Re: Peter Crouch
Except there won't be £7m in the old bread basket.
Wolves are due 25% on any profit made from the sale of Vokes (we signed him for £350k).
Wolves can put the revenue towards their new £18m signing.

I look at it this way 3 million divided by goals scored.

Yes but he seems to have looked after himself so not worried to much about the age question, given what I said in my post above.

Re: Peter Crouch
I'm beginning to warm to this deal. It's not actually that bad.
We're selling a substitute for up to a reported £10m and getting a reliable stop-gap in return - at least we're not having to shell out on a replacement for this season. We are not a striker down. I said earlier in thread, I'd rather have Peter Crouch than recall Nahki Wells.
Impact wise, Vokes and Crouch are almost like for like - one is 10 years older and almost certain to retire at the end of the season... but he is match-fit, fits in with our style of play and has commercial value. We're not going to get anyone else like that. It's not terrible business.

Re: Peter Crouch
We've got a guy with over 100 premier league goals, 42 caps for England and by all accounts a good character as a player who'll play 10 minutes here and there and likely be a positive influence on the other players. I really don't see what the fuss is all about.

Re: Peter Crouch
Freeing up their wage bill I guess. Can’t afford Vokes and Crouch and their new manager is busy trying to sign a few players.
If we don’t get another player in today then this will go down as the worst of deadline days....no way can have Vokes out and Crouch in be the plan for today.

I doubt it can be anything to do with the Wolves sell on fee for Vokes as the Vokes and Crouch deal need to be treated as separate transactions.
If the bigger picture is whoever else we are bringing in today that’s great - and I can’t believe it would be something along these lines so hopefully we get this done.

Can't see Dyche playing Vydra in a league game, I think he'd probably switch to 4-5-1 rather than start Vydra. He either wasn't wanted by Dyche in the first place or he's done something to royally **** Dyche off.willsclarets wrote:Then Vydra will start, and get a chance to prove himself.

How many grand a week does a player like that command in wages?

Re: Peter Crouch
Anybody here who think Vydra will start a game is delusional. We just sold Vokes for 7m which is pathetic considering the inflated market nowadays and if one of Barnes and Wood gets injured you think Dyche is going to play Vydra? Don’t make me laugh, it will be back to the 4-5-1. Our transfers this season have managed to surpass my already low expectations.

I’m going to wake up. It’s still May 2018. We’ve just qualified for Europe, and we’re chasing the hottest domestic talent in the championship and are looking for some shrewd deals overseas.

I genuinely don’t know what you are talking about. I can’t see anything you have posted which refers to the bigger picture.South West Claret. wrote:No need to get sarky TVC just read and digest what I’ve been saying and then maybe you will get the answer to your own question .
You mentioned about their age difference being irrelevant because they will only play 10/15 minutes. Problem with this being Vokes has started 10 games this season and if Wood or Barnes got injured or sent off (Barnes !) I could not see Crouch starting but Vokes obviously could.
Whilst the deal might look good financially - and if £10m is correct that is a very good deal for us - survival this year is worth a lot more to us than another £6m or £7m profit given the profit we are already making.
As I said if the bigger picture is we are on course to sign Evans or somebody else then that’s great. I have always supported Dyche and the board but like a lot of fans have become concerned over our last couple of transfer windows and the players we have recently brought in.

Re: Peter Crouch
You have to wonder, with all the money that’s rolled into the club over the last 3 seasons with relatively little being spent, why the club thinks it necessary to be raising cash from player sales when we’re still in a fairly perilous league position.
I could kind of see the sense in it if we were also bringing in Adams, or a similar prising youngster who may take a bit of time to settle, but if this (or anything else) isn’t going to happen, I think Garlick needs to make a statement explaining what the thinking is.

Maybe they haven't done it for the money, they've probably done it because they didn't want to stand in Vokes' way when he wants to go and play first team football for Stoke.scouseclaret wrote:You have to wonder, with all the money that’s rolled into the club over the last 3 seasons with relatively little being spent, why the club thinks it necessary to be raising cash from player sales when we’re still in a fairly perilous league position.

Re: Peter Crouch
Such a bizarre piece of business (signing a 38 year old to come on for 10 minutes here and there) that I find myself asking would this even be happening if Sean Dyche and Peter Crouch were reportedly not such good friends off the pitch.
Probably not, since Sean places a lot of faith in players that he knows and has worked with previously.
Still, a few good pay days for Crouch for very little game time.
