Heaton 7 nothing much to do, looked a good save 1st half when he spread himself
Bardsley 7 solid enough
Tarky 8
Mee 6 sloppy, rarely found a Burnley shirt under little pressure
Taylor 8 did very well at both ends
McNeil 8 assist, got a man sent off. Fearless and drives forward a a lot, which eases pressure
Cork 7
Westwood - excellent
JBG 6 quiet, seemed to take the wrong option too much
Barnes 8 excellent
Wood 9, scored, and all round play was excellent. Won headers, ran the channels, held the ball up and brought others unto play. Surprising his influence when we play a bit

Lowton 7 steady
Brady 5 even with out the red, he wasn't very good

Edit - took me 15 minutes of re-reading to spot it, it have been on the big screen in a few weeks if not amended...

Heaton 7. very little to do. Defensively we look settled again. Although the goal conceded was a carbon copy of many Harts been lambasted for. Defence should have dealt with it IMO.

Bardsley 8 .solid again. Breaks opposition play up excellently. If they dont manage to knock the ball around him they have no chance.
Tarkowski 7. Overall played well. BUT some more stray passes.
Mee 7. Solid typical Ben Mee performance. Even looked tidy on the ball. Lost his man for the goal.
Taylor 7. Good defensively. Linked up pretty well with McNeil again and put some good balls in.

JBG 7. Always a threat. Always looks to run with the ball. Links up well and played some nice incisive balls. BUT should have had one or two goals.
McNeil 9. Direct. Excellent touch. Always looks to cross. Always positive. Another assist. Plus one again for such a performance at such an age. His main problem will be managing fans expectation if he keeps this up! He is 19 in the premier league and playing like this. Pheonomenal.
Westwood 9. Excellent again. Energy. Passing. Crossing. Movement. Involved throughout. If the ball was cut back to him in a 2 on 1 he would have had a deserved first goal for us too. Really impressive in Defours absence.
Cork 8. Best performance in a long time. Showed real desire and worked very well with Westwood.

Wood 9. Like a new signing  touch, movement and link up play have been excellent these last two games and looked every bit the player we bought last season. Hope his confidence continues to grow and his composure comes with it.
Barnes 8. Exactly what we expect from him. Works hard. Wins clever free kicks. Gets stuck in. Hassles players. And gets a deserved goal.

Really enjoyed that game. Thought we played as well as we have in a long time, especially on the counter. And while it looks tight at 2-1 I thought we absolutely controlled it.

The thing that said it all for me was when they got the red card. Wagner brought off their only attacking, creative player for a defensive one. Paid us a huge compliment with that sub. And also probably gave us real confidence as the away side!

heaton - 7 called upon once to make a fine block from close range

bardsley - 7 solid defensively, injury looks an odd one

tarkowski - 8 less casual ******** tonight and dominated in the air

mee - 6 lost his man for their goal

taylor - 7 working really well with mcneil, we're playing some nice football down the left hand side

cork - 7 last two games have been far more like the cork from last season

westwood - 8 carried on his superb form from sunday

gudmundsson - 6 powder puff shooting but doesn't appear to be showing any ill effects from his mot recent niggle

mcneil - 8 superb assist, working well with taylor and he's got the happy knack of having the ball glued to his feet at the moment. as the sending off incident showed, defenders do not want him running at them. for a 19 year old, he's playing above his years.

barnes - 8 the front two were excellent tonight and seem to have rediscovered their successful partnership from last season. lovely calm finish.

wood - 8 see barnes but we're keeping it on the floot more and it suits him better

brady - 6 stupid yellow card, wrongly given as a red

a game that was always going to be a bit 'thud and blunder' to quote lawro but we took it to a poor huddersfield and played all the football. again, like the west ham game, we should have put it all to bed a lot earlier than we did and we were a touch sloppy in possession at times. you can forgive that though after hectic christmas fixtures. the only real concern is us conceding from a free header with the keeper rooted to his line, yet again.

the energy and desire were there for all to see and the team with that extra bit of quality has deservedly won it. what a difference a week makes. wonder if the guy in front of us is still shouting for fat sam to replace dyche?

edit: lowton - 6

Bardsley 7 solid enough though a bit outpaced
Tarky 7 strong and was equal to their efforts
Mee 5 gave away the ball and time to step aside
Taylor 6 decent enough though gave ball away cheaply
McNeil 8 got forward and lively

Westwood 7 steady and good pass rate
JBG 6 couple of runs but not his best
Barnes 8 enjoying himself always in the thick of it
Wood 8 best game for a while improved confidence

Heaton 7 - didn’t have too much to do

Bardsley 7 - continued his solid run of form
Tark 7 - generally dominant, gave it away too cheaply on a few occasions though
Mee 7 - sloppy on the ball
Taylor 8 - continues to impress and develop

JBG 6 - looked a yard off the pace
Westwood 9* - he was everywhere and another assist to boot
Cork 8 - helped control the game in the second half
McNeil 9 - drifts around and finds tight pockets like Eriksen/Lallana

Barnes 8 - battled and got a deserved goal
Wood 9 - back on form and look how much better we are because of that. Ran the channels, held it up and scored a fine goal.

