But Barnes and Wood will know full well that Crouch and Vydra aren't serious competition for the shirt. Vydra is massively out of favour and Crouch will take over the role of our token 83rd minute substitute.boatshed bill wrote:It says exactly what it says, assuming nothing.
Here's another PC stat: he's only completed one 90minute game this season.
The funny thing is that whilst I'm not over the moon I can see why this is happening, it gives Sam Vokes (who has been a fantastic servant) the move he wants, and we get a bench-warmer in.
I just think we need a striker to compete with Barnes or Wood for a starting place; in SD's own words, competition for the shirt lifts performances

In his press conference Dyche said they had all of the stats on Peter Crouch, minutes played and distances covered etc.
And they still went ahead and bloody signed him.

Re: Peter Crouch
If we get Evans over the line then our dealings today are far from a disgrace.
If we don’t again nowhere near a disgrace but an extremely strange decision which I could only put down to being very confident we were going to get Evans.

Re: Peter Crouch
Just bizarre that Dyche mentions stats for minutes spent on pitch and distance covered for a player that has played a series of 10 minute substitute cameo appearances. Dyche also mentioned good fitness levels of Crouch even though 38 years old.
Get the Che Adams deal done although Birmingham board insist he will not be sold during this window.

Re: Peter Crouch
Never rated him. I'd much rather have kept Sam Vokes but I suspect Sam wanted to go for more regular football. Crouch is past it.
Re: Peter Crouch
I took the plunge and had a look on the Stoke Forum. Fully expected to see us being ridiculed. Mixed feelings on getting Sam. They want young quick centre forward and feel Sam is a backward step. Losing Crouch I think this quote sums it up well. They can't see how he fits with us.
I am not sure how he fits in at Burnley? I don't get it? But he would be okay in a forward line with out and out pace, except for Crouchy
With a couple of speedsters up top ( ie not stoke) Crouchy would be a threat, because if you have to drop deep and you let in him into your penalty Box, he is hard to stop, especially in the air.

I like this move. It's a short term signing that has quite a few positives. Our overall transfer strategy hasn't been particularly good over the last year but bringing in an experienced premier league player until the end of the season is one of our better moves.

Having a further window like the last two will see us relegated. It won't hit us this season but unless we spend some serious money in the summer it will catch up with us next year no doubt. An ageing squad going backwards is very worrying.

Make no mistake if we do manage to stay up this season the summer is absolutely massive for us. We simply can't afford another complete balls up, and the same old tired excuses won't wash.

People like you don't get it at all. The point is you sign players not only for the present, but the future. Our squad is ageing and the quality is spread thin.Hibsclaret wrote:Cos it will have been such a balls up getting to Europe and then staying up again...
We've just added a striker to our list that we will need in Summer because Crouch won't be here beyond then. That's on top of the players we will want to replace or improve in the squad and the ones we haven't replaced before then.
People seem to forget that Dyche himself wanted more bodies, he's said it in his interviews. Despite that you trot out the well we finished in Europe last year as a "trump" card.
Just admit that the recruitment in the last two windows has been cack, it doesn't make you any less of a claret contrary to the belief on here.

Re: Peter Crouch
Reckon Crouch will get or assist in 4 or 5 goals this season.
On in the last 15 in on with Wood, late equalisers or last minute draws. Good option to have on the bench.
I can see the logic but then again unlike 90&% of this board I am an optimist and don't play Football Manager.

Re: Peter Crouch
what is the suggestion he is only here until the Summer? What were his contract details at Stoke? How long left on his contract?
I can't imagine he has accepted to come here only until the end of this season if he is still so fit and healthy to be playing at the top level of English footy.

Re: Peter Crouch
Sam wanted first team football and at his age it would be wrong to deny him this . We needed a player in for the next few months with plenty of experience who could assist in keeping us up and hopefully crouch fits the bill . What we really need is back up / competition in midfield to Westwood and cork ie a Drinkwater/ allen type of player .

Say £30k per week, so around £450k till mid May (though most footballers contracts seem to run until the 1st June)

Not necessarily you, but others are. If you can have a pop at people not stressing out over the last couple of transfer windows, then I can do the same for those having a meltdown over this. Some of the reactions to this move have been genuinely embarrassing. Re: Peter Crouch
Spot on we are in danger of doing a Stoke/WBA,an ageing squad which will require a major overhaul in the summer, this in itself carries risks as these new signings will have to gel quickly and hit the ground running,if we survive this time it's doubtful the promoted teams, whoever they maybe will be as useless as Huddersfield or Fulham.boyyanno wrote:People like you don't get it at all. Midfield is the priority area for me,Defour,Brady and JBG are too fragile to rely on game in game out, which means we'll flog Cork,Westwood,Hendrick and McNeil till they drop.
Also we need an impact player up top,Vydra hasn't yet hit the heights we expected,Crouch won't be here, ditto Wells and Walters,Wood and Barnes is our best pairing but they can't be relied on for the whole season.
All the above is dependent on PL status being secured,in the event of relegation it's a whole different ball game.
