Heaton 9 - Well overdue return. Lets hope he keeps fit and keeps his place. Sell Hart in January with Pope Tom's #2 for now.

Taylor 8 - Very strong.
Mee 8 - Coped with everything thrown in the box
Tarkowski 8 - Same as Mee
Bardsley 9 - How he was asked to make way for Lowton is still something that has me baffled.

McNiel 7 - Delicate, artistic footballer .... great goal but was largely absent 2nd half
Westward 9 - One of the best performances from him I've seen.
Cork 7 -- Good solid performance
Gudmonson 6 --- seemed off the pace and a little discombobulated at times.

Barnes 6 -- You could almost right the script for this typical battling Barnes performance
Wood 5 Took his one goal well but missed two absolute sitters. We need to have a more clinical finisher if we're to survive the drop.

Heaton-9 great awareness to come out and start the move for our first. What a save at the end.
Bardsley-9 excellent, it's not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's about the size of the fight in the dog.
Tarks-9 immense, only 3 whooshes out of play too
Mee--9 great positioning more than once rescuing us from danger
Taylor -9 class today
Westwood-8 kept it neat, tidy and simple
Cork -8 better than previous weeks
Gudmunsson-7 ok first game back, a touch rusty
McNeil -9 great fearless display, not affraid to try anything
Wood- 8 held it up, ran the channels and great finish
Barnes- 8 great assist, his all round game deserved a goal.

Dyche 9 - bug calls to make , but boy didn't the cried and team respond. More of the same please, it could have been 3 or 4.

Best performance in a long, long time. We played on the front foot for the entire 90, we played neat and incisive passes through the leggy West Ham side and could have five or six in the end. The defending was also back to what we expect from a Burnley side.

Well done SD and players.

Heaton 9. Made a fantastic save. Organised well and had a hand in the goals. Fair play to play like that on your first prem game in 15 months.

Bardsley 9 for me the biggest and most importamt change in the last game and today. Had felipe anderson in his pocket. Defensively he is excellent.

Taylor 7 steady enough. And his first job is to defend and he was excellent at that. And fair play to him playing so well defensively with a young lad ahead of him.

Tarkowski 7 excellent defensively but did try some very extravagent balls that couldve cost us again.

Mee 8. His beat performance for some time. Much less pressure today without the armband.

Mcneill 9. For a young lad to have such an influence was incredible. Plus one for goal. Plus one for his age.

Jbg 7. Steady. Looked to take players on. Always a threat. Should have scored though.

Cork 8. Much better. Actually looked quick and hungry.

Westwood. 8 played well. Ratted about well and good on the ball. Good fight in him today.

Wood 8. Took his goal well. Movement was excellent. Should have had 2.

Barnes 7. Worked hard and typical performance for him. Linked well with Wood.

Where has that been hiding all year? That’s the Sean Dyche Burnley we know. That now has to set the standard for us from this point forward. Excellent performance.

Wow. The sort of all round team effort and belief that worked so well for us last year.
We snuffed them out. We passed the ball well, and quickly.
Spammers couldn't live with us. And when they managed to carve one out, Tom showed just how good his reaction saves can be.
For the most part, he did what he's so good at and marshalled the defence. Good to have you back, Tom.

Special mention to McNeil. Was a breath of fresh air to the side, particularly first half.
And while Chris missed a couple, he looked far more up for it and watched his offsides better too!

Great result. Even better the way we got it!
UTC

Oh. And Bards was superb. He owned his part of the pitch throughout.

Bit of an over reaction from some posters giving everyone 9s imo! But hey ho....

Dyche for me should have put Vokes on for Wood earlier and probably Vydra for McNeil, putting Barnes out wide.

Think if we do that earlier then we won't be under as much pressure at the end of the game as barnes/wood weren't holding the ball up at all and McNeil had tired.

There were a few people around me clamouring for Dyche to make changes from sixty minutes. Not sure why when we looked comfortable and our shape and flow were excellent.