Lowton 7 - great ball into Wood for our second
Brady 5 - He really didn’t need to hack him down like that, a cynical trip would have yielded a yellow

Heaton 6 one good save at near post, generally tidy and not lots to, but chose wrong choice with his throw which led to the goal.
Bardsley 6
Taylor 7
Mee 6
Tarks 7
Cork 7
Westwood 8
JBG 6
McNeil 8
Barnes 6 (I thought he should have been hooked as I thought he was pretty poor, then right on Q he notched)
Wood 9 excellent centre forward performance, which coupled with Sunday bodes well for the player and us and shows he has some character to battle through his previous suspect form.

Lowton 6 steady away, doing what he needed to do and fairly well, I might even be being a little harsh on him.
Brady 6 looked good on the break and put a couple of dangerous balls across. Personally (and this is without seeing it again) I had no issue with him preventing them breaking away. We weren’t that ruthless last year and Southampton equalised at home.

Heaton 7 - no save to make but had a calmness
Bardsley 7 - solid
Tarkowski 7 - solid and good distribution apart from the occasional wobbly pass
Mee 7 - again, solid, looking like the captaincy removal is a blessing
Taylor 6 - I felt he was to blame for the goal. I was watching him right in front of me and he drifted wide, inexplicably
Westwood 7 - an enigma. I want to like him. Energy, breaks forward, an assist, but too often he missed his chance
Cork 7 - not particularly memorable
Gudmundsson 7 - as Cork
McNeill 8 - MOTM. An assist, a “mini assist” for the sending off (helped by the daft Schindler not knowing he had been booked), a fine performance staggering he was taken off (I would have out Brady on for Taylor at 1:1 vs 10 men), but we won so Sean gets the credit
Wood 8 - our best finisher is recovering his “calm moments” in front of goal as Sean would say
Barnes 8 - just seems to do it. Not sure how. He just does.

Brady 7 - I like him. He has grit, talent, clever movement, and makes the right choices. Our best winger. The foul was correct to do, it was danger and it was never a red. Didn’t think so at the time, I was right, having seen MOTD in the hotel. Amazing we have Dean as Ref and one of the best refs in the world was on the bench. A silly system.
Lowton 7 - slotted in nicely.

I agree with Dyche after the game. It does happen occasionally. We seemed to be regaining our calmness. We are one game away (Fulham) from being well clear. Cardiff have a shocking run in. Huddersfield are gone. Fulham we could be clear of. This is our chance, we are (so far) taking it.

We were unspectacular today but did the little things that Huddersfield couldn’t cope with. Once we moved the ball fast they began to collapse. That ball has been a slowcoach all season. That’s where we miss Defour and Barton. The goals showed this. I worry that Westwood and Cork are too pedestrian to do it, but tonight is not the time to worry.

Heaton. 7. Very solid. Little he could do about the goal.
Bardsley. 8. Not the most sophisticated but his drive and determination make a real difference.
Mee.6. Solid defensively but distribution when they had ten men was poor.
Tarks. 6. See Mee.
Taylor. 7. A little exposed on the first goal but solid after that.
JBG. 6. Good but no real breakthrough today.
Cork. 8. Getting back to his best.
Westwood. 8. A real dynamo today.
McNeil.8. A real creative threat.
Wood. 8. Mom. His best game. Really good hold up play.
Barnes. 7. Another effective aggressive performance
Lowton. 7. Solid
Brady. 5. SD doesn't do straight reds and nor do I

Heaton - 7

Bardsley 6
Tarkowski 7
Mee 5 - Continually lambasted those around him even when something was his error. Don’t mind someone dishing out a rollicking, but concentrate on your own game first
Taylor 7

Gudmundsson 6 - Needs to be less predictable by going down the line sometimes, even if it’s just to make the defender think
Westwood 8
Cork 7
McNeil 8

