see Defour going anywhere due to his fitness issues, he will more than likely sit his contract out, unless we make him an offer.
Poor management by the club who know his history and should have been sourcing his replacement 12 months ago

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
I honestly don't know but it's a bonkers decision when his fitness issues are apparent to all and sundry,i'd move him in the summer even if we have to take a loss in transfer fees,he is taking up a squad place and wages when someone else could be developed,or we could have signed a replacement in the summer,it's hardly a shock his contribution has been sparse this season.jrgbfc wrote:Did we trigger the extra year on Defours contract by choice or did we have no option?

One of my favourite players ever to wear the Claret shirt.......but does anyone genuinely believe he wants to play for Burnley Football Club again ?

Reminds me of when we signed Alan Moore from Middlesbrough all those years ago, the Boro fans were saying top quality player(and he was) but hope you've got a comfortable physio's table because he'll never be off it.
Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
We have no doubt given Defour the biggest contract in his career.
Personally I doubt whether he will play more than 10 more games before his contract expires.....by which time he will have earned the best part of £10m from his time in Burnley (including his signing on fees).
Yes he has given a handful of wonderful games and clearly he is more gifted than most players we have seen in a claret shirt.....but an injured genius is not what we need. It’s hardly any wonder he was happy to stay another year.
You have got to wonder what people at our club are doing sometimes.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
Usually, if a player has an option extended from his choice it is because he has played more than a certain number of games - and that certainly can't apply in this case, so the club must have made the decision to take up the option (another strange move along with many others)
CT stated earlier that he always goes back to Belgium for treatment when injured - hang on, don't we pay his wages so why don't we insist that treatment is done here so we can monitor the situation first hand
Burnley's answer to "Sicknote" Anderton (Spurs) who will still be here for another 18 months with a back strain from being on the treatment table for so long

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
Since he bought into Dyche's mantra in, the summer of 2017, you can't fault his effort. He struggles massively with injuries yes, but to question whether he wants to play for us is wrong IMO. From his social media posts, he seems to want nothing more than to be fit and part of the team (this wasn't the case in his first season when he hardly posted about playing for Burnley). I think the reality is that he's a player who needs a full, interrupted pre season to be effective. We might get a decent season out of him next year if he can get that.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
No link, it's not the gross wage that counts, it's the net wage
Re: ARTICLE: JBG ready but Defour and Brady remain doubtful
So what was his net wage at Porto ?
It’s the gross wage that counts to the club btw !
Just thought that the tv money we earned must dwarf what Porto received back in 2014 and Defour would also have got a nice bonus for our position last year and various signing on / renewal fees. From a “net” point of view over here there are a number of things they can do with pension payments etc to reduce their tax bill.