Heaton 8 - No doubt he had a positive effect on that defence and his save from the header was excellent.
Bardsley 9** MOM - So many teams have struggled with Anderson this season and Bardsely took him almost completely out of the game, with his experience and hard work. Very good going forwards too. Our defensive unit is far better with him in it.
Tarkowski 7 - Just had to dock a point for some of his poor long balls, but apart from that he was solid again.
Mee 7 - Glad to see him show some spirit and fight again today, thought he might have finally been dropped after his Everton performance.
Taylor 8 - Considering he had the youngster in front of him and the pace Wet Spam had down his flank in the second half he acquitted himself very well.
JBG 7 - Always looked a threat and showed for the ball. Had a decent chance to score, but combines really well with Bardsley on that side.
Westwood 8 - Worked hard again alll game. Gave very little up and made some good interceptions and passes.
Cork 8 - More like the Cork we know. Fought hard throughout and made a crucial interception in the box towards the end of the first half.
McNeil 8 - That first half performance was very very good. Has such a sweet left foot on him. Just a couple of times he took an extra touch, but it will come with experience. Seemed to tire quite rapidly second half, but it was an excellent performance from the youngster.
Barnes 7 - Worked tirelessly, winning headers and flick on that he had no right to against the big lads at the back.
Wood 7 - Torn here between a 7 or an 8. Should have had a hat-trick, but his movement and holding up the ball were excellent. Got himself into some great positions.

Overall though it was a pleasure to watch. The passing was especially pleasing, moving away from constant hoofing and getting it down and playing seemed to make the world of difference. We looked dangerous going forward and solid at the back. Great performance, hope we can push on from here.

You can only beat what is in front of you but West Ham really did not turn up today.
Heaton 7 Good save late on was his only real contribution
Bardsley 8 Set the tone
Tarkowski 8 Solid and bossed his attacker until Carroll came on
Mee 8 Ditto
Taylor 7 Good at both ends
JBG 7 Typical JBG tidy with occasional sparks
Cork 7 Better than recent
Westwood 8 Everywhere
McNeil 8 Great contribution
Wood 6 Not sure why the big marks for him or...
Barnes 6 Missed more chances in one game than I can remember (partly because we've not been creating)

Heaton 8 - had nothing to do really other than the great save at the end
Bardsley 9 - defended Anderson out of the game
Mee 8 - solid
Tarkowski 9 - great reading of the game today,
Taylor 8 - did well defensively, needed to guide McNeil a bit more though when they doubled up
Gudmundsson 7 - didn't have a huge impact on the game
Westwood 9 MOM - absolutely everywhere today as well as great distribution.
Cork 7 - not as big an impact as Westwood but worked hard
McNeil 8 - great first half, direct and tried to get in crosses and shots, rewarded with the goal, looked knackered after an hour.
Wood 8 - worked extremely hard and won more headers today than he has in any other game all season, happy he got a goal.
Barnes 8 - moved their two CBs around, was another one who put in a shift.

Win, lose or draw, all we want is a team that puts in maximum effort. Today we had that. To a man we worked harder than West Ham, some nice football for both goals. Could and should have had 4 or 5 but play like that and we'll be ok

Heaton 8- solid, reliable, organising defence and also came and collected a cross similar to the one that Hart didn't on Wednesday.
Bardsley 9- tenacious against a highly rated winger.
Mee 8- another who blew cobwebs of previous months away.
Tarkowski 8- apart from one misplaced pass, imperious, even when the thug was throwing his elbows about.
Taylor 7- one good cross amongst a lot of poor ones but his lone drive up the wing helped set the tone.
Cork 8- how many times did he drive in to penalty area, much better than of late.
Westwood 8- great in the tackle got about and made himself available.
McNeil 8- could have scored another but excellent for a young lad. We might have found one.
Gudmondson 8- always an outlet and played in some good crosses.
Barnes 8- lovely knock down for first, should have scored with early chance but he gives his all.
Wood 7- missed two sitters but at least got in to them positions.

