Netflix recommendations

Post by bfccrazy » Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:10 pm

I have a weekend which I plan on just hibernating for most of it and just wondering what random recommendations you lot have for anything on Netflix.

I love a good documentary (on anything) anything to do with sports or crime. Or a good thought provoking film.

The Money Heist is very very good. Bank robbery drama series.

Its Spanish and although it has English dubbing I preferred in native language with English subtitles.

Thank me later :D

I recently watched all of Ozark, a series I’d highly recommend.

Basic plot is that a family are way in over their heads involved as money launderers for a Mexican drug cartel, FBI after them whilst they try to appear a normal family. Very good, two series so far but renewed for a third.

On iPlayer. The Adrian Chiles documentary on his relationship with alcohol is good.

Louis Theroux documentaries are good.

There was a thread about it on here the other day but Line of Duty is an amazing thriller series about an anti-corruption team in a British police force. If you're into history as well there's a mini-series called The Civil War by Ken Burns which is a great documentary on the American civil war. For comedy I'd recommend People Just Do Nothing, it's about a bunch of deluded down and outs that run a pirate radio station in London and one of the funniest shows I've seen in ages. And for something completely different a documentary called 'Ronnie Coleman: The King' about the famous bodybuilder, even if you're not into bodybuilding it's an intriguing life story.

Better Call Saul. It's the Breaking Bad spin-off, little bit more of a slow burner than BB but we'll worth sticking with, some cracking performances

I'd second Altered Carbon. It's not exactly peak Sci-Fi and it's a bit derivative, but it's very entertaining, nonetheless.

If you like documentaries and crime then I'd suggest the following true crime documentaries:

Making a Murderer (you may well have seen it but I suggest it just in case)
The Staircase
Evil Genius
The Innocent Man (haven't seen it myself yet but looks decent)

Yes I believe so, I only found out about the film when James McAvoy was on the Graham Norton Show last week.

I will be looking out for the others as I found it enthralling!

Edit
I watched Unbreakable a few days before and didn't make the connection until now

If you want to be very surprised look up the film Love. My wife did as she was in the "romantic films" section. Fairly innocent you'd think!!!!!!

I know I’ve seen Unbreakable but can’t recall seeing Split.
We’re planning on going to watch Glass so will probably watch the first two before we do

Well I had to have a look. i do not want jizz in or on my tv screen, a very persistent stain(that's for League of Gentlemen fans) but the blues guitar during their first get together was excellent.

Having binged Breaking Bad, I loved Line of Duty & persisting currently with Better call Saul - As suggested above it’s slow. I’m now hooked on Prison Break too

I've just binged on three series of Narcos plus the first season of Narcos Mexico. Absolutely brilliant.

I can also vouch for Ozark but then I do have a bit of a thing for Laura Linney.

Better Call Saul is fantastic and, despite being the spin-off / prequel to Breaking Bad, doesn't need you to have watched BB first.

I watched Ozark and Narcos a few months ago. Absolutely fantastic viewing. In fact I'm going to watch narcos again in a couple of weeks time. The moosus and I have just started line of duty and it's pretty good. I keep meaning to watch Breaking Bad but every time I plan on it something else crops up. Just in the middle of Hidden on BBCiplayer too and that's OK. Who needs terrestrial tv!!

I really like Bosche (crime) & he watches Vikings episode 500 or something ridiculous now but have to say I also enjoy watching it, both on Amazon Prime, not sure if same as Netflix or not to be honest.