Barnes 7 - Makes poor decisions at times but always a handful
Wood 8 - Very good

Heaton 7 - Huddersfield rarely troubled him, was let down by Mee for their goal
Bardsley 6 - Him going off injured actually helped us as he was constantly being done for pace and as he was already on a yellow, I worried he'd see red.
Tarkowski 8- Back to back good performances.
Mee 5 - Lost his man for the goal and crap passing.
Taylor 7 - His final ball wasn't great but worked well with McNeil, gave us width in attack and defended pretty well.
McNeil 8 - Seems to take him 5 minutes to get into a game but from then on he was superb, direct with the ball, takes on a man and his final ball is a threat. Subbed at the right time though after a lot of football in 3 days.
Cork 8 - Did well with Westwood, worked his ******** off and won us freekicks high up the pitch.
Westwood 8 - MOM - Our best player again, wasn't that big a fan of Westwood but can't deny how good he's been the past two games. Hopefully he can keep going.
JBG 6 - didn't offer a lot again, needs a few games to get back upto speed.
Barnes 8 - Good finish to win us the game, worked hard and it starting to look good in partnership with Wood. Could and maybe should have killed the game with the massive chance late on.
Wood 8 - Followed on from West Ham with another very good performance, won loads in the air again, ran the channels and scored.

Lowton 6 - Dealt with the pace of their wingers better than Bardsley. Offered nothing in an attacking sense.
Brady 4 - Didn't think it was a red but stupid to give Mike Dean a chance to make himself center of attention again.

Heaton 7 - Not much to do but reliable when called upon
Bardsley 7 - Solid and great headed clearance in front of Heaton, who probably had it covered but best make sure.
Tarky 7 - Back to basics performance, no dallying around. Solid defending, simple passes.
Mee 6 - Generally good but lost Mounie for their goal.
Taylor 7 - Defensively solid & linked up well with McNeil on the left.
McNeil 8 - Took the game to Huddersfield at every opportunity. Glenn Little-esque turn to create the space to cross for Wood's goal.
Cork 7 - Shut down their midfielders well, collected the ball, kept the ball moving and began passages of play better than he has for some time.
Westwood 9 - Everywhere. Relishing his role to get further up the pitch. Creative and mobile.
JBG 6 - Should've looked up and squared the ball back to Westwood (who was clear in middle of box) when countering in the second half.
Barnes 8 - Linked up well with his strike partner, put himself about & took his goal well.
Wood 8 - Linked up well with Barnes, held up play well & ran the channels well also. Well taken goal.

Lowton 7 - Solid performance from the bench. Yet to recapture his form from the last couple of seasons but last night was a good start.
Brady 5 - One point removed for the sending off. I can see why Dean gave it, but thought it was harsh. Either way, it was silly.

Surprised at the generally low marks for what was a very good performance. Cork and Westwood were superb

How many of you would have been giving the same marks to Hart that you are giving to Heaton if he'd conceded that goal?

Heaton - 7
Bardsley - 8
Mee - 8
Tarkowski - 8 along with Mee, he won everything in the air
Taylor - 8 really finding his feet of late
Gudmundsson - 8
Westwood - 9* tidy and kept us ticking over all game.
Cork - 8
Mcneil - 8 fearless and skillful. No doubt hudds were revealed when he got subbed
Wood - 9 one of his best games for us. Held the ball up well and linked up with the rest of the team. Was he offside once?
Barnes - 8

Lowton - 6
Brady - 5

I think the general consensus is that the Huddersfield goal was very good goal from a very good cross- doubt very much that any keeper would save that given the power and bounce of the header.

Heaton 7 (dodgy quick throw out cost us goal imo)
Bardsley 8 (worried when he went off as he's been really important in our mini revival imo)
Tarks 8
Mee 7 (was sleeping for their goal and put us under pressure with wayward passes second half)
Taylor 8
Westwood 8
Cork 7
JBG 6 (as others have said he had a lot of the ball, but we've come to expect rather more from him)
Mcneil 9*
Barnes 8
Wood 8 (I think he's largely useless, but he was really, really good and let's hope it boosts his confidence and he proves me wrong)

Lowton 6
Brady 6

A game we definitely deserved to win and we should never have conceded such a rubbish first goal to such a toothless side. But with Mcneil tormenting them we always looked like getting back into it and after the sending off it really did feel like an attack v defence training match and only a matter of time before we put the game way. They simply tried to keep the point they had and we battered them and should have scored several more and it should have been far more comfortable tbh. An absolutely massive 3 points and IF it's followed with another 3 against Fulham we'll be well on our way to staying up.

The first Everton goal was a very good header from a very good cross. Didn't stop the keeper getting pelted for it when it's the centre halves who should have been dealing with the ball in. Same as last night.

That's actually very true.