That's much more like it. Fair play to Dyche, he had some big calls to make today and he wasn't afraid to make them. Remarkable how much better that defence looked with Heaton behind it. Heaton didn't have too much to do but he dealt with everything well, including a top class save.

Special mention for McNeil who had an excellent game and surely deserves a decent run in the side off the back of that performance.

We were like a different team to Wednesday - probably because indeed, that's precisely what Dyche put out. Five changes, a change in shape and a change in tactics and it produced our best performance in the 2018 calendar year.

Heaton - 8 - Rightly recalled, even if Hart had had more "might have done better moments" than genuine howlers. The save at the end was world class, and as much about the fact he'd made himself as big as possible as the reflex to get the right mit to it; whilst the first goal owed lots to his reading of the game and willingness to advance beyond his area to deal with a threatening through-ball. He didn't have much else to do but did it assuredly, and apart from everything else, the organisation of the team looked more assured, right down to decisions about who should take free kicks in our own half. A triumphant return - and presumably he's got the shirt for the foreseeable future.

Bardsley - 8 - Played as though on a mission to demonstrate to Dyche he shouldn't have been left out on boxing day. The way he snuffed out Anderson and protected the centre backs meant this was mission accomplished.

Taylor - 8 - Not always protected as well as he might be accustomed to, given that McNeill was understandably caught out a few times, but stood up to the challenge really bravely and diligently and can be seriously proud of his rate of improvement in the last couple of months. His crossing was a bit hit and miss, but when he did get it right he produced at least one pearler.

Tarkowski - 9 - one over-ambitious second half free kick and one careless first half pass aside, this was Tarkowski at his imperious, assured but uncomplicated best. Dealt with Carroll as well as any centre back will all season, was brave when he needed to be and didn't shirk a challenge all day.

Mee - 8 - Got the nod ahead of Gibson and then demonstrated why it was the right call. Struck up a real understanding with Heaton and Tarkowski and battled like a man possessed whenever he needed to.

Westwood - 9 - The dominant force in midfield on either side. Never going to be a world beater at this level, but this was his day and he showcased exactly what he offers at his best - composure in tight areas, good decision making, tidy and effective passing, energy and tenacity. Heavily involved in both goals, and the diagonal for the opening goal in particular was pin-point perfect.

Cork - 8 - took his cue from Westwood, and was another to find something close to their top gear. Particular credit for his defensive work, and in particular for taking responsibility for dealing with Carroll effectively from first phase in the second half - he screened Tarkowski and Mee as well as he has at any point this season.

JBG - 7 - Bagged his assist and provided a few other moments of quality in a real team effort, even if this was one of those days when he was happy to allow others to take the limelight.

McNeill - 8 - I was really worried about him before the game and worried if it was a bit of a sign that Dyche was getting a bit desperate - I was completely wrong about that, then. For an 18 year old, his composure, willingness to look forwards and appreciation of space is something to behold, and he deserved his goal as much for the determination he showed to get on the end of it as anything else. Not everything came off for him, - he was guilty of dwelling on the ball a couple of times and should have scored at least one more - and he did get caught a bit defensively as he tired in the final quarter - but these are minor gripes about a player who has a huge future ahead of him if he wants it.

Barnes - 7 - Did the job he was asked to do selflessly, both in attack and defence. Probably should have scored, and not everything came off for him, but at the minute he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

Wood - 8 - much like Barnes, except he scored with a really well taken finish. We all know he should have buried a second early in the second half, but he kept on making the runs, stretching West Ham in behind the full backs, and he was the star of the move of the match when he played a serious of 1-2s down the left flank before tee-ing up Barnes early in the second half. We all know he's been struggling, but hopefully the confidence he takes from today, both for his goal and all round performance, will set him up for a hot-streak in the new year.

Vokes - not on long enough.

I've no idea where this Burnley team has been hiding, but thank goodness it has reappeared just as things were beginning to look a bit bleak. Having reverted to the back four on which our success (at least at home) has been built, and with both strikers clearly instructed to run the channels behind the full backs at every opportunity - we almost immediately looked like the Burnley of the past two seasons. McNeill and JBG did their bit by providing outlets for those strikers once we'd established a foothold in the opposing half, and the midfield two and full backs provided an aggressive, high energy platform behind them. With Heaton visibly organising and driving the team up the pitch from behind, and a real intensity to everything we did it was like stepping back in time 18 months.

Big thanks are due to West Ham for being an absolute abomination of a football team in the first half, and only improving to merely awful in the second half - and the euphoria has to be tempered by the knowledge more disciplined tests will await, probably in every game we play before the end of the season. Their defensive line was consistently awful, with both full backs way ahead of their centre backs so that there was always ample space to exploit, and their forward players didn't really want to know - apart from Carroll, who wanted the physical scrap to the exclusion of everything else.

But even allowing for that, this was excellent. Heaton and McNeill will probably bag the headlines, but this was a real team performance: in the end, the only real criticism that can be made is that it wasn't 3, 4 or even 5. There's still plenty of room for improvement, and one swallow doesn't make a summer, but in fairness to the players, Everton aside the last 6 games right back to Liverpool at home have showed real shoots of recovery and certainly if we replicate that performance between now and May we'll do OK.

Excellent from start to finish apart from probably the worst finishing of the season (maybe apart from Olympiacos at home) from the 2nd goal onwards. And that is saying something but this is not a day to be too picky.

The transformation in our energy, touch and confidence seems to be down to three things:

Firstly, Heaton gives the crowd a lift, and perhaps the team too. Burnley people love an underdog, Hart is not that, and while Hart has done little to warrant being dropped I think Heaton deserved a chance. We have three keepers who all could walk into many international first XIs.

Secondly, West Ham were miles off it. Truly woeful, tired with a day less rest and in an injury crisis. They were missing Zabaleta badly, Antonio is no right back.

Thirdly, it was a natural reaction to Boxing Day in the way Everton had a reaction to shipping six at home.

So the acid test is how we do now against the bottom two. That, I suspect, will determine if we are truly back to our old selves.

Heaton 8 - commanded his box well, organised the defence (you could hear him all game) and started the move for the first
Bardsley 9 - when he takes his keys out of his pocket when he gets home, I suspect he'll also pull out Felipe Anderson
Tarkowski 8 - last 30 minutes in particular, really came into his own
Mee 8 - as above
Taylor 9 - outstanding performance
JBG 7 - quiet, but returning from injury and we know it takes him a few games. Didn't do owt wrong though.
Westwood 9 - I've been critical lately but he was fantastic throughout
Cork 8 - quietly had a very good game
McNeil 8 - great showing
Wood 8 - super performance, bar the two misses. Should have had a hat trick and a 10/10
Barnes 8 - pressed and harried superbly throughout

Heaton 7 - Had maybe 3 saves to make all game? Last save was a real stunner.

Bardsley 8 - One of his best games for us, always seems to do really well first game back. Seemed to offer more going forward than usual as well.
Tarkowski 7 - Much better than recent games
Mee 8 - As above
Taylor 8 - Looked more confident, which is what I think is usually his problem

JBG 7 - Looked bright
Westwood 9 - Outstanding, best game for us yet
Cork 8 - None of those mistakes he's been making this season, looked in control alongside Westwood.
McNeil 9 - You have to wonder why Dyche hasn't involved him more this season on that showing, should have had a second as well.

Barnes 7 - West Ham couldn't handle him physically.
Wood 8 - Great performance, should have had 3 but to see him get that many chances in a game was positive enough.
